Ghost MV 1 vs Splinter/Splinter Z

Hey everyone.

So ive narrowed my choices for a new vape to the Ghost MV1 or some kind of Splinter.

Im pretty familiar with the Ghost MV1 correct me if im wrong. On Demand, heats and cools quikcly. Need long draws and control over speed inhaling to get vapor production, but great flavor and cool vapor. Crucibles can be annoying to load

I have no clue about the Splinters. I know theyre convection also and ondemand. Im confused with the models on one site i saw a Splinter with no version, A Splinter v1 and a Splinter v2 and a splinter Z.

the only things ive gathered about the splinter besides they have different models with the same descriptions is that the Z has a bigger heater. Is that worth the extra money? I also read that you have to stir the load in between hits otherwise youll get 2 dark spots. If you dont stir does that effect flavor any other info would be great

I haven't used a Ghost. I'm just gonna be super obvious and say get a Splinter because a Ghost is $300 while the V1 plus a mod and batteries is around half that.

If it's important to you to avoid stirring you can adjust the settings on even a cheap TC mod to heat more evenly. Down the road if you want to upgrade to a dna or dna-c mod you can use the custom ecigprofiles for the Splinter or the Z and get more consistent abv.

If the crucibles and blinking light interface make for a more self-contained unit then the Ghost might be more practical for vaping out. Yikes though: you could spend $150 on just an extra battery, fast charger, and crucible dispenser. That's about the same as the total cost of a Splinter v1 setup. The mv1 itself is an extra $295.

I'd go for a Chinese Splinter Z or a blackwood V2 like I said in your other thread plus one of these:

For the past week or so I've had my Z on a $40 Wismec rx gen3 dual running myevic firmware and it's been amazing. The XL8R cooling stem is worth the high price too.

Both are great at low temps, ghost is better at first hit high temp flavor in my opinion.

@Mynameismud the heater in the Splinters is a mesh ribbon of Stainless. I suspect when drawing air thorough the ribbon based on it’s orientation this creates channels of hot air through the bowl, these channels having more volume of hot air, thus leading to hot spots in the bowl. One Splinter may hot spot more than another or not at all depending on how the ribbon heater is situated. That said, with my Z i do get hot spots, but deal with this by rotating the stem 1/4 turn after every hit. By the time I’ve finished rotating the stem 360 degrees the bowl is pretty spent, but being the meiser I am I stir it once and take a couple more burnt popcorn hits before dumping the bowl. One other point, the bowl is pretty small, RBT even recommends not stacking herbs in your bowl any deeper than the bowl is wide. Following his advice and rotating the stem really negates the need to stir.

The Splinter with an XL8R cooling stem provides wonderful flavor and great cooling. In fact these stems absorb so much heat from the vapor that they start to get warm, pretty cool.

I own and use both. My favorite splinter stem is the tall green stem but all tall non cooling stems have great low temp flavor. I’m not a big flavor chaser, kind of the opposite and tend to vape at mid/high temps. 380°-400°f I would guess is my preferred range.

I’d be interested to get your take with the XL8R cooling stem, as I have owned the FF2 (a vape know for great flavor) I can say I no longer miss that vape now that I have my Z, which puts the FF2 to shame with it’s power

I personally think the xl8r(I have one) reduces flavor(fine with me). Xl8r works better with unregulated vapes like the Milaana and maybe the splinter/(z) in wattage mode. Don’t use mine much with the splinter and a TC mod.

Well I took the Plunge and bought a V2 Splinter. Hope i made a good decision i guess well find out soon.

I didn't use the regular stems with my Milaana 2 nor my Z for long enough to weigh in, while I like high temperature extraction, I also don't care for harsh.. very few vapes do that well

Ease of cleaning must go to the Splinter Z
Greater Capacity goes to the MV-1
Greater Longevity? In what regard? No moving parts on the Splinter and the coil should last a very long time provided you do not send too much current to it. Box mods are easily replaced.
As I do not own both, I may only guess on cloud production. That said I have had bigger clouds with the Splinter Z than any other portable vape I own or have used.

BTW, I took advantage of the Champs Splinter sale and picked up another Splinter Z and King Cooling stem kit. So I now own the Custom Z and a V1 Z

What was the Champs deal? Did you have to be there? I want a reason to get a bargain ZV1 or a V2!

@Mynameismud I don't own a V2 yet but all three of my Splinters are amazing performers. What mod are you pairing it with?

@TiSteamo are you still deciding between the Splinter and the Ghost? I don't own an MV1 and it might have been me that initially told you to ask Summer. Don't give box mod intimidation any weight if 510 vapes are new to you. They're nothing to worry about and having different ways to use one device is a feature most folks on FC would probably appreciate once they were introduced to it.

Very interesting. I would have thought that the cooling provided by the xl8r stems would make it more difficult to sense the heat in an unregulated vape?

Not sure where to place the comparison, but once the mod is setup correctly (different settings for each) they are very comparable.

The Splinter Z must be cool, the only thing that does not convince me is the price. 180 is too much if we consider that it is an attachment and not a complete vaporizer. If we then add another 40 of the cooling mouthpiece, it almost reaches the price of the Ghost.
