Firewood 5, Splinter, Tubo evic

Hey guys, so ive been thru a few vapes this year, and the only ones that i like are the Mighty, Vape xhale evo, Tera V3.
Looking for a good on demand option since they seem to be the most efficient and hard hitting
I really want a tubo evic but they seem to be pricey ($220+)
splinter seems really nice too, but dont know anything about box mods or wattages
I would like to know everyones advice if you have tried these vapes and there ars absolutely no reviews on these vapes

I own both the Tubo and Splinter, cannot comment on the FW5.

The Splinter is great. Love the wood and slick look. Some say it’s too tall on a mod but I happen to like it and think it’s cool. I actually prefer it to the sidecar solution that the Tubo has. Can pack it different ways, set TC, or do power mode depending what I want from micro-dosing to multiple draws, low temp to high temp, Etc.

The Tubo is also great. Cool-looking vape. It’s best used in cruise mode for me so it’s almost more like a session than on-demand even though the herb does not vaporize unless you are drawing. But it also does straight up on-demand. And Splinter can also do cruise but I have never tried it.

Overall, very similar vapes. Both produce vapor on the hot side since it’s convection.

Off the top of my head I can remember at least one review of each of those. The Vape Critic has a Tubo, AJS has a splinter, and I believe it was Troy from 420 Vape Zone who had a Firewood 5. There are definitely video reviews out there, and plenty more info in the threads here. From what I can remember from reviews, performance was at least good on all of them, but I haven’t used any of them myself.

I just got my stempod and can say at this moment not to happy. It is most likely user error on my part due to this being my first 510 mod box. Got help from @HerbieVonVapster which got me to a good place. But I am not getting clouds yet and still figuring out the draw speed / hole for optimal vapor. Herbie’s Files work and was easy to install on the Paranormal Dna 250c.

Got a splinter 2 coming so will be a good compare. Going to be a few weeks.

I have the tubo and splinter. I like both but find the tubo easier to use. The box mod is contained in the wood body of the tubo and I like the way the software gets updated. I also still don't understand the box mod set up when its separate the way it is with the splinter. Basically I see the splinter as a 2 piece where you choose your own box mod and software. And the tubo is a one piece which contains an evic box mod with software developed for the tubo. I can use it without really needing to understand all the box mod settings which makes it easier for me. So when you look at prices consider the cost of the splinter plus the box mod to get the actual price.
You also might look at the iheat. I don't have mine yet so I can't compare it to the splinter but both Alan who make the iheat and RBT who makes the splinter are outstanding designers. So far I buy anything either of them makes and have been totally satisfied.
At the same time FJ who makes the tubo is very responsive to requests for help.

Gotta disagree. Bud gives some great reviews demonstrating use and his follow up videos are good as well. I really liked his follow up on the herbalizer as he really breaks down the issues that make themselves apparent over time. I’ve also spoke to him a few times over pm with questions and I have always found his answers informative and helpful.

But, different tokes for different folks. When I’m trying to get reviews I’ll usually read through the threads here and look for names I recognize or names that seem to stand out in the thread. Then I’ll peruse Other sites and look for reviews from Vape Critic, sneaky Pete, and Troy and look at their usage videos.

I have all three of these and have spent a little time with each, although my Splinter is an early build, so they are probably a little better now.

The Splinter might be the biggest and quickest hitting of the three (all of them are fast, though). If it has a downside, for me it's the short stems. But I haven't tried the new glass stems that look like elev8 heaters. I'll bet they work better. The Splinter is also the tallest when assembled.

The Tubo is the most versatile with the firmware funkyjunky has tweaked over the months. You can use it on-demand or session style. Short stems have the same issue as the Splinter, and I use the whip with mine with zero harshness. The sidecar footprint keeps it lower than the Splinter, but it has about the same volume, just not stacked on top.

FW5 is a solid vape, but has the smallest bowls of the three, so it's best for smaller appetites. It has the smallest footprint and is the only one of the three that's truly pocketable. Five bowls loaded and ready is some cool shit, even if vaping from the long tray can be awkward in some configurations.

All three are solid options, made in smaller batches by one or just a few people. Of the three, the Tubo became a regular for me since I love big hits on the go, but the whip puts a hurtin on that in public. The FW5 is probably the most ready for mass consumption right now, and probably the easiest to use without error. I hope that helps...all of them are good choices, imo.

I have my FW5 now, love it- and plan on getting a Tubo Evic in the near future. There are a few reviews on youtube on both nowdays, and Troy has one on the FW5 on his site too.

I'm currently leaning towards a Splinter Z or iHeat. A big requirement for me is portability, something I can carry in my pocket or bag, take to a gig, durable and inconspicuous. So a 510 mod with a wooden capsule stem is currently my ideal.

The tubo is possibly perfect, but I figure I can achieve a very similar level of quality with one of these 510 mods, of which the Splinter (Z) and iHeat seem to be the best to me, also supporting wooden capsule stems. Plus I think I could do cheaper buying my own 510, so I could get cheaper than a tubo.

The FW5 doesn't look as stealth, but seems really cool and everything I've heard about it is great. I've heard a couple people say it's fine in their pocket, but I'm still weary about the glass stem poking out, getting snapped off or something. I really need to see one in my hands to understand if it will fit my needs, but not a lot of chance of that in the UK.

The manual on-demands like Milaana and Lil' Bud seem really cool, but I'd like a vape that's easy to use for sharing when I'm out, something like the tubo or a 510 with good firmware you can use it fully auto or pulse the heat and surf as you please, that seems really cool.

First, a wooden capsule stem may not work with an iHeat check the depths before you purchase.

I am quickly coming to accept what @HerbieVonVapster said about needing a top quality mod to get the best from your atomizer.

I don't know if you could do as well as a Tubo if you purchased the mod and atomizer separately.

@Alan is making wooden capsule stems specifically for the iHeat.

But yeah, I'm starting to think maybe I should just get the Tubo. I would like something cheaper for carrying around with me though.

The Tubo is ready to go right out of the box. I did a couple of easy things that were on the instructions and works great. I really love cruise mode. I set it for almost max time and I can sip with the heater only turning on when a draw on the stem is taken. It is great with friends that can hit it hard with no instruction but to inhale.This also makes it great with water and is one of my favorite pieces to use it with.

Tubo just had a price increase. Make sure to order the male to male wpa for this in both sizes. I wish I would have known about the Dual Evic as dual batteries would be great. See if they can make you one. My favorite stem is the RBT XL8R. Good luck with your choice.

Thank you for mentioning that Tubo is ready to go! I have been quite nervous about this, as I am very specialized in what tech I can relate well to/do not find overwhelming.

For me the tubo is simpler to use. I don't really need to look for or change settings or do much at all. I just followed FJs setup instructions. I'm low tech so still working on settings with the splinter.
(I have the dual battery tubo and rarely use it with 2 batteries.)

Afaik FJ did one run of them a while ago. It's quite a bit bigger with the two batt compartment. And to be honest I barely ever use it...
Too big with two batteries and I find the single battery compartment a pain to swap out batteries.

I far prefer my OG Tubo as the battery switch is a breeze with the magnetic battery compartment door. I also have a PA that was made for the OG which is just fantastic for home use
