Thanks, I did mean WaW. Never played Wow, or anything similar. But i do remember kids failing out of school in the dorms back in 2002 when they would crack it to Everquest. Wasn't there a few deaths cause over these games? Like don't you dare touch my Level 18 Elf now that I have the Sword of Kings.... I'll kill you for that.
There have been MMORPG related deaths in the past, yes. One particularly sad incident was when the mother of a 3-year old forgot that she had left her daughter in the car. She was inside playing EverQuest for over two hours before she "realized" she forgot about her kid, but it was too late.
A guy named Shawn Woolley killed himself back in 2001 while playing EQ. His mother found him at his desk with a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head, and EQ running on his computer on Thanksgiving day. He was 21 years old.
There was a report of a man who killed his son for disturbing him during a "raid" while playing EQ, but I'm not sure how valid that story is.
A 28-year old man in South Korea died in an Internet Cafe after playing for 50+ hours of StarCraft.
In June of 2005 a Chinese gamer was sentenced to life in prison after stabbing a fellow gamer to death. Apparently the victim had borrowed a sword, and then sold it.
Crazy stuff, huh? I mean, doesn't that right there put the number of Video Game related deaths above the number of Marijuana related deaths? And those incidents listed above are just the ones I remember. I'm sure there are a lot more.
