I just got the following email from United for Care:

We are in the process of calling all of our supporters but it is taking some time. I'm contacting everyone today by email because we are in desperate need of Patients who could benefit from Medical Marijuana, who would be willing to speak to the media. We realize that we are asking a lot, but we have ways to protect your anonymity if necessary. This is very important for many patients who can't speak for themselves and need this amendment to pass. If you or someone you know is a patient, please call me immediately: (407)792-2641.

Thank you for your continued support, we can't be appreciative enough! We will legalize medical marijuana in Florida, but we can't do it with you.

Feel free to add me on Facebook or follow me on twitter. You can contact me anytime with any questions or concerns you may have.

Sincerely,
Oscar H. Ramirez III, Regional Coordinator #YesOn2

Holy shit, 88% support! That may be the highest approval level of any state so far.

Florida voters back medical marijuana 9 to 1, poll finds

If the latest poll is right, it’s a safe bet that Florida will legalize medical marijuana this November.

A new Quinnipiac University poll finds that 88 percent of voters support the legal use of marijuana for medical purposes, while 10 percent do not. Those attitudes were unchanged from May, but support was six percentage points up from November. The lowest level of support was among senior citizens, who still back the measure roughly 6 to 1. The youngest segment of voters backed it 19 to 1.

A ballot measure that would legalize the drug was narrowly approved in January, which means that voters will have the chance in just a few months to add their state to a growing number with legal medical pot, which seems likely given the poll.

All true except the "narrowly approved" part. We collected over 500,000 more signatures than was required to put the measure on the ballot. They just stopped counting shortly after the required number were verified.

The hard part is getting those people to the polls. Old cranky people vote and young stoners do not.

Unfortunately, a large percentage of the youth in this generation have been dumbed down by the mainstream media. America needs a new party ....one void of democrats and republicans who have turned into nothing more than wings of the same bird.

I have never understood the argument that Dems and Repubs are the same. The parties have extremely divergent opinions on nearly all the important issues of the day. On Gay Rights, on Healthcare, on MJ, on Voting Rights, on Abortion, on Women's rights generally, on Immigration, on Freedom of Religion, on Gun Control, etc, etc, etc. How anyone thinks the parties stand for the same thing whether in Florida or anywhere else I just don't get it.
Now, if you want to say that neither have the right or correct position, that is strictly a matter of opinion and easily arguable, but to say they are the same is CRAZY!

Many Americans would disagree with what are considered important issues. If the issues you stated above are considered the most important issues than yes, the Democrat Republican divide would be representative of the divide among people. But most Americans I know hold other issues to be much more important. Issues that cross party lines such as Foreign Policy, the role corporate lobbying plays in our government, and education reform are not nearly as two sided. The problem I see that parties are self serving and thus their stances on issues change with the sway of public opinion.

They're the same when it comes to enabling corporations, defense contractors, and central banks on the way to instituting fascism, american-style. The perceived left/right differences are real, and are also a distraction, designed to occupy our minds and keep the two-party dynamic going during the descent.

But that's exactly the point. They are NOT the same, even on these issues. Only ONE party supports Citizen's United the allowing rich people to buy elections. Only ONE party has members like McCain and Graham and Cheney who never met a conflict they didn't like and will do everything they can to throw billions at Halliburton and Lockheed and Boeing. Only ONE party refuses to allow any funds to be spent fixing our roads and bridges and insists that Oil and Gas are the future rather than Solar and Wind and Tide and Geothermal. Only ONE party wants to reduce regulation and allow power plants to choke us to death and ruin our water and reverse all the gains we have made. Only ONE party insists that science is for suckers, and ideology is the driving force of mankind.
Maybe you haven't been paying attention, but are you aware of the huge fines, over $128 Billion already, far and away the largest in history, that have been levied on the big banks for their behavior in the housing crisis? They aren't nearly enough but they are huge sums and not insignificant. Do you think for a second that this would have happened under a republican administration?
Would republicans have created the CFPB to protect consumers? Of course not, they fought it tooth and nail. They don't care about consumers, they care about corporations. They want to insulate them from responsibility for anything that their quest for dollars causes. Fracking causing earthquakes? Not OUR problem. Leaking chemical tanks along our waterways and drinking water sources? Not OUR fault. Make the government pay for it with your tax dollars.

Sorry, there is only one party that favors monied interests over all else. There is only one party that could care less about the future of their own children. And it sure isn't the Democrats.

All true, but the democrats still piss me off with their unwavering support for monsanto and big pharma. And it's not enough to just take on the central banks, what happened to their support of labor unions, and by extension the middle class? If the best thing about democrats is that they're in opposition to most of the republican's evil agenda, then we're still in big trouble. What america needs is a viable third party!

Florida's Amendment #2 is to help ALL patients regardless of their political affiliation. There are a lot of sick republicans down here that could benefit from mmj!!

In my state we have one republican and one democrat, and they both voted against the bring jobs home act.

Sorry for the ot, but I'm sick of this crap and will heretofore start to follow jesse ventura's advice and vote 3rd party all the way. The two-party system is exactly what got us into this mess, they don't care what the people want. If you need evidence that the two-party system is broken, just look at our never-ending war machine. Nobody wants it yet even when we're not fighting overt wars, we're creating new ones covertly.

Also in my state you can only vote in a republican primary if you give up the right to vote in all other primaries. So I opted for the republican ballot, just to vote against the fucking tea-partiers. How fucked up is that? I will continue to vote in the two-party primaries, but fuck 'em both in the general election. /rant!
