Glass storage?

pigfoot

Dabs are vapor too!
Found this small storage box, and made a foam insert for it, to hold my Dozo. I like keeping it out of harm's way. Just cut some foam sheet with a sharp blade, and glued it with contact cement. It has some storage spaces for extra stuff.

IDK if I'm alone, but I tend to nerd out on shit.

My latest kick is getting legit protection for all my Vape equipment and meds.

As such I have acquired a couple of Pelican cases for my glass with a 3rd that will be dedicated to meds and thus I wanted to share as well as to see if anyone else out there is as geeky as I am about this stuff.

Anyway the foam is a work in progress but I've got the main pieces situated, as you can see. I'm now waiting on a few more items so I can lay out and place my accessories (hence all the extra open space).

LMK what you think and please post up pics of your glass cases/bags!

I was actually just considering buying a case for my EFS. I was considering a cheaper non water proof case since I figure it's not really a problem if a water piece gets a little wet. My only hesitation at the moment is the foam. Did you cut it yourself or do you custom order the size of the foam cuts when you order/buy the cases? Does anyone know if I went to say a gun shop for a case if its typical that they'll custom cut the foam as well? From a quick internet search it looks like setting up a hot wire gives the cleanest cut, but i'm curious as to how you did it those cuts look super clean.

The Pelican cases have "pick N pluck" foam. Basically it's perforated so you can pull out small squares of it in order to create your own custom "pockets". I actually did all of the foam plucking on these two cases using my fingers over maybe half an hour.

I did a bit of cutting but only to make the pieces shorter (to have the "floor" up higher in places for support). If you notice it's all right angles where the edges are.

As for it being it water tight... NBD. It's the air tight I'm interested in.

Haven't been able to commit to Pelicans and pick n pluck because 1) I never seem to hang onto glass and vapes too long, and 2) price.

Pistol cases are a decent alternative - hard plastic with convoluted foam to sandwich your gear in place. Plano and MTM are a couple brands you can find for cheap on Amazon in various sizes (I like MTM a little more, but Amazon prices aren't as good on those right now). Only caveat is that these wont work with larger pieces - max height is ~15" and base diameter ~5". May not work great for your primary pieces, but definitely worth checking out for stems, gongs, adapters, etc.

Small and larger examples for $7 and $15 shipped, respectively.

I know what you mean but I'm a big fan of "buy quality once". Ive gone through my share of shitty bags/cases and wanted a "final solution". Besides, you can always get new pick and pluck foam inserts for a bit over 10 bucks.

Hell, I've reused the same Pelican 1200 case 3 different times in that manner. I mean shit, even if I never vape again I could still use these cases for any number of things.

Not saying there arent cheaper alternatives out there that are just as effective though.

Seahorse cases USED to be one such thing, but their current pricing structure means you are barely paying under Pelican prices if you want foam inserts (which still isnt as nice as the pick n pluck).

Really they only become worth the price savings if you just get a bare shell without the foam... but that defeats the purpose for me.

I do suppose however, that you get slightly larger volume for slightly less money with the Seahorse cases over Pelicans, foam included.

All that said, 15 bucks for a Plano is a steal compared to a similar sized Pelican which is 2x as much... and it should work fine if all you need is something to throw your glass in while you go to your buddy's place.

@Caligula love this thread! When I get home from work I will take pictures of all my cases. I must have 8 big and 5 smaller so we are equally nerdy lol

@snackmaster I use Plano gun cases because they are inexpensive, available locally, and offer great protection. It is not a pelican case but a great runner up. My local Walmart had the double pistol case on clearance for $9 normally about $16. I bought them out lol.

When it comes to making a cavity for your piece I have my own method. I usually trace it with a sharpie on top of the foam and then cut out the exact shape with an electric turkey knife. These work great for cutting foam!

Just to be clear Plano cases offer pick and pluck but that has never been my thing. I like how there is no open space or wiggle room when I custom cut. Just an amazing snug fit

One of my Pelicans is over 15 years old, got it in high school:)
They are indestructible! I find their high costs are offset by the long life of their cases.

There are some clone cases out there though for those looking to save a few $$.
I will post a link or two up when I get back in town.

I'm not an expert but I have a strong opinion
So while storing my D020W in my cabinet I noticed it is pretty similar in shape to my SSV travel bag.

Tried it out, and it fits pretty well. Probably gonna order a new one just for this bub. Not as much protection as a pelican but much cheaper. Also going to get one of the plano pistol cases for other goodies.

This post was moved here from a thread of it's own.... since several replies have happened in this thread since the time this was posted, I thought I would bring it down here to the bottom of the page so it would be noticed. :)

I'm not sure what you did, but I don't see any links/pictures. What image hosting site are you using? I personally use imgur.com, then click upload image(the button in the posting tool bar between the smiley face and film reel), go back to imgur click direct link copy, and paste the direct link into image pop up where it prompts you to enter the image url. Click insert then preview the post to make sure my image appears.

I'm sure you just mixed up a step somewhere i've seen you post pictures before. Perhaps also try removing the [/url] tags from your post?

Edit: Glad you got them working. On another note...Holy man sweet pieces and cases!

ok I got all my pictures fixed. Hope you guys like em. The cases that are dedicated to specific pieces are custom cut to fit perfect. This includes both Efs tubes, Itza, Jerome Baker, and case with Vince P dry.

Electric turkey knife is like a light-saber through foam!

I also have a 2011BC inverted showerhead to showerhead with ash catch. It goes in a toolbox I got from a resale store and filled with high density foam I got on sale a Jo Ann Fabrics. I will post it later. I have posted enough for today lol

Yeah I've got a case of GAS accompanied by the newly coined condition of CAS. Lol Caliguna

The only thing I don't have is VAS because my nano takes such good care of me.

But..... The v2 just came out and I have to admit that it has been calling me

@Snappo there is actually another lair of glass in the case in the bottom picture but I didn't feel like pulling it out. And like I said, this is just stuff in cases. I have more glass that I don't even know where to store or that don't fit in these awesome Plano cases
