I saw something last night on the Documentary Channel which was pretty facincating. It was made in 2007, so some of you may have already seen it, but if you're into guitars, it's a must see:

Kind of a technical look inside of what it takes to repair and design guitars along with an inside look into the psyche of a very talented man who works with woods.

i put together a cigar box guitar and was receiving emails from three different luthier forums for a while, lol, never learnt myself to play it tho

have a keen appreciation for the luthiers tho, right pretty

Luthiers are amazing artist. It was quite the amateur hobby for me a few years back and it really made me love wood and wood working. Now all my main vapes are wooden

Im getting my own guitar handmade currently, and it is going to turn out truly beautiful. The problem with guitars like the one VW put up, is although they are aesthetically spectacular, the guitars themselves are not really meant to be played as they will not have a good tone with all that extra weight.

My first guitar was horrible, the rear of the bridge started to lift (warp) the top (accoustic) and the action became monumental within a couple of months. Dad freaked a little (as he had bought the guitar from a co-worker / guitar shop owner) when he saw what I was doing (an utterly worthless repair attempt).

I've made a couple of electric (bass) bodies from scratch. And once, along time ago, had a fine grained piece of spruce bookmatched and partly ribbed when a roof leak destroyed it. My one and only accoustic attempt, just far enough along to appreciate all the work it would have taken to complete, and how little I knew.

Yes, luthiers are special woodworkers, more than woodworkers... not just making pretty stuff, making beautiful sounds id almost more important.

Alder (Blocked) Strat ('69 Abbies), , Synthetic body fretless bass (Bartolini). . . tone is important, it comes from many factors... and I realized I wasn't going to make something better a long time ago... though I still work on my own guitars (copper lined tubs, fretwork, blocking and electronics mods, but that's simple stuff...)

No, that is Mara del Rosario Pilar Martnez Molina Gutirrez de los Perales Santa Ana Romanguera y de la Hinojosa Rasten's (Charo's) five amazing fingers. It's not well known, but she is considered one of the top Flamenco guitarists by those who would know. Cuchi-cuchi... She also speaks 6 languages.

I lived in the west of Ireland for a couple of years 2001-4, basically studying traditional music on my banjo, and this husband and wife team had not long moved over from Mexico. Shared friends on the music scene, and I think I even saw them busking on the street. Kinda metal/flamenco fusion. Amazing players, although perhaps not technically comparabel to Charo. They're pretty famous now over here.
