Dynavap and throat

hello

I have a extremely sensitive throat. It gets irritated and very sore even after vaping usually even at low temps.
I am interested in getting a dynavap. I was just wondering compared to other vapourizers how smooth/harsh the vapour generated from the dynavap series is.

I only have experience with Dynavap Vapcaps... The vapor, especially from the M, is relatively hot and me and my wife were getting throat irritation after a vaping session. What solved this issue for us is to pass this vapor through a water pipe / bong to cool it off. Others have also used a J-Stem or a longer glass stem to cool off the vapor.

I don't find the DynaVap too hot. I use an OmniVap XL titanium. The first cycle/click is not at all hot – subsequent cycles/clicks become increasingly hotter. If I understand correctly, the XL runs the coolest of the DynaVaps, owing to its greater length, which provides more space for the vapour to cool.

Being a flavour-chaser, I've learned to stop heating before the click. This mitigates the heat somewhat.

Such judgments are subjective, of course, but by far the coolest vapour I've experienced – without water toys – is the Mighty.

No matter the vape you should try mouth pulls. Puff like on a cigar a couple times then inhale. The extra time the vapor is in your mouth helps cool it. Works great.

I stopped using my vapcaps because they irritated my throat and mainly use whips with my vapes. But, for some reason when I got my induction heater- no problem with vapcaps. I don't think I was able to control the butane to keep the temp low and consistent.

I believe that @Summer has posted in the past that making a little filter out of hemp fiber can also help to smooth out hits from the vapcap if they’re too harsh. I also tend to use my vapcap through water but for the most part I don’t find it too bothersome direct. My favorite method however may be through a jhook.

It's not me using hemp @virtualpurple. Don't have the patience for it.

The Ghost MV-1 used at levels 1 - 3 provides totally non-irritating vapor as does the Splinter/ Splinter Z on low wattage with a cooling stem.

I'm guessing a lot of vapes' vapor will be comfortable now with the continued mass introduction of cooling stems. The cooling stems are a game-changer. I'm waiting for one of the vape mfrs to get cooling j-hooks in.

Back to the vapcap. I, too, use an induction heater so the vapor to me is no where near as harsh as with a lighter.

I wanted to grab this XL cooling vc stem, but it flew out the door after vgoodiez inventory was posted, so next time.

I agree that using the vc through water works well.

Vapcap omni XL is just as hot as regular length, which also produces hot vapor. I sold both because they basically burned my throat. If you use a vapcap, use with water or as @John Coaltrain says how to.

I never tried the induction heater; that sounds better to me as a way to use a nap cap.

Listening for "clicks" gets old, FYI...

Edit: I didnt mean to type "nap cap" and went to fix it to vapcap, but since it has to be quiet around you to use the vape, the name kinda fits.

You know, you’re absolutely right (well, you would know that after all), I had been thinking of @Squiby, my mistake! Squiby is the vapcap guru and you keep me informed with all things splinter related!

I have a very sensitive lungs (severe chronic lifelong asthmatic) and have found that mouth pulls and degummed hemp fiber filters create a very smooth, cool, non irritating vapour. With the VapCap using these techniques I never experience not harsh Vapor and never cough.

Take a few inches of degummed hemp fiber.

Moisten one end and wind it like you are preparing to thread a needle. Place it between your thumb and index finger and wind it round and round between your two fingers to create a flat round filter.

Stuff this into the bottom of your bowl. This filter will effectively remove any tiny particles that may otherwise pass through your screen, into the airpath and into your lungs. It also keeps your condenser surprisingly clean and clear of debris.

The mouth pull technique provides a cooler fresher vapor inhale. Dial down to a tight air restriction and cover the air port for most of the toke. Pull the vapor into your mouth without inhaling, like you would when puffing on a cigarette or cigar. Near the end of the pull, open or feather the air port to bring the vapor into your mouth along with that pulse of fresh cool air, or open your mouth, remove the Vapcap and inhale the vapour and fresh air into your lungs. Exhale. Repeat.

Use a filter. Take short mouth pulls versus long tokes and incorporate fresh air.

This technique, for me, gets me where I want to be with no lung irritation. It is the smoothest, coolest vapor I have ever experienced in a vape. Because of this and all the other inherent characteristics of this ingenious device, my VAS is now only focused on Dynavap parts and accessories.

If you experience lung irritation, get a VapCap and try this technique.

Anything worth doing, is worth overdoing.
I also get throat irritation and find that some type of water bubbler is what helps the most. If
I choose to "dry" vape then the mouth pulls, long glass airpaths, filters and other suggestions do help.

While a cooler vapor helps, I think that it's the humidity of the water that helps me the most. I actually believe hot tap water is easier on my throat than cold water because of the increased water vapor. I just don't do that enough because I get lazy to fill the bubbler with hot water every time.

Another big benefit came from using concentrates more often than flower. With concentrates you only need 2-3 hits to get the same effect as 6-8 puffs on a bowl (or bowls) of flower. The more huffing and puffing the more chance of irritation.

They can be or not depending on how you heat them

 For me this ^^ is the only answer. I can get taste only, no visible vapour, to warm/hot and big visible clouds from the first hit, all depending on where and how long i heat the cap for.

Very versatile imo

I do often wonder why people have different tolerances to different vapes, when essentially they're all just ways of delivering heat (usually all around the same temp) to a bowl. Especially ex-smokers...
Probably all down to how quick the extraction happens I suppose  the actives hitting the lungs etc rather than the actual heat.
I mean my air has a shorter stem length than my vapcap...

Anyway I think you'd be fine if you learn where to heat the cap to get the vapour the way you want it. Or maybe try water or take smaller/shorter inhalations I guess if your lungs are really bad :hmm:

Which vapes are good/bad for you??

I was reading through the thread and was so surprised with the responses. So I went and pulled out my M granted I do have an induction, I made it click once and hit without carbing it was cool and got a lot of production, 4 heat up cycles just as cool and smooth as the first. The more u carb it the hotter the vapor so u can make ur vapor as cool as u wish.

I just received one and I do think it is harsh and you have to toke hard with the hole covered, however I am trying to dial in my technique.

Try hitting it without carbing it. Just touch the carb in between ur hits don’t hold it.
Yes sir, I have been trying to cover the hole and uncover the whole systematically as i toke and it seems to work better. By the time I am done experimenting I know something worked
