Gender choices on FC. Something we can do to be more progressive?

I noticed how under the profile, one can select gender. The options are too limited in my view. There's male and female, fine for John and Jane Doe. But the only other option is (unspecified). This means an FC user who identified other than M/F, and wants the community to know, can't do that. I realize there are too many terms that change every few years to keep up with a list. But could we get an old-fashioned "Other" category at least? Thanks.

I used to say the same thing. But I think people who identify as heterosexual, being the majority, have more of a luxury to say it doesn't matter. When in the sexual orientation minority, it's a little more gray area, and the need to identify openly can be much more important than straight folks realize.

What is wrong with unspecified? It can mean male/female and anything in between. Or it can mean "fuck you none of your business".

I think unspecified covers just about all options, unless you want them to list every variety of sex a human can call themselves, which seems to be growing by the day for some reason.

It might solve a lot of concerns, and people can put that info in their signature if they wish to display it.

I'd rather have it the way it is, than have everyone have to see S/W/M at the bottom of all my posts.

I think Unspecified can useful, for those that don't want to advertise it.

Should we change it so it would benefit the identity of one person? I think it's useless. If you feel the need to express your gender for the world to know, introduce yourself on here. Though it isn't neccessary to introduce yourself, I don't think much people here care about profile information so long as the information to all things cannabis-related is here for us to view as needed. We're already having identity crisis all over the world and the Internet isn't secure as we think. IMO whether I'm male or female or either, I'd rather tell you in person not online. Just pointless to point out something that should be personal. If these genders whichever feels 'unspecified' is wrong, it's to benefit those of us who want to keep that private. It is probably also termed like that by default and not by the decision of the FC staff. Might as well put Single, Married, and Divorced/Widow into the mix.

Good idea. I agree that "other" would make sense. Unfortunately the ability to do this is not yet in the software, but the suggestion has been made in the xenforo forums, so hopefully it is implemented.

Agreed. If anyone was "converted" to a diff sexual orientation by the use of MMJ, they can create a thread and announce/discuss.

Especially if related to a particular Strain or Strain Family. DDave would then add these strains to his "Avoid at all costs" list!

Not sure I see value in doing this. I think @Deja Vu stated it best once by saying any posting that identifies a difference can also cause conflict between two individuals or groups of different beliefs.

Im offended there isn’t a hermaphrodite option, because I have been called a prick & a cunt on many occasions.
Often both in the same sentence.
And I have lost count of the amount of times Ive been told to 'go fuck myself.'


So to recap-
We need an option for those who have the right bits & pieces & like them. (check)


An option for those who have one set of bits & pieces. But identify with the other available set of bits & pieces & wished they had that set instead. Sometimes people will save up for a rebuild to have the correct set of bits & pieces installed.


Then there is stu’s favourite group, those who cross dress in the accessories that are typically found in the opposite set of the 2 sets of bits and pieces because they havnt seen stu thru the hole in the toilet door enough times to pay for the rebuild yet.


Personally, cross dressing is weird, I never saw the appeal in getting dressed up when you are angry.

Some peeps don’t want to mix and match with the other set of bits & pieces.
They want an option for same bits unions and feel there needs to be a section in the manual.


Then there are those who deny their bits & pieces all together & endeavour to live off grid AKA- bitless wonders.
Think blue ‘non gender orientated’ group.

Then of course the original point I made, The Almighty Hemaphrodity button.

Anyhoo, I really think this is a plot for @Stu to find some new cross dressing girlfriends who haven’t had the rebuild yet.

I fail to see how advertising which set of bits you have, don’t have, are saving up for, wished you had or deny you have, brings anything to FC?
However, I only say this because whichever set of bits you wish to interact with in the privacy of your own home is your business.

But that’s just me, Im lucky I have both complete sets. (including the obesity induced man titties)
Which is why I don’t leave the house much.

Quick recap:

Gender identity refers to how one identifies, expresses and describes themselves with regard to gender. There are as many possible gender expressions as their are people really. When you ask someone for their gender, you ask for their gender identity in fact.

Transgender: This refers to a state where an individual identifies with the gender norms of the opposite sex, rather than their own. They may then choose to have surgery and dress accordingly to express this.

Sexuality/Sexual preference: Who you like to have sex with. You might be heterosexual/pansexual/homosexual/bisexual/asexual or whatever else your proclivities lead you to. I would love to hear Dorkus' self description in this regard lol

@CG420, no worries... was simultaneously inserting a really good "message" I saw in another's posting elsewhere, regarding the topic of classifying one's self as being "something" and how that can initially bring up walls with others. Just inserting a different perspective of looking at the topic.... and including a dash of humor - as is my style...

If you have the chromosomes of a man you're a man and vice versa. One can't just be something they are not. It's false and actually mentally ill. Now if it's a hermaphrodite which are very very very rare then they can have a choice. Otherwise you are what you are. Those are facts not opinion. I understand your point. But to suggest that someone who identifies as transgender, etc. is only a matter for dating sites isn't very progressive. That's part of the problem IMO--that gender identity is turned into an issue of just sexuality. If a person is trans, it's not just about what they do in the bedroom. That's a kind of pigeonholing that heterosexual people don't have to deal with, which was why the OP came about. The question is, can someone be allowed to identify outside of binary sexual preference without it being only a SEX thing?
