DaVinci died. Now what?

Hey folks,

My DaVinci vaporizer died after only 5 months. I loved that vape, but the manufacturer won't honor my warranty because they said the web site I bought it from was not an "authorized reseller."

I'm pretty upset about it. It's a real DaVinci with a valid serial number, it was brand new and came with warranty paperwork and a real box and everything. I've never, ever had a company deny a warranty like this. Apparently they can't control their own supply lines so they expect their customers to suffer when their products get into the "wrong" hands? Too bad... As much as I liked the vape I won't be buying another one or supporting this company ever again.

So, what else is out there that compares? I had a first gen iolite and liked it, but the DaVinci with the battery is a huge improvement over the butane IMHO. I'll start digging through vape threads in the meantime, seeing if I can find something else, but any advice you kind folks can throw my way would be really appreciated.

Put your complaint in the DV thread and PM the rep that is on here you may have better luck. I would still buy a solo but get a new DV as you are within your rights period.

I've never, ever had a company deny a warranty like this.

Try buying an Onkyo receiver (just one example) from an unauthorized reseller and then try to get a warranty repair on it. There are many companies that require you to buy from an authorized source to get a manuf. warranty, and any time you get a lower than normal price (which you obviously did), it's your responsibility to make sure you'll get a valid warranty.

This was posted by DV in May of 2012. As for making sure no new units get in the hands of unauthorized sellers, that's never possible for any popular consumer products. There are always leaks. I've even seen it with high end flooring standing audio speakers.

eBay and Amazon sellers always need to be checked out, warranty wise, since all kinds of sellers (including authorized vape sellers with their own sites) can be selling there.

Maybe this can be clarified for me, but here's what I don't understand:

DV made the product. DV got paid for the product. DV shipped the product. What does it matter who actually performs the final retail sale to the end customer? Seems like a nice way for DV to dump a bunch of product on the market and not have to support them. Maybe the "unauthorized vendors" are where they ship their "seconds" (imperfect units that come off the production line).

I see the vendor I bought mine five months ago is still happily selling units and advertising them as having a warranty. Clearly they're getting them from somewhere. It's hard to imagine the manufacturer not being complicit in this.

In the end, it's the customer who gets screwed, and that sucks.

There are authorized vendors that are sponsors on this site that sell on ebay so I don't get it either why a warranty wouldn't be honored. Like you said marvel they are getting them legally from a distributor that DV sold to or other vape products because this goes for many of them. I would be really angry if they didn't honor it. I have not bought any of my main vapes on ebay or amazon but I don't get the issue.

To add to max's post there was another post by DV that said no fake or clones have been seen on the market which means to me they are all genuine DV products so like you I don't get it. I personally would, like I said get a solo but fight this tooth and nail.

Does the warranty itself state that the warranty is invalidated if the product is purchased through an unauthorized retailer? Manufacturers don't legally have to provide written warranties, but if they do, then they're legally bound to honor it and the only way out is to have stated these exceptions in the warranty itself. Google "consumer law" if you want more info. But IMO throwing a small fit with the right sources to back your argument should get it handled no problem - as long as the units being sold via eBay aren't stolen goods which would legally void the warranty but would entitle you to a full refund.

I also don't understand why a company would think that stating only on this forum that they won't authorize warranties on products sold via certain outlets is enough to notify their entire customer base. Obviously we host only a small percentage of the overall customer population so it's beyond unfair to assume that every customer will be aware of these undocumented exceptions.

You act like DV is the only company that requires authorized resellers for warranty coverage. That's far from the case. Either buy from a valid reseller or get your best price and take your chances. This isn't a thread for discussing the philosophy of warranty coverage.
