I would also be very interested to know this.
Just to throw my voice into the discussion: I have been referred to, but have yet to receive an initial appointment with a gastroenterologist, since my regular practitioner and I were unable to determine the cause of my chronic nausea through the typical gamut of laboratory (rat) tests.
What interests me is that I have impaired fasting glucose, which means that my blood sugar is very high (diabetic levels) when I haven't eaten for 12 hours. The thing that is strange, is that apparently my overall blood sugar profile appears normal, and while I don't eat very regular meals, and haven't for years, I certainly do not eat poorly, and am not overweight, or a sugar addict. It remains a bit of a mystery to everyone concerned: even the nurse at my doctor's office who deals specifically with diabetic patients was very confused by my blood test results. My fasting blood sugar is as high as a diabetic person, but if I check it at any point during the day it is "normal".
I hope that there is no correlation, but now I'm wondering if this could be the answer to my little conundrum as well...
Postscript: I am looking into this. So far, I have found
this, which seems like it may be relevant.
