Fox News gets owned...........

This has got to be the worst interview that I have ever seen by a major news broadcaster. After the interviewer asks the stupidest questions that I have ever heard asked, the interviewee proceeds to just bury her in her own stupidity............kinda fun to watch actually.

That was just painful! I felt bad for her...

Why? She clearly had an agenda and completely ignored the fact that he didn't, despite her attempts to get him to say that he did.

The original link I saw to this had the title, "Is this the most embarrassing Fox News interview ever?" or something quite similar, which fails to recognize that Fox News is completely incapable of embarrassment. I'd bet that she felt the interview was a failure too, but only because she never got him to admit that he was a Muslim attacking Christ.

Right. She accused him of having an agenda when it was she who had the agenda.

Why is it that so often, the thing that people accuse others of being or doing is the exact same thing that they themselves are or are doing? I see this wayyyyy too often.

I was being sarcastic..... No sympathy from me I just felt embarrassed for her. Pretty standard Fox news fare...

I thought that was fun . If Fox news ever has a well spoken academic that's not part of their fold they never usually get to talk without being interrupted . This is a great example of why they never really let both sides have their say .

Good point. I was a bit surprised that the producers gave him as much time to talk as they did considering how their interviewer was slowly getting skewered every time she asked a question. I can imagine that there was a lot of this going on in the control room >>:doh::doh::doh::doh:, or..............they are sooooo fucking dense that they actually thought they did a great job in "exposing" this Mu......Mu......Mu.....Muslim for what he REALLY is.

Great job, Fox. His book shot up to number one shortly after that interview. Can't get, or even pay for that kind of exposure.

Aslan said he saw a review of his book on Fox news website so he knew what was coming and he certainly was prepared.
Lauren Green is not known to be an aggressive interviewer or one to stand-up to management. Looks like she was just doing what Roger Ailes wanted her to do.

I felt much worse for him, constantly having to repeat the same thing and therefor not much time left to actually talk about what he writes/thinks. I'm wondering what he was expecting the interview to be like when he was invited.

edit: just read that fox blogpost... how can people be so ignorant yet so loud/bigmouted? if I was as ignorant as that on a subject and |I notice I'm ignoirant wich I didn't know, I try to shut up so the other forgets my moment of ignorabce. not keep reminding people of it with more of the same iognorance.

I am sure he had a pretty good idea what he was getting into (this was fox news after all) and doubt he minds all the extra publicity for his book. :)

Duality of man or some shit like that. iunno. Seems to me the ignorant ones are usually the loudest in general, Fox is a just a great concentration of those kinds of people. A lot of people seem to think of them as a news provider, but really it's just all drama. Even their anchors like Glenn Beck claim they are just "portraying" characters.

Either way I'm glad this has happened, because it's coming out as a net positive for me, who's learned about Reza Aslan and can now read his fascinating works. It's coming out as a net positive for Reza, who's shot up to the Best Sellers list on Amazon. And it's come out for as big negative for Fox, who now have some more egg on their face.

Reading his Reddit AMA it seems to me like he was right ready to be attacked like that. He thought he was going to be able to power through it and get to talking about the book but was knew it was going to be rough sailing from the start. I wish I could be as calm in the face of ignorance as he is, he's an example of the kind of person I'd like to grow to become.

As scary as it is, it's nothing compared to the fact that there's an even larger viewer base for news channels like MSNBC, CNN or ABC, which all are becoming drama's in and of themselves. This is leading to an exceptionally poorly informed general public, which I think was really the end goal to begin with. Uninformed, easily scared people are the best political fodder.

Amen! It's not hard to find examples of Fox looking vapid, ignorant, or insidious, and I was much more surprised by finding a great example of someone "going into the lion's den" and handling themselves so well.

When you're Fox and you're in control of the framing and general direction of a television segment, I don't think it's hard to make a guest speaker look however you want, at the very least in the eyes of that majority in your market share that lwien mentioned.

Aslan stands out to me for standing his ground so well and managing to avoid Fox's baiting. Whether that's enough to get through to some of that core Fox viewership, I don't know.

Here is another great example of someone taking it right to Fox and shoving their face in it. You can tell that right from the beginning O'Reilly thought that Marilyn Manson was just going to be another dumb rocker that he could make a fool of on live television.

The look on his face when realizes that interview is not going to go the way he planned... priceless...

While I agree with you that MSNBC is just as nuts in spouting their dogma as Fox is (flip side of the same coin), I think that CNN and ABC, while still leaning left, are quite a bit more to center than either Fox or MSNBC.

And this is why I watch and read more than just one news source. For me, I gotta see all the different perspectives.

But yeah, I agree that news has become a business.

But that's the thing. It's not about political affiliation, or where you are on the political spectrum. It's about good journalism and bad journalism. I've been flabbergasted by just how bad CNN and ABC have been doing lately. Even CBC, the one news source I still respected is slipping down the drain.

I get all of my news from the internet now. Not from just any site mind you, but from good sources which provide facts and both sides of the argument. You simply cannot get that on TV anymore.

Yup, and that's why I think it's imperative that if one wants to be truly informed, they need to get their news from multiple sources. I would classify myself as a Liberal Democrat, and yet, I give equal time to Fox as I would to anyone else simply because I want to see the view of those that have a totally different perspective than I have.

Regarding "good journalism", what most of Fox viewers don't understand is that 90% of what is aired on Fox is not a news program, but an opinion program. The anchors on these programs are not journalists, but are "analysts". Fox even admits to this, but what they don't say, is that all of their "opinion" programming is done in prime time, and the little journalism that they do broadcast, happens in the middle of the day when most people are working.

It's hard to find unbiased journalism these days. Centi, please post up a link to those sites that you feel are good, unbiased sources. I'd like to take a look.

Most of the good news I come to read comes from a consensus of opinion of various users. I find reddit, when used well is one of the most valuable sources of information available in general. There is a great deal of misinformation but there is also a great deal of good information and the way the upvote/downvote system works the good stuff usually rises to the top.

ycombinator news (known as "hacker news") is another one of my favorites, for similar reasons but it focuses on cybersecurity, general tech news and tech law. Since most news outlets can't tell coaxial from twisted pair, it's pretty much my go to spot any time something big has happen on the internet to find out the particulars. It's a big part of my life so I need to keep on top of things. The Verge is also a wonderful tech-centric new site.

NPR is probably the best radio available right now, CBC is decent with shows like Cross Country Checkup or Q but their correspondence programs and general news coverage is abysmal. You still have to use your head listening to NPR, they are just the least bad out of the bunch.

I've also been suprised by the quality of the journalism in Rolling Stone recently. I hope they keep it up.
