Does vapor degrade teeth?

I went to the dentist yesterday and it got me wondering if vaporizing has any effect
on tooth or mouth health. Does anyone know?

I have heard reports that some people experience a pain in their teeth when vaping - the cause of this is a serious cavity which usually can be fixed simply by seeing a dentist.

I don't see how the vapor could harm the teeth, but I'm no expert!

If you're worried about that, get some of this : http://www.biotene.com

Yeah I was using that before I began regularly consuming. I haven't had much success with it, doesn't matter if I pregame or use it after a session I still have pretty bad dry mouth

I just try to stay hydrated and brush my teeth after sessions. Im not a medical user so I typically only vape during the 4-6 hours before I go to sleep. If I vaped all day every day to control symptoms I would seriously worry about the negative effects of dry mouth :tinfoil:

I used to do drugs. I still do, but I used to, too
Since changing from smoking to vaping I have had gum issues that I put down to the dryness of the vapor.

I will give this a shot.

(another handy FC tip)

Should say I'm planning to get a nice air humidifier also as I think this will help too.

@h3rbalist - Smoking often masks the signs of gum disease - as a result of vasoconstriction. Often, when people quit smoking it seems like they develop gum problems.... since their gums can bleed more as a result of better blood flow to the gums - a 'healthy' response to quitting. However, it's usually the case that the gums were already diseased - but the signs weren't so obvious. Quitting smoking is definitely a positive move in terms of gum health. I have no idea how vaping affects teeth themselves - but would agree it's important to ensure you're adequately hydrated to help prevent dry mouth.

To fight the dry mouth I've experienced after vaping, I stock up on sugar free hard candy.

There's pretty much a flavor to suit anyone's taste, hides the weed breath, and if you get the right flavor - let the  begin.

Chronic dry mouth is bad for the mouth, especially your gums.
I don't get dry mouth from vaping unless I'm using a model that provides big hits but poor vapor/air ratio. Even then, just rehydrate between hits. As for gum damage, smoke is a big culprit, especially cigarettes. My gum problems came to a halt when I stopped all combustion. I think staining from vapor is about all you'd have to worry about, and I'm not sure that brushing won't eliminate that. I drink coffee and tea, so that kind of rules me out as a tester.

Spoke with my dentist about this in depth - essentially she said the same thing z9 said, that the only thing I need to worry about is if it is causing chronic dry mouth or compounding the issue; we actually got onto the topic because she noticed my gums were very dry and somewhat inflamed similar to smokers yet I had not smoked in over a year.

When you brush your teeth do you really brush your gums? That's the most important part of oral health imo, and why soft brushes are always recommended. If you're not used to it start gently; your gums may bleed a bit the first few days, but they will recover quickly and turn a nice healthy pink before you know it.

i agree with all the mouth-health tips above and also i noticed a complete turnaround (zero cavities last annual checkup) and the big change i made was to eliminate all gum and mouth-mint use and replace it with sucking on whole cloves throughout the day. Taste (for me) is great and takes care of any bad breath issues and has many health bennies to mouth and whole-body.

For the past couple of months every time I got high (whether it was vaporizing or combustion) my teeth or gums started to itch (around my wisdom teeth and on the bottom middle two teeth). I think it was due to my wisdom teeth (which I got all 4 extracted today) and the bottom middle are just crowded (maybe due to the wisdom teeth). I'll see in a week or so whether or not it feels any better, if not may I'll go to the dentist and check it out. I've never had cavities or anything, but my oral hygiene definitely wasn't the best growing up.

A lot of things are enhanced when high, but at least for me, quality toothbrushing etc is not one of them. I went through a period of years of progressively worsening teeth & gums. Now I always try to do my teeth first, then get high later!

Dental care involves a lot of things such as care of the gums and various other things. My family dentist Redondo Beach has provided various tips for the routine check-up. He has provided amazing tips that I follow regularly and have seen some great improvement. So suggest others too to take care of these things.

Chronic dry mouth is bad for the mouth, especially your gums. I've always worried that regularly consuming weed will negatively impact my health in this regard.

I get more chronic dry mouth from the big pharma scrips than from my cannabis (vaped flower, concentrate, edibles). I recall some studies that showed it helped prevent dental problems, can't remember if that was tied to CBD specifically.

I've never found Biotene to be worth a crap.

Back in the times when I was a heavy joint and bong smoker, my dentist could locate some dark debris (don't know the English word) on my teeth, caused by tobacco.
I'm vaping for nearly 20 years now and visit a dentist twice a year. He never mentioned anything and all my teeth and my whole buccal cavity are fine.

I don't use this product but was curious so I googled...

What does biotene do for you? The Biotene® Oral Dry Mouth Rinse, Gel, and Spray are regulated as medical devices and provide dry mouth symptom relief. The Biotene® Oral Moisturizing Rinse and Toothpastes provide oral hygiene benefits only and are not indicated to provide dry mouth symptom relief.

Gotta watch out for their misleading "Moisturizing" products that don't actually moisturize :suspicious:

So called "cotton mouth" is not great for your teeth as they need to "bathe" in saliva to stay healthy. I think smoking is actually worse then vaping in this regard though I have no hard evidence to back this up. For me it's not a reason to stop vaping, but yes I do hydrate well when vaping, also to prevent excessive dryness in the throat.
