Egg Lecithin

Greetings,

First time poster and New Medical Marijuana Card Holder. Have learnt a great deal by reading these Cooking Threads... so much so, I order the Ardent Lift so that I can begin making edibles.

With that said, I see a number of posts that mention Lecithin... Soy Lecithin that is...

Soy is a huge No No to me... I live a very Clean Lifestyle... Cook my own Food.. rarely if ever eat out and when I do.. I ensure that I eat as clean as possible.

Evidently and I still can't find an answer, why is Lecithin used and based on a little research it appears if I have to use Lecithin, I can use Egg Lecithin instead... right?

So 1. can someone please tell me where and why we use Lecithin other than being an emulsifier?

And 2. If the answer is yes, must use lecithin for this and that.. can I instead use Egg Lecithin?

Thank you so much!

I use sunflower lecithin. I like the liquid form.

I also use myrcene in all my edibles.

In addition to being an emulsifier, the lecithin [and myrcene] contribute to increasing bioavailability. Meaning, more of the medicine is going to make it past your GI track, stomach acids, liver filter and.... finally, into the bloodstream. After that, it needs to pass through the blood brain barrier. Coconut oil is great for that. I stopped using butter and switched to coconut oil quite a while ago.

I have never used egg lecithin and I don't know much about it but from what little I have read, it is a fine alternative to soy. I never use soy in anything. It's tough to avoid in many processed foods but I make most of my food from scratch so I am good at keeping it out of my diet.

Kinda confused by Why you use Myrcene when it naturally found in Cannabis?

To potentiate an entourage effect after the majority of monoterpenes offgas during decarboxylation.

Personally, I'm not sure that lecithin is really necessary if using coconut oil as a carrier. But I definitely haven't made as many edibles as @Hackerman so I'm no expert.

I just like to use cellulose capsules over gelatin for surviving the ride into 11-hydroxy-THC

Yep, what he said. Often terps are lost in the decarb or infusion. I add the myrcene back in to account for loss and to tip the scales slightly in favor of the myrcene.

There is a nice thread at IC Mag where several of us were experimenting with adding different terps to edibles to control the effect. Now, I can use terps to make my edibles effects more predictable and more pronounced. I have recipes for party time, sleepy time and, pain relief.

Ok, so what ratio to MCT oil would you suggest for both Egg Lecithin and Myrcene?

I will first be using the Ardent Lift for both Decab and Infusion.

According to Ardent... 1oz (30ml) of MCT Oil to 500mg of Decarbed Flower or more if you want a more potent outcome!

I intend to start with just 1 Drop of MCT Oil in coffee to see what effects I get and will take another drop 30 minutes later and so on.

When I move to butter... (for cooking).. is this where the Egg Lecithin and Mycrene come in?

As such 1 stick (4oz) of Organic Butter will need about 2 grams of flower... and then how many milligrams for the Egg Lecithin and Mycrene?

rockrabbit,
You can't go by my recipe because I have tolerance issues and my dose would probably make most people flip out. LOL However, when I make caps, I will use about a 1 gram of rosin and about a 1/4 tsp of lecithin and 5 or 10ul of myrcene. This makes about 4 caps which is 1 dose for me.

If I am making candy for my friends, I use ABV or rosin pucks. I either Sous Vide or crock pot with enough oil to saturate the ABV/pucks and as much lecithin as I can add without overly affecting taste. Last time, I put about a 1/4 cup of lecithin in with 1 cup of coconut oil and 4 ounces of ABV or rosin pucks. This makes it too weak for me but my friends love it.
