I have tried using kanna both on its own and with some weed. On it's own, I felt that the effects were very mild. It made me more talkative and I found that there was also a slight anti-anxiety effect. I didn't feel any pronounced effects of euphoria, nothing really notable in that respect. It may have been the batch that I got though. It was not of very high quality.
The packaging said that it was "medicinal" and akin to "medical SSRI's", with a warning that said to be sure to "Do your research." It sounded impressive enough, but when I inspected it I found many woody stems and some small pebbles in the packaged leaves.
The amount of stems in the mix was not really a big deal to me as I don't smoke, but I figure that it would be for smokers. I think that mesembrine, the active alkaloid thought to be the psychoactive responsible, is found in most of its tissues so vaping it shouldn't be an issue. The fact that it had little pebbles in it, however, bothered me as I cook with my ABV. If their quality standards are low, I don't know what other things I might be inhaling or ingesting (I don't even think there is much research on kanna). I do know that if the kanna is not properly "fermented" (to destroy its oxalates), it can cause kidney stones and kidney damage. The psychoactive alkaloids may improve long term memory (the only thing I have noticed so far is an increased ability to concentrate).
The plant itself produced a calming vapor. It was not harsh, nor was the vapor distasteful. It was... somewhat woody with a dull sweet aroma. I found that it paired nicely with weed, although I find weed on its own much more tasteful.
It seemed that the highs were much more cerebral and a little different (I don't know how to exactly describe it). I found myself saying, "Wow, that's enough" more often. I had two others vape it with me and on both times we had to cut our vape sessions short because we got so high.
I had a DB wand with maybe... .08 grams in it. I had .1 grams of this kanna stuff in the bowl with it. This bowl has been able to get me lifted (quite high) on 4 separate occasions, with one other person also having vaped out of it twice. I would be surprised if my friend and I were simply experiencing a placebo effect.
I noticed that my eyes got very red. This hardly ever happens when I just vape weed (I simply get a "glossy" look to them, but no redness).
I don't know if my increased light sensitivity was due to a placebo effect or not since it was so minimal.
Oh, one last thing to add is that I think that it suppressed my urges for the munchies. Food still tasted amazing though!
