So Im new to this forum so if Im breaking rules or anything sorry. But anyways, I have been set on a magic flight launch box for about a month, just saving money. That is until I discovered the Flowermate. Now nothing makes sense.
First off, I dont like vaporizing. I like ripping bong and smokin L's, but I dont really want to kill my lungs all the time. Let me clarify, I want to like it because of the health benifits, but I have never had any great experiences with a vaporizor besides a DaVinci, which was just alright. I want a vaporizor for the efficiency, gotta save that money, health benifits, and the discreet nature, as I need a good way to smoke in a dorm room inconspicuously. Im not really concerned with odor from any vaporizer, because when combined with a SmokeBuddy (look em up there awesome) its odorfree after a squirt of Febreeze.
Soooo, after a lot of reading through this forum, I have a couple questions. The MFLB seems awesome because its wood, american made, and a lifetime warranty, but the battery situation blows. It also seems super efficient. before I discovered the FM, it was my pick. But now the FM seems to solve the battery problem, I love the mouthpiece storage, design, and no button operation. The questions, thanks for sticking in there,
1. Is it more or less efficient when compared to the MFLB. The MFLB seems ridiculously efficient. Ive read that it takes about .2 to fill the FM but will that get me stoned? I can normally face a small joint (.3-.5) and get high, but Im just not that experienced with vapes, although the Davinci seemed to work pretty well, not super impressed.
2. Does it get really hot when in use? The DaVinci would become nearly hot enough to burn your hand, which is a major turnoff
3. I dont really care about clouds, as long as I can see something (just a mental thing really haha) and get lifted, its all good. How long can I vape for each time, like how many hits each pack?
4. Does the unit itself smell alot when not in use?
5. Are the plastic doors on the top and bottom going to break in like a month?
6. And lastly, if anyone has had experience, What would you prefer for a first time vape user. Im not scared of the learning curve of the MFLB, but I like getting stoned, so one button operation as opposed to batteries, is effin sweet haha. MFLB or FM?

Thanks guys. Great community. Give yourselves a pat on the back and go get lifted.

I used a mflb for less then a week before I wanted to throw it away; way too much fussing around. The only good thing about it is that the clear stem fits nicely into the flowermate stem which helps cool the vapor. I love the flowermate so much I got 2nd one.

The flowermate gives perfect clouds and gets me really stoned without much cleaning and fuss so I could not ask for anything more. Just dump out the abv and there is almost no smell. The doors do seem cheap but they have not given me any problems in the last two months.

Really? I've heard so much good about the mflb..
How much do you pack in the FM and how long will that session last? Like time and how many good draws ?

I dono if this is necessarily the right place to discuss other vapes any further, but honestly of your biggest concern is health and matching smoking highs firstmost, you should spend more. I dont think the flowermate can quite match a joint with its temp and bowl size limitiations. Something like the T-Vape2.0 is more suited to that task by design (bigger ovens and temp raising).

However, if youre saying you would vape in your room, I'd defintely go with a plugin vape. Particularly a log like the E-Nano or Underdog as they are super efficient/powerful and similarly hand-wood-us-crafted like mflb, plus they are actually really small as well so not totally unportable.

Thanks for the reply but I'm definitely looking for a true portable because I would rather just go rip bong or something if I want to get dumb stoned. I basically just want a small vape that I can sit in my dorm on a daily basis, not arouse suspicion, and get high enough to do school work and chill. Basically something I can pick up and get high whenever. I'm beginning to feel like this is the one for me

I'd give the edge to the Mflb

2. Does it get really hot when in use? The DaVinci would become nearly hot enough to burn your hand, which is a major turnoff

It does not get as hot as the DaVinci or some other vapes. It also doesn't heat up as high as the DV.

3. I dont really care about clouds, as long as I can see something (just a mental thing really haha) and get lifted, its all good. How long can I vape for each time, like how many hits each pack?

I usually get 10-20 hits from each full pack. It doesn't produce clouds neccesarily but it's very solid vapor production imo. Similar to the DV (although in my experience the DV can push out a bit more)

4. Does the unit itself smell alot when not in use?

Nope. Take care of the plastic doors and you won't really smell much unless you inspect it with your nose.

5. Are the plastic doors on the top and bottom going to break in like a month?

I've had mine for over a month of daily use and the doors are just as new as ever. Just make sure not to put excessive downwards pressure on em and you'll be fine. I haven't been particularly careful with mine and they haven't degraded a bit.

6. And lastly, if anyone has had experience, What would you prefer for a first time vape user. Im not scared of the learning curve of the MFLB, but I like getting stoned, so one button operation as opposed to batteries, is effin sweet haha. MFLB or FM?

I have both and although neither were my first vape (the davinci was, funnily enough) I could easily see them being satisfactory for that purpose. Just weigh out the pros and cons.

MFLB has a lifetime warranty and an endless assortment of accessories. The learning curve isn't that bad and it can produce solid clouds once you master it. The battery issue isn't as big of a deal as you might think, they last me a solid session. Not the best vape for groups.

FM has a 30 day to 6 month warranty I believe, depending on where you bought it. There is no learning curve and it's simplicity is just about unmatched as far as portable vapes go. By that I mean there's not really much to it-no special tricks, no need-to-knows before you start vaping. Insert herb, hit, repeat. Battery is impressive and will last you many more sessions than the mflb battery. This is also not the ideal vape for groups (most portables arent) but it would fair much better. No technique and long battery life help. Just make sure to give it a couple seconds between hits.

Both can get you where you want to be it's just different strokes.

Thanks for such a thorough reply! Does the buds have to be very dry and well ground? It seems to me some vapes need fine ground, some take whole nugs. I'm leaning towards the FM

Also as a side note, I feel honored to have created a new thread! Stoner power haha

It's pretty efficient, you can vape a tiny little fleck or a full trench if you want. Not sure how much you would personally need, I estimate like half or so?

I get a couple trenches per battery.

It smells from a foot away or so. Depends on how used it is, and if there's much/any resin buildup inside.

It's not that it's picky about the grind, it's that since it's a conduction vaporizer it works better if it's finer since there's more surface area. You want your material to be dry, I leave my stuff out for a few hours and then grind it.

If you don't like vaping you probably won't like the Launch Box. The Flowermate is a little more automatic, given that you just put the bud inside and inhale. You need to watch your draw speed with the LB since that's how you control the temperature you're vaping at. Slower pulls lets the screen get hotter, a little faster and it cools down to lower temperatures. You can combust with the LB, not so with the FM. I guess for the reason of temperature range, I'd go with the LB, but for simple simple use, the FM might be a better choice.

What's your budget? There's lots of portables out there to choose from. Why didn't you like the DaVinci? Which one was it, the original DV or the Ascent? Do you want a portable or do you want a home unit? Plug-in or butane-based?

Quetzal, I'm loving your profile picture. My price range is a hundred. I refuse to pay more than that when I could just get some more buds. And it's the original DaVinci. It got me high, but the tube always fell off and got insanely hot. I definitely want a portable vape, but the only hundred dollar vapes that seem decent that I've found are the LB and FM

If you can afford to save a couple more bucks, I would seriously give the Arizer Solo a look. I posted a few flower milkshots with my glass and my Solo in the last 2-3 pages of that thread if you want to take a peek at it. It really is worth the price, IMO.

The Flowermate is a one-temperature constant heat device. The flavour will degrade quickly and it will be constantly emitting an odour, although as you say that isn't hard to deal with. Because the heat is always on, it is a session-style device, meaning that you are encouraged to chain-hit it because the load is always deteriorating and the heater will time out. You can turn it off and come back to an unfinished load, but that is an inefficient use of the battery because of the energy wasted re-heating the oven. Warm-up takes time as well. 30 seconds doesn't seem like long until you compare it to 3-4 seconds for the LB, then it seems like an eternity.

The LB temperature isn't restricted. You control it with your technique, which is a lot easier than you might think. The LB only heats while you are hitting it, a huge advantage in my opinion. It is more efficient than the Flowermate for that reason alone, since it isn't using up your load while you're not using it. The LB flavour is superior right from the beginning, and the difference increases in favour of the LB with every hit. It also won't be giving off an odour. Finally—and do not underestimate the value of this—it has the best warranty you can get. It's lifetime and it even covers user stupidity.

For context, I've owned and used the LB for years. My experience with the Flowermate is limited to hitting a re-branded version a couple of times. Price notwithstanding, I would not buy a Flowermate or any of its clones, and I would not recommend one. OTOH I have recommended the LB many times and I have even given away a few.

Yeah the use you describe still says log to me, its not like they don't have temp control, so you can get as stoned as you want (also, vapes run through bongs is incredible as well). Those still may be a little out of your price range however, but they are literally made for what you describe, they can be left on 24/7 and look very discrete so they're always ready to go.

I just reiterate this bc portables can be limiting, particularly in the low price range. I will second @Quetzalcoatl though and say that for only $127 a Solo would be a great allaround portable vape at a great value.

The MFLB is the original converter, but its had just asany disappointed users as satisfied ones, I started with a Thermovape T1 which is similarly manual and it served me very well, but once I got a Solo it made vaping even easier and much much more consistent

The Magic Flight Launch Box wins this one hands down in my book, adaptable and proven also not "from china" but an American company that has top notch customer service and a phone number and email. (and the good people at magic flight actually use and love their product)

The flowermate is mass produced to be sold under different names for different prices that alone makes it's Quality and future sketchy to me. I don't know but I would take the MFLB over anything you can buy on DL express or alibaba but maybe that's just me and the way I see the world.

I'm with Rude but I agree with Quetz as well, if you can spring for a solo, why not
I agree with all of this ^^^

The Solo is a great all-around vaporizer that fits most situations (home and on-the-go) and will even milk up your bong if you like, few others come close to doing all that... especially for the price. $160 @ PuffItUp.

I agree with the others. The Solo fits your requirements to a T. Easy to use, frugal with herb, good battery life, durable, clean flavor, 7 temperature settings. Only downside is its about the size of a red bull can, so not very pocketable. IMO, the Solo is the best bang for the buck portable out there.

So I've read everyone saying that the solo is the best option but I think that for me it's just too big, while I didn't really emphasis it, I would like a truly portable vape for on the go. Also the solo has that damn crack pipe that you gotta carry around haha.

I'm pretty sure the mflb is gunna be my first vape. Maybe the solo will be a good upgrade, especially if I learn to love vaping over smoking. Although the battery stuff sucks, it's super discreet, efficient, and cheap with bangin warranty. Plus I'm in love with the design, aesthetically. The solo is pretty ugly imo.

I might have missed it in an answer but the batteries for the LB, how fast does the charge drain. I've read some reviews saying they discharge after justa few drags

The glyph batteries will do at least one trench, maybe 2. It's always a good idea to have some spares.

Great choice in my opinion so is the Solo I like 'em both.

I get 2-3 trenches with the new batteries YMMV and they don't taper off in power like the older ones, They run with enough power to get good hit's right up until they die. One or two extra sets are always nice to have on hand for heavy use.

The power adaptor really does up the game for home use and is worth every penny to me as is a short whip or waterpipe whip, the options the magic flight gives you are awesome really.

From carrying only the box and a battery in you pocket and hitting it native for a quick hit or two or for a night with the Power Adapter & Orbiter doing a Bake-out no holds barred session the Magic flight Rocks.

You should consider the Firewood, or Hammer. Both I recommend more than the MFLB and FM.

The Flowermate is nice due to simplicity but the MFLB allows more versatility and control. I can get huge rips from the MFLB, albeit my draw isn't like the 99% but the MFLB is something you keep and the Flowermate is something to be tossed.

I find the MFLB more efficient, the FM doesn't do well with small loads in comparison to the MFLB.
MFLB has never gotten hot in my hand, but the FM gets a bit warm, you probably won't like the Hammer's top because that gets super hot but you never should touch that area anyway. The Firewood doesn't get too hot, just a nice warmth.
I don't think many vapes smell too much when loaded and not in use, but once turned on and heated you'll smell the Flowermate before you draw, the MFLB, Firewood, and Hammer don't heat the herb until you need it.

I recommend choosing the MFLB over the FM as a first time user. I feel it should be essential to understand vaporization mechanics suggest as control over breathing and when and when not to heat. It just really helps you get better with all vapes.

If you still want to learn but have access to more power the Hammer and Firewood are great options.

Yes the silcone makes it an airtight fit, you just have to push the mflb tube in a few millimeters. Together it effectively doubles the stem length which helps cool the vapor. Silicone tubing can then be attached to make it even longer or to a water pipe.

Glad to see that the FC team got your post from the MFLB thread moved to a more appropriate place.
...Now nothing makes sense.

Everything makes perfect sense.
You were hypnotized temporarily by a new product's advertising hype.
Facts:
  • MFLB is tried and true.... and so is it's warranty activity.
  • Flowermate is not.
The end.

Note: In this post I was working with the information implied by the thread title "FlowerMate Vapormax V or MFLB? Which to choose?" The first post also asked that specific question.
In my answer here I did not talk about the world of available portables... for that was not the question.
Now that I gave my 2¢ on the question, I will agree that the Solo is a champ, but I am not crazy about using the Solo while active (walking, driving etc).
I love the Inhalater too! but it is not as cost efficient as the Solo.
Good fortune to you in quest for ideal vapor situation!
