How I can make my Titanium parts have that cool steam punk hue ?
Well, there are couple of easy ways that you can apply that hue at any Titanium made vapCap part .
Method #1 :
You will need :
-A deep plastic or glass container (preferably with a lid )
-Hydrogen Peroxide ( the 3% kind will do ,but the higher the concentration the faster the results )
-Some time.
Procedure : Place the titanium parts ,hanging mid-air ,using some plastic string , inside the container .
Make sure the string is not covering any part of the area you wish to take the steam-punk hue.
Fill with hydrogen peroxide.
Make sure that the Titanium parts are well degreased and thoroughly cleaned before placing them into the bath and that now are well covered by Hydrogen Peroxide.
Place the lid at the container
Then all you have to do is wait, checking regularly the hue that the parts are taking
and maybe do some stirring .
It will go slowly from -to :
Natural Titanium grey=>"smoked light gold "=>
"bronze" => "antique bronze" =>"smoked copper"=>
"eggplant" => "purple" .
Tip: warming a bit the hydrogen peroxide might speed things up.
But be cautious: you must not bring hydrogen peroxide to boiling point .
Method #2 :
You will need :
-Plastic or glass bowl
-Distilled water
-White Vinegar
-Variable Power supply ( 12 -15 Volts needed ,you can use multiple batteries or
3x 5 Volt USB wall chargers ,with their OUTPUTS in line connected ).
-Aluminium foil
-Titanium string ( used for making vaping rebuildable coils )
First, degrease as good as you can the titanum parts to be anodized.
Mix the distilled water with the white vinegar ( 3:1 volume-wise ) .
Place at the fridge and let it stay, until the temperature of the solution is about 4°C.
Then pour the solution at the bowl .
By using a large piece of Aluminium foil placed at one side of the bowl but dipped inside the solution, you are making the Cathode. You will connect that foil with the "minus" pole
of the power supply.Make sure that only aluminium is touching the solution and not any wire or
crocodile clip .
Then using the Titanium wire on the titanium parts you want to anodize ,
you hang them inside the bowl. Make sure that they are fully covered by the solution.
Connect with the "plus" pole of the PSU.
Apply power at the anodizing system.
You aim between 12 Volts ( bronze ) till 15 Volts ( smoked copper ).
When you are satisfied with the hue ,take out the parts from the bath ,and wash with
plain tap water.
