You know, thinking about this, I think I'd be more worried if I was using a whip vape that had significant resistance during a draw...
Not even a whip will cause dry socket, IMO. I use a Solo with OEM stems and it doesn't get any more sucky than that:whip:. Love my Solo! I really think the original poster of this thread is much too taken with a misconception. Excessively strong swishing with a liquid will cause the forming blood clot to lift out of the socket, hence dry socket. But not vaping, drinking a milkshake, or sucking on a lolipop. Nope...not gonna happen.

That is good to know. Just researched this and seems about 5% of people suffer this after an extraction... Also that this is a condition you really want to avoid!!!!

yeah even if it's only 5% i personally would not do anything that increases my risk of causing it to happen.

Isn't all that the same a smoking which can potentially cause a dry socket?

I personally think that the extremely low sucking pressure that is involved when vaping is negligible, and therefore little cause for concern. One vaping technique I often employ simply because it makes it easier to breath while vaping is to keep an opening at teach corner of the mouth, thereby eliminating all sucking pressure inside the mouth. EZPZ! I also suggested earlier in this thread to drape a gauze over the extraction site while vaping. You have many options to use in order to preserve your desire to vape soon after the procedure. If after all you have been given to consider here has not alleviated your concerns, DON'T VAPE until healed! Now, that said and off my chest, it is always advisable, however, after an extraction to keep the mouth clean and the extraction site free from irritation, infection, and exposure to "dry socket" causation. That said, here is a web article that deals with the matter:
"How to Smoke, Drink Soda, and Eat Real Food Without Getting Dry Socket
Avoiding Dry Socket After a Tooth Extraction
Having a tooth extracted is not a pleasant experience for anyone, but just when you think you're done with the worst of it, your dentist may deliver even worse news: you're at risk for dry socket. Dry socket is the incredibly painful condition that occurs when the blood clot covering the hole where your tooth once was breaks loose. The result is exposed bone and excruciating pain that even the worst painkillers cannot numb. In an effort to prevent dry socket, your dentist will likely advise you to avoid smoking, caffeine, soda, sugary foods, and an assortment of other things for several days. But as anyone who's ever had a vice knows, quitting is easier said than done, and if you're already in pain from a tooth extraction, quitting can be ten times more miserable.
There's no guarantee of who will or won't get a dry socket, and people who follow all the rules can get the condition. Similarly, people who break all the rules can avoid it. But by taking a few precautions, you can dramatically lower your likelihood of getting dry socket and can still go about your normal routine. Here's what to do:

No Sucking or Pressure in the Mouth
The real problem with smoking after a tooth extraction isn't the smoke itself; it's the sucking. Even light pressure on your tooth in the days after extraction can lead to a painful extraction site, which is why your dentist tells you not to smoke. If you must smoke, take very light puffs on your cigarette rather than sucking hard on it. When you blow out the smoke, blow gently or blow it through your nose.

No Pressure on the Extraction Site Carbonated beverages, crunchy foods, and other items place pressure on the extraction site that can dislodge the blood clot. If you simply must drink a soda, smoke, or break another one of your dentist's rules, try packing the extraction site with gauze beforehand. This adds an extra layer of protection that makes it less likely that the infection site will be disturbed.

Delay as Long as You Can Your dentist may make you feel that if you don't wait the full 48 or 72 hours, you've failed completely, but your dentist is wrong. The most critical hours after a tooth extraction are the first few. If you can make it even only a few hours after your tooth extraction without smoking or drinking carbonated beverages, you'll dramatically decrease the likelihood of getting a dry socket. Avoid breaking the rules for as long as you can, even if it's just an hour or two.

Be Quiet No dentist is going to tell you not to talk, but talking places just as much pressure on the extraction site as smoking and carbonated beverages do. If you can avoid talking for a few hours, you'll help lessen the likelihood of a dry socket.

Things Your Dentist Can Do There are a few steps your dentist can take to help you avoid a dry socket no matter what else you do. Placing a foam substance in the wound can protect the wound from the elements. This foam is generally absorbed into your body in a few days and many dentists have started using it as an added protection against dry socket. Stitches can also help lessen the likelihood that something dislodges the blood clot and causes dry socket. It is also important to note that dentists who treat the extraction site with an antibiotic dressing report a lower incidence of dry sockets in their patients. Finally, some dentists will send you home with clove oil if you ask. This is the best emergency treatment available for dry socket and will ensure you have pain relief if you get a dry socket while your dentist is not available.

While no one should be encouraged to break their dentist's rules, sometimes life happens and we can't give up everything we do just because we had a tooth removed. With a little caution and awareness, you should be able to live your life normally without getting a dry socket.

Lol... No gas mask.. You don't want to risk going into a big coughing fit.. Take it easy, and get it done.. But be reasonable.

* I second the rinsing w/ salt water and gauze over the extraction site.. I usually fold it up and bite on it to keep pressure on it.

I'm completely clueless when it comes to edibles.

I didn't even know that this could happen when I had my wisdom teeth taken out, I just bagged it up with my extreme Q when I got home and everything was fine.

Okay I just got my wisdom tooth extracted yesterday and I've been using my Zephyr Ion without any problems. On a side note I was prescribed Vicodin for the pain. Is this stuff suppose to get you high? I took 4 of them (20mg) about 2 hours ago and I don't feel shit.

Since your original post 2 pages ago, several members have offered their advice to try and help you out with your concern. Not once did you acknowledge their reply, nor did you thank them for their time, experience, and concern. You simply just kept pushing for additional info. As a disturbing matter of fact, since you started posting in 2011, not once did you give thanks or acknowledge your responders for their time, etc. Beyond just being customary forum etiquette, a brief acknowledgment and/or thank you would be both courteous and appropriate. Further, you seem unaware that FC is not a forum intended for advice concerning Vicodin or other pain medications. That you decided to take as much Vicodin in such a short period of time, certainly not in keeping with your dentist's prescription, it comes as no surprise that any advice that we have given would also be completely ignored. Your behavior I feel speaks of an unearned sense of entitlement, adds little to no value to the forum collective, and simply has no place here. Yer welcome :2c::peace:

Try NOT taking them for the next 6 hrs and see how much they were 'actually' working ? :uhoh::nod:

I have not taken any pain medication today and I feel great! Looks like the Vicodin weren't doing anything.

You've got to be fucking kidding me right? Did you get your feelings hurt because I didn't acknowledge your posts? Do you honestly think that I'm obligated to personally thank every poster that responded to my original question? Perhaps you would like a personal Thank You letter wrapped in a hallmark gift card? I can't believe that you fail to realize that's what the fucking "like" button is for.

When did I ask for advice concerning Vicodin? I simply asked if it gets your high or not in which a simple yes or no answer would do. And if you really want to play that card a quick glance at your posting history shows that half the shit you post has nothing to do with vaporizing or cannabis.

I rest my case.:horse::goon::bang:. And BTW: all your 'Likes' over the last 2 pages were just done now, after my last post, and I can prove it. See "Recent Activity" in the Profile Page. Doing a little CYA, huh? I'm done with you.

This is horrible horrible advice. Sucking on a whip or lollipop will most certainly increase your chances of getting a dry socket. Just because it didn't happen to you doesn't mean it won't happen to someone else. What most people misunderstand is that it's not the smoke that causes the dry socket but rather the act of "sucking" itself that causes it. When you suck it creates a slight vacuum in your mouth that can potentially dislodge the blood clot. There's a reason why your dentist tells your not to smoke, spit or drink through a straw after extraction.

What the OP needs to do is find a way to smoke/vape without sucking and you will be alright. In this case a bag vaporizer will be a godsend. A forced-air vaporizer will work as well. Just blast the fan and breathe the vapor in through your mouth or even your nose!

The first 48 hours is really the critical point. After that you're pretty much in the safe zone. At this point even if your blood clot dislodges you should already have a layer of new tissue underneath that protects the nerve and jawbone from exposure (exposed nerve/jawbone is what causes the pain). I'd still be careful at this point though.

Everyone has a chance of getting a dry socket after an extraction, even if he/she follows all the directions. The act of sucking will most certainly increase your chances of getting a dry socket.

Okay guys do you think a gas mask will completely eliminate the risk of dry socket?

Vicodin is not really something you get high off of. You'd have to take a lot just to get a slight buzz. It's very dangerous and not worth it imo.

He's not misrepresenting you. That's just the message you see when you have someone on ignore.
