Help me choose a portable?

Hey Gang....total noob here. really been enjoying the last few days of reading pages and pages of this forum, but i think i'm more confused now than ever. here is what i am looking for:

a stealth, portable, convection vaporizer for loose leaf herbs that is good for a solo smoker who usually relies on a dugout/bat combo

this all started when i saw an article about the Atmos Raw. I was like "I totally need that!" and started to do some research. that's what bought me here. after checking the thread and finding out more about it, i decided it wasn't for me


some more research, and i found the Pax. I was like "I totally need that!" and was all ready to pull the trigger, when, somewhere around page 200 of that thread, someone brought up the fact that conduction heat cooks your herbs even when you aren't using it. that was a turn off, cause as i said, i'm a solo smoker. i'd take maybe 2-3 hits per "session".

next up was the Thermovape T1. I was like "I totally need that!" and was close to pulling the trigger until i took a look at that massive battery/charging set and thought there must be something better than this. just looked to big/bulky to be convenient

I looked into a Launch Box, but that does not seem so stealth and the removable battery thing isn't a huge selling point. i'd like all one piece that i can hit discreetly and move along, BUT i liked that it was compared to a "vaporizer one hitter"

i checked out the Cera, but users complain it gets too hot with loose leaf. the davinci aspire looks good too, but doesn't seem to be available yet

so, I'm stuck....where do i turn that i can find something that suits all of my needs? or do i just wait a few months and see if something comes out that suits my fancy?

It actually is very stealthy! I have used my LB's in many public places, including a packed movie theatre! Most recently when we went to go see "Man of Steel."

First, your concern about conduction wasting all your herb is overblown. Just don't pack it full. Second, any stealthy portable is most likely to have an enclosed heating chamber, meaning some conduction will take place.

One thing to keep in mind though, Vicki. Just because you can use your MFLB in a packed movie theater doesn't necessarily mean that no one smells it. It may be that some people can smell it, but that it's smell is on the light side and that no one really seems to mind it.

I guess what it really all boils down to is, as long as you can, it's all good.

I heard that the MFLB produces whispy clouds but they must be even whispier than I thought if you can use it in a packed movie theater without anyone noticing. This is all more evidence to go with a Solo if you want a good heavy-hitting, reliable portable. You won't be able to hit a Solo in a packed movie theater without people noticing but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The clouds are huge and tasty.

I take very small hits, and hold them in for a long time. When I exhale, there is no vapor or smell. My husband sits right next to me, and cannot smell anything. If he can't smell anything, it's highly unlikely that anyone else can. He doesn't toke, so he is very sensitive to that smell too.

Back to the OP's original question (), a relatively inexpensive portable with the same form factor as a dugout (my former tool of choice) is the Firewood. It does involve a bit of a learning curve because you are pressing a button to control the heating, but that makes it absolutely perfect for hitting and quitting. I used to have a Pax and that was one issue I had with it...if I set it down and forgot about it, or needed to delay my next hit, I was basically degrading the quality of my session. With the Firewood, I can take a quick hit, take 5 minutes off to do something else, then heat it up for another hit.

If you wanted something more automatic and less stealthy, I personally think the Arizer Solo is the best overall portable, beyond the lack of pocketability. Or better yet, get both! You can buy a Solo and an unfinished Firewood for about the same price as a Pax or Ascent.

Did I mention how pretty the Firewood is?

I don't think you quite understand the LB. First, you can get thick clouds from one if you know what you're doing, but that would be silly. Second, you don't need big clouds to get effects, and the LB is designed around that principle.

Clouds are harsh and wasteful. Like Vicki, I've used my LB to wonderful effect in many public environments without detection, simply because I know how to use it. Any device that needs clouds to work is obviously not stealthy, but the LB is meant to allow complete discretion and does that extremely well.

If you haven't already, take a look at the FlashVape. It doesn't cook the herb between hits but yet can provide pretty decent vapor with the proper technique.

I love my mflb. You could get 4 launch boxes for the price of the pax but you wouldn't need to cause they've got a lifetime warranty no matter where you buy it.

It's perfect for what you are describing... you just push the battery in, draw, let the battery out and it shuts off. Perfect for quick one man sessions.

Here's my little kit. I bought a little camera case for everything.

Oh and I dab ... a lot. People who say you can't get hits off a lb don't know how to hit a lb. I get ripped off a trench and can pull clouds if I want.

Sounds like you need the MFLB based on what you posted in the OP. But I have an alternative suggestion, what do you use at home? If you are doing it the old fashion way then I suggest you buy the solo and see if its to your liking for portable use, if it is then your good. If not it can be your at home unit, you can load it with as little as .020g (thin layer of flower) to .064g (full bowl barely packed). I use mine in public with a in a cup with a straight stem.

I will echo pak and Vicki, vapor is meant to be absorbed not blown in my opinion, while blowing clouds is fun and satisfying for the combuster in us, I find it unnecessary. Breathe it in deep and let it creep its way in.

While I am not for blatant use in public, I do find myself medicating in "public" frequently. When I walk the dog in the morning you bet your sweet buds I'm kissing the box. I've used the LB on campus as well, mind you I am not card carrying but I think what it boils down to is if you're going to be using peacefully and medicinally people tend to turn the other cheek, while being ignorant flashy and using the herb to simply see how fucked up you can get is where the trouble starts.
I have experience with the pax an the MFLB, as well as the first thermovape line, I still prefer my MFLB. I can't honestly say I was impressed with the pax, it seemed like a streamlined MFLB that required more frequent maintence. Thermovapes first line was nice once you got the method down and the appearance is certainly stealthier, however the LB is just simple and does the task at hand.

It will go forever on a single load if you keep it on low, and there is hardly any vapor other than what gets absorbed into your lungs when used this way. I wouldn't advise it for someone that comes from a combustion background that wants big hits (why I passed mine on), but for stealth flowers there's absolutely nothing better.

And if you don't want to finish your bowl just depress the mouthpiece and turn the oven off, or if left unattended and motionless it will turn off by itself. It's a pretty smart cookie!

Yep. I was using the PAX quite a bit when I was taking some courses at the local College. No matter how hard I tried, I always managed to stink up the room after a break.

Edit: I've always been able to get decent hits off the MFLB...I eventually grew out of it, but it can be pretty powerful if you master it.

Personally I would just wrap it in a bounce sheet like any portable vape if I was 'noid about it, but with the Pax success has been reported with the mentos end cap mod.
