Have you been to a dispensary?

Were you happy with the buds etc? Were they as good as what you grew or bought the old fashioned way? how were the prices?

I'm in arizona, a medical weed state. I am down to the last of my home grown (legally grown but when the dispensaries came in range, i lost the right to grow) and decided to see what kind of quality the nearest dispensaries had. I spent a week figuring out where i wanted to check out first and what genetics i wanted.
it was so cool buying it legally after all these years. i never walked out of a place swinging a bag of reefer without a care in the world before. i didn't even shove it under the driver's seat for the ride home.

i bought one gram of 7 different genetics. it was a bit more expensive buying by the gram (from $12 to $15 per) but it gave me a good idea of what they consider low, mid and high quality. after vaping most of them (i have two more of their best to try during my wake and vakes), it's nice to know that my best buds would be rated as high quality by the dispensary. i was hoping that they had at least the quality i'm used to. they did.

there seems to be two kind of places. one that sells prepackaged pot and one that brings down a bottle, let's you smell it and pick out the buds. that was the kind i went to. i liked seeing it all in the container. it's good to be able to smell the buds first. i'm only concerned with the high but a decent smell is nice too.

i'm very happy about the quality at least from this first place. i'm off to a competitor in a week or 2 to see what's up with them. i've been around pot since i was 15, buying, selling and growing and legally buying it is mind blowing. i can open my door with a joint in my hand and say howdy officer, what's up?

i'm going to hunt down the best, one genetic at a time.

i've smoked a lot of hash but never tried wax and or shatter so i'm going to get a vape pen and grab some shatter next time. i'm a bud guy but i like a little hash once in awhile.

they had a nice selection of everything. pipes, vaping stuff, edibles, oils, cbd stuff and about 14 different genetics. although i hate the idea of spending around $300 plus for an ounce for the good stuff (they charge a lot more for buying smaller amounts), all in all i'm no longer concerned about having to buy pot from stores. i have always had a few genetics around and the number of different genetics out there makes me smile. i use less than an ounce a month of my stuff, i'm hoping to keep it in that area.

they have mid, top and fire grade.
i got mothers helper a mid grade, chemdawg, tahoe OG kush and lemon haze bubblegum all top grades and emerald triangle kush, girl scout cookies and tangerine power all "fire" grade. i also got an agent orange preroll which i tore apart and am currently vaping. it's mostly leafy but i didn't want to start on a new genetic after being high all day.

i'm a note taker. i try each genetic as my wake and bake and write down what i think of the high after about 20 minutes. i grade all reefer i consume from 1 to 10, and decide if i will buy it again based on the - would i grow it if i could get a clone of it? - standard. i don't trust the reviews i read too much as they are often from different states or grow facilities and the same clone grown by a great grower vs a so so grower is a very different high. i might be a bit OCDish.



i must be high. wtf am i vaping something that is mostly leaf when i have buds galore? duh! i'm back to buds.

I received my medical certificate in May 2014. One of the best things I ever did. Wish I would have had the nerve years ago. I had a lot of copies of tests, surgeries, bone scans, MRIs and doctor appts......to show I was a candidate for medical cannabis. I have nerve and joint pain due to years of arthritis.
It was easy enough to get, like 20 - 30 min and I had my cannabis certificate.

I still feel like a kid in a candy store when I go shopping for cannabis. I end up getting way more than I need. We have a thread dedicated to talking about that particular subject. I like to have various different strains at home. Currently I have Blueberry Trainwreck, Chocolate Chunck, Green Crack (aka Green Crush) I like that name better, Blackberry Kush and Gorilla Glue #4. Only a little bit of each.

I too like to get small amounts of a strain that I've never tried, then go home and see if I really like it. If I do I go back and buy a little more of the same batch if I can. A certain strain could be great one time but not so much another time. I think looking for a particular grower/farmer if you are able to have that info. I've found out grow techniques are really important and how the cannabis is taken care of during the curing phase.

The dispensaries that I go to have very high quality merchandise. I also go to a type of farmers market for cannabis with several vendors selling their stuff. They sell cannabis, oil/waxes, creams and edibles. It's been a learning experience for me to say the least. I am able to talk with the farmers and get up to date info regarding the new laws that will be affecting the medical patient here in WA.

I check online and here on FC regarding particular strains to try out. I refer to Leafly a lot.

I haven't been to a rec store yet because of the high prices at $14 - $18 a gram for top shelf. A gram is around $10 with 10% sales tax so $11 at the dispensaries.
At the farmers market some vendors sell their cannabis for $6 and $7 a gram. You have to make sure it's not dry.

We have several dispensaries in my area, almost over saturation but that will be changing next summer 2016. I don't know if I will continue to be able to get a med cert because of the changing laws here regarding medical. There are a lot of unknowns at this point. There will be way less dispensaries, many will be shut down. It wouldn't be worth the 10% savings to be put on a registry IMO. I would save maybe $250 a year. I will continue to buy medical grade cannabis and I think everybody will be able to shop at a dispensary.

I think the only reason I would get a med certificate as it stands now, if I decided to grow my own. We can have a whopping 6 plants. They don't allow home growing without a med certification. Oregon and Alaska allows home growing of cannabis and so does CO.

Since WA state is now legal the medical cannabis will be taxed at the high rec prices and if you have a certificate you will save the 10%. So in states where you have medical cannabis be careful if your state decides to legalize cannabis. They could raise the prices to help balance your state's budget. That could be a good thing as long as the tax isn't 47% like it's going to be here where I live. Greed can ruin a good thing.

I will hope for the best when this whole thing shakes out, a lot to be decided still. The tax is already set.
I've been very pleased at the wonderful selection of cannabis in my area.

The dispensaries in my area are pretty awful for the most part. There's a couple that will have a decent selection once in a while but as a whole they're terrible. I really want to start growing my own eventually as it's still legal here in CO.

There have been some dispensaries that didn't have a large selection . Some would have like eight different types of flowers, the place would look empty, I don't go back usually. I like having a large selection to choose from. I also like the bud tenders that work there to be friendly and helpful too.

It's nice to check out all the dispensaries say in a 15 mikes radius and see what ones have the primo products. That's what I did the first few months after I receive my med cert.

i never get a high tolerance because i switch genetics every day. variety is the spice of life!

that sucks that WA is going to up the cost to med users. i'm not up on things like that. we are voting to legalize in 2016 but i'm thinking it won't make it. not yet.

we had a 12 plant limit but the law says when you are within 25 miles of a dispensary that you can't grow anymore. you can get a lot of buds with 6 plants and a 1000 or 600 watt. i'll walk you though it.

there is a place in phoenix that says they have 40 genetics to choose from. it's a bit far but i'm very curious. a kid in a candy store for sure.

I was generally happy with Denver area dispensaries, but one dispensed improperly flushed bud which was nasty.

I have not shopped at an Oregon rec, but the bud my brother in law gets med has been mixed. Generally surprised and disapointed at what is considered "trimmed" in Oregon, frankly. Seems people are a little to "gentle" with the trimmers and one winds up paying per gram for fan and sugar leaves here.
