I know we drink gold in goldshlauger with no ill effects. And I know the melting point of gold is 1900+ degrees Fahrenheit. It could flake if you were really hard on it, but it doesn't seem likely.

Straight from @vapman, on page 122 of the vapman thread
...I could point out again, that vapman is unchanged on the market for 10 years already without any issues what so ever and that I did a lot of research about copper. Why the gold coating! Because it looks better and it doesn`t cost a fortune, that`s all. Again, I use copper and gold, because these are very safe materials for a vaporizer.

With a good torch lighter butane shouldn't be a problem, even with a vape like the vaporgenie where you inhale while you torch. That being said, with the vapman you apply heat away from your face. Only once it is heated do you bring it to your face to inhale.

I think it is a HUGE misconception that inhaling butane at a small rate is harmless.. Inhaling butane is something so new to us as a species that we have no idea what the effect is, and there have already been studies done showing butane use with animals and the effects on the brain.. I think vapes with butane will be something in 50 years (probably less) that we will look back and realize the damage we are doing.. It just doesn't seem natural to inhale that shit.

But anyway, I am definitely not getting a butane vape- that is just silly.. The vapman uses butane to heat up the gold plate so I know its not as direct.. I will definitely check out the lotus as my portable..

But i think i am going to go with the vapexhale evo for the price point. Anyone know if this is the most up to date vapexhale? http://www.vapexhale.com/collections/vaporizers/products/holiday-starter-kit

I agree with you that inhaling butane is not harmless, but when you ignite butane, it is no longer butane but rather CO2 and H2O (carbon dioxide and water) which is pretty darn benign, eh?

With Vapes like the lotus and vapman though, you don't inhale any butane, and like Lwien said, torch lighters combust the butane. Making it well, not-butane.

I understand your hesitation though, I thought the lotus was ridiculous until I finally got to try one.

I am biased towards the first vape i have owned and use. granted im still new to the whole vaping thing but from what it sounds like i would say look up the Heaven Vaporizer. Ceramic chamber Clean Air Path full digital display so you can set the temperature that you want. and it comes with a bubbler stock. there are other bubblers for it as well. its just food for thought. it is a portable but from what i have been told it hits like a desktop as well. Again i dont know for sure im still new here. It can also save you a few hundred dollars as well.

Any Aromed users out there? I am curious of that one but it doesn't look so portable.

If you're still considering the Aromed, I suppose I have a lot to say about it. Good and bad. Objective. I'll wait for you to respond, though (because I'll probably spend a long time composing the post).

On the portable front I would suggest taking a look at the Haze vaporizer. It produces very potent vapor and though the body may be plastic it has an air path that I believe is stainless steel.

The Davinci Ascent should also be worth mentioning as it has a ceramic chamber and glass airpath.

On the desktop front I would suggest the Underdog, EVO, and the Herbalizer. The Herbalizer by far produces the coolest vapor. However, the other two are quite nice also and I believe would fit within your very reasonable safety concerns.

I have only ever used two vaporizers; the ones I own (Aromed and Air). In fact, I still have never even seen another vaporizer in person. The Aromed was my first, which I decided to buy after considering mainly the Volcano and the EQ.

It might be kind of hard for me to give a good assessment of the Aromed right now because in the last week I finally figured out how to make this thing work; really work. (I have owned it and used it daily for about five months. Making it work so well took some creative modifications. I'll explain later.)

Negatives
  • This machine is marketed as a medical device, but it has a lot of characteristics that make it physically difficult for many medical users to use; particularly those who are weak, shaky, and/or uncoordinated.
  • Requires regular cleaning of the glassware, which is not good if you drop things and/or can't really carry things (like many medical users).
  • I don't even bother using it with the glassware attached to the back of the machine, as it's designed to function. It's too much trouble attaching and detaching the heat source that way; particularly for anyone with bad hands, which includes me. I'm clumsy enough already, but using it that way makes me even clumsier.
  • If I use it with the glassware on the back of the machine, the two things I need to see at the same time (herb holder and control panel) are nowhere near each other. Plus I feel like the whip is too short to use comfortably when the glassware is secured to the back.
  • Alternatively, I use it with the glassware to the side, which makes the glass vulnerable to tippage and breakage. Consequently, my herb holder is cracked, simply from being tipped over. (It did not fall; just tipped over.)
  • If you use it with the glass beside the machine (like I do), you have to be extremely careful not to tip it over, which is even more difficult with the whip always being in the way.
  • Replacement glassware is expensive.
  • Some people report their glassware becoming "fused" together. Although it can be very annoying to have to deal with the glass not coming apart easily, I'm beginning to think the people who report fusion simply do not understand the concept of friction. (They think you have to heat the glass or add chemicals to lubricate the connection, when most likely all you need is one piece of rubber--not cloth or anything else--to create friction between your hand and the piece of glass you want to remove from the other piece of glass.)
  • I don't really consider this a negative, but I think you mentioned wanting something portable. The Aromed is not even kinda portable.
  • Only comes with one screen. (How about just include five screens and charge an extra dollar?)
Positives
  • Pick your temperature; any temperature. (Having said that, mine stays at 456°F.)
  • Heat source is located above herbs, which keeps the herbs from being baked while the machine is on but not being used.
  • It's fun to watch this thing while operating it. It's a show.
  • Never seems to produce harsh vapor.
As you see, I'm having trouble coming up with a list of positives. That might not really mean anything, but it might mean everything. Here's why:

For a long time I've wanted/needed to create some kind of riser for the screen, to raise my herbs closer to the heat source. In the last week, I finally figured out how, using just flour and water. Consequently, all of a sudden, my Air doesn't get used very much. So add the following bullet points to the previous list of bullet points. But realize that these bullet points may be conditional.
  • I can now set my Aromed a hair from combustion.
  • I can now vape one tiny little ground if I want to. (I don't want to, but I can.) I used to have to use giant loads, just so I could get some herbs in my preferred temperature range; loads as large as 1 g.
  • Each session lasts me only a couple minutes now, instead of, say, half an hour.
  • Big clouds on the first hit.
  • I can now use clouds to help me judge whether my herbs are spent. It used to be just about impossible for me to know when my herbs were spent, but now that's easy.
If you're in the United States, VaporNation might be a good place to buy an Aromed. I believe they have a 21% FC discount. (I bought mine for 20% off, with a different code, before I knew there was an FC code.) So you should easily be able to get one of these for $350.

The Aromed could probably be essentially perfect for someone like me, with some minor functionality changes or options. For some reason, though, it seems there's no such thing as a late model. If you buy one today, it's going to be essentially identical to one you could've bought 10 years ago. (Unless I'm wrong.)

I've been thinking about buying an Underdog for quite a while, I suppose largely because I didn't feel like the Aromed worked for me. Well, now it clearly does. I'm still leaning toward buying an Underdog holiday vape, but I no longer think it's because I need one.

I think most of the posts over the last five or 10 pages of the Aromed thread are from me. Surely lots of those posts reveal that I was (or am) a beginner. Regardless, I've had a lot to say. Which I suspect may probably be very useful to you if you read it.

I have probably omitted some things I meant to say, but that's OK for now. This post is long enough. If you have any questions, I'll gladly share whatever useful information I can.

Of course, after putting all that time into writing my previous post, I see you already made your decision. D'OH!

The coughing from vaping is from the hot vapour irritating the throat and or lungs.

I don't think I buy that. If it's not hot in the mouth, then how is it hot in the lungs?

I haven't done any research, nor have I given this much thought, but I'm guessing anything you put in your lungs that's normally not supposed to be there might irritate them.

@Evan Carter, I have chronic asthma and weak respiratory passages that have plagued me my entire life but the evo has been perfect for my medicinal needs. As you can see in many of the videos circulating on the inter-web, it obviously has the capability to produce huge lung tickling clouds but it all depends on how hard the user inhales. I stopped by the insane vapexhale booth at the emerald cup over this past weekend and one of their reps (some jolly and super tall dread headed bloke) told me that their heater specifically adjusts up and down in proportion to inhalation velocity. In that sense, you can easily control how much vapor you take in (or how large and challenging the clouds will be) based on how hard you rip it. If you want to take small sips of non-irritating vapor it's quite simple with the evo and if one of your buddies is chasing ginormous clouds, all they need to do is rip it hard like a chuggler champion.

Welcome to the forum and best of luck choosing yerr daily driver ayy! :)

You made a great choice with the Evo and customer service is great too.

I have a ton of vapes in my lineup, and the Evo has stood the test of time for some years and is likely still my favorite. Good luck keeping your glass collection in check while you get addicted to buying accessories. Cheers.

Edit. Check the Evo thread for advice, and there is a slew of fun youtube videos. Treat yours EZB's easy, and soak in iso then brush to clean. Happing vaping.

Update!!

Cloud Evo is pretty solid! Definitely what I was looking for as far as desktop vapes. Big hits when I want, small hits when I want. And the water attachment is killer.. So thank you!

But now I am realizing I want a portable vape as well. My problem with the solo is how you have the attachable glass mouth piece that doesn't seem air tight ..

I want something sleek, and also ready on the go with no separate mouth piece - unless it's really easy to attach and keep with the vape.

The minivap is probably out f my budget now but what about the pax 2? It looks great but it doesn't seem like there's much of a mouth piece . I remember using the pax 1 and my lips getting all hot.. Also- what is the inside of the pax 2 that you are smoking? Stainless steel? Again, I want as healthy as possible with no plastic. Or anything weird to inhale .

What else? How about the ariZer air? Is that a little more portable than the solo?

Again, I'm looking for portable, sleek, but most importantly high quality/ health conscious vape. $200 range. No need for group sessions now that I have the Evo.. This is for my walk home from the office - personal use.

Glad your happy with your Evo. If no plastic is your prerogative then I'd look into the MFLB, Lotus, Vapman, and Daisy.

Like you I'm funny about plastic vapes. But saying that I settled for a Mighty (even though I already owned a MFLB) as it comes from a reputable company and seemed better for stealthy outdoor use than the above mentioned wooden vapes. I haven't tried a Pax or Pax2. I'm sure they are decent as many like using them, but to me it looks like style over substance.

I've had a different experience with some of the portables- the MFLB was way too harsh for me even with water. I never mastered the vapman and mine is now a charred mess.
I like the Arizer air but it's very similar to the solo so if you don't like that you probably won't like the air. If you don't mind butane and can find one the daisy or smaller lily is a good choice with water. The mildest I've found is a new one called the firewood. It's still a work in progress but as it is now is mild and simple to use. Ed is developing a wong so it can be used with water.
My favorite is the Haze.

The Air will be a perfect for what you seek it for. There are better portable vapes out there but for under $200 you can get an Air & some accessories & that is very hard to beat. For slightly more a Haze is a great option as mentioned. If it is for wandering around & kicking back on the couch & sippin away either Air or Haze would be a perfect compliment to the Evo.

So I didn't like the arizer solo, and I'm making sure the air will be different before I purchase.. My problem with solo was the glass tube that was detachable. It wasn't air tight and also I want something that flips up or built in, so I don't have two separate pieces (unless it packs away nice/easy).

Secondly, the solo would always get bits and pieces in my mouth from the ground up herb. Pieces would come through the little holes. I guess I needed a filter basket like the Evo has. Also there was a bit of scratchy ness from the vapor .

I will check out the haze as well, but let me know about the air and other possibilities. Thanks !! Can't wait to get out of the office and walk home with my new vape.

The Air and the Solo are pretty similar except for size and the user replaceable battery.

IMO the Air has a more scratchy feeling to the vapor than the Solo. The Air has less temperatures to use. That's one of the draw backs for me with the Air.

The stems/mouthpieces do seem to be slightly tighter in the Air. You need to use a screen in the stems if you don't want cannabis bits filtering through. Really an easy fix. Not to grind your product is also an easy fix.

Both units have the same draw feeling. I like a very small draw restriction. If a vaporizer feels like it has too airy of a draw I, I don't like that. I like both unit, they fit my needs

The older model Solo has a more tight draw. The Solo was upgraded about 2 years ago.

I also have the Haze, it's an awesome unit but I like the Air and the Solo.

The Haze has a great warranty.

The haze looks perfect actually.. And only $200 on some websites ..

Anyone know what the bowl for the haze is? Glass? Stainless?

Man what I love about the Evo is the glass on glass element. Thing is awesome!

The haze has 2 stainless steel chambers in which you can place convection/conduction screens or stainless steel cans which can hold dry herb or concentrates.

I've not ever used a solo or Air, but I've used Haze extensively and I feel that it's a great tool!

Stainless steel cans, containers, or strips, you can vape 3 ways. Ask @scottg402 to help you out.
