Expensive flower that is worth the price?

The local dispensaries (California) have some very good flower at reasonable prices of famous strains (Sour Diesel, Blue Dream, etc.)

Then they also have flower at twice the price, which is usually strains created by the grower (i.e. not in Leafly's list of 2,600 strains!).

So, I am curious - have you ever had super expensive flower that was worth the high price?

If so, list the "brand name" (and country or state if it is in the U.S.).

Names are nearly meaningless as it is all in how it is grown,processed and stored.

A local dispensary has their prerolls, so I will check it out (and that will be an easy and inexpensive way to do so).

These recommendations are helpful, because anything on commercial web sites - including reviews - may be fake or purchased reviews. (And everyone's marketing materials make it seem like their stuff is amazing, regardless of actual quality.)

Due to the "canna-business" explosion, there are plenty of expensive jars where one is paying for a huge marketing campaign, rather than growing expertise.

Decide if you trust your source or not which often means having a longer term relationship then just walking in off the street. Good shops (regardless of product) go out of their way to take good care of their customer base.

My local dispensary has far more merchandise than the "budtenders" could possibly try. And you can have political factors (small p) where the owner or manager are good friends with the guy promoting his wares, so the budtender does not want to badmouth that brand. "Hey people, we need to sell more 420Wow Flower, okay?"

I do unroll prerolls and dump them in a little jar. But it is helpful to be able to sample without paying $60.

So, I went to the dispensary and they had about 4 or 5 different strains of Nameless Genetics prerolls.

They had Mega Wellness OG, so I chose that one from the recommendation, thanks.

This dispensary is relatively inexpensive, but this particular product is not. The prerolls are 0.7g (they are usually 1.0g, sometimes 1.2g, sometimes 0.5g and some special large ones can be 1.5g), and nevertheless were the most expensive prerolls that were without added concentrate. I calculated that my price before taxes was equivalent to US$68 for an eighth (3.5g). which is 2/3 more than the usual prermium price there. So, the NG prerolls are okay for trying each strain, but it is not a long term purchase method.

Taxes here run about 28% - but that includes testing for THC% and pesticide content - and it also keeps the "legal pot will make my children into losers" contingent in check, because the "fix the potholes" contingent is probably bigger around here.

If you have connected with a reliable and decent supplier then that could be the best of both worlds.

Yes, the commercial world can be creepy - c.f. Canndescent. However, having once been arrested merely for having a few joints, prohibition is no fun either.

The dispensary has a really nice Sour Diesel that costs me $149 per ounce, which is $190 after taxes, which is not bad - 25 years ago, it was not unusual to spend $500 for a premium ounce, which is $865 in 2018 dollars.

I do the same. Unroll and pack vape.

The dominate charactersitc that I had with the Mega Wellness was how quick it hit. I'm used to a 10 minute wait when I vape but the Mega started to hit before I even exhaled. Nice 15 minute rush and then levels out.

Curious if you have the same experience as I.

At my dispensary it was 55 an eighth out the door. Still expensive though but for me, worth the price of admission.

Still like my landrace African sativas but they're so hard to come by. Love the Mega as well but it just doesn't provide those great animations on the back of my eyelids like a well cured 100% sativa does. Nice change of pace though.

Both times they asked them "So what is your favorite, for your own use" undoubtedly expecting some plug for a particular concentrate, and in all 5 cases, they replied "flower". (Because they knew first hand, what was missing in concentrate.)

Sounds good, although I've never had any (unless you count the Durban that is supposedly in Cookies).

The only landrace sativa I've been able to find is Jamaican Lamb's Bread. I don't think any others have so far been grown by a licensed and tested farm, but I'm willing to give it time.

If you ever run across Kilimanjaro, don't pass it up. It's still my favorite but I haven’t seen it around for almost 2 years now.

I tried it last night. First impression is very relaxing, very pleasant, a little more sedating than I generally look for, but very good if one IS looking for something a little sedating (e.g. after a very stressful day of work). It usually takes me two or three uses on different evenings to get a more specific impression.
