Have I been breathing in toxic glass dust for the last 6 months?

Hello all,

Ive been using the DaBuddha vape for a long time, and while cleaning it recently I dug my finger into the glass ceramic heater cover and found on my finger black dust particles, some of it being reflective (almost like glitter).

Here is the pic of the dust from swiping it on my finger: https://imgur.com/a/Fd3Lf

At first I wasnt concerned because I thought it was just burn up weed, but when I see the reflective glitter like particles, I became very worried.

Also note, this heater cover isnt the original, I bought it from a 3rd party vape store on the internet a while back after my last one broke. I actually dont know if normal glass can be stained like this, which makes me think that this isnt 100% pure glass. I mean, can glass be burnt enough to stain and possibly create microscopic glass shards? Do any of your glass heater covers look like this or have any black dust with reflective particles in it? Am I going to get cancer and die?

Well, your HC is all black (from condensed vapor?). What I'm trying to figure out is how that happened.

Have you ever tried cleaning it ? I am pretty sure that's burnt stuff from the blowback..
Not judging but IMO you should keep your gear cleaner.. I;ve owned DBV but i gave up on it due to many broken heater covers in the re-assembling process after cleaning.

Man on man that's dirty! It's not likely you were breathing that junk when you first got it, since all that garbage wasn't there. It honestly looks like burnt reclaim to me.
I'm just a stoner who used the dbv for a few years, so my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt.

I've seen staining just like that on cheap china sourced adapters for my EQ.
Compared with the ground glass joints that came in the box, they will stain and can't be cleaned fully (even long soaks in PBW).
Although I never discovered glass particles coming from it, I was always a bit dubious over the quality.
It was obviously becoming more porous, which is not a good sign.

I'd suggest sourcing a quality boro glass ground joint to be on the safer side. The official SSV version is just that.

I wouldn't worry too much though, it's nothing more concerning than say, a portable vape with ceramic in the air path that is gradually ground smooth.

At least here you can identify the problem, and replace the dodgy material. Short term exposure is only minimally risky, although totally undesirable.

Am I going to get cancer and die?
From glass dust particles alone,no.
You're not going to get cancer and die.

Glass is not crystallic silica ,that can cause silicosis ( a type of lung fibrosis ) .
Glass is a biologically inert material.
Nothing to worry .Still,I would disgard the boro piece(s) that show friction marks.

cheers.

Thanks everyone for the responses. There are a lot of experts on the Da Buddha. This heater cover looks third party, and not genuine 7th Floor product. That's OK!! Our genuine product is hand made and made to last. nothing wrong with what you're seeing here. It is built up oil residue, that over time has crystallized. Nothing to worry about health wise. We would suggest that you keep the glass very clean, this ensures that the flavor is there for every pull. Feel free to check our site for accessories.
Thanks again to everyone for using the Da Buddha. We pinch ourselves when we see how many get sold daily.
