Crafty Next?

I'm looking for some advice on my next portable purchase. I have owned various desktops and portables - PD, CRZ, VX Cloud, MFLB, Thermovape, Solo, and ESV. I like the ESV generally a lot (nice form factor and great taste), but I need a reliable portable for medical reasons and don't trust the ESV's reliability for travel, which I have coming up. The ESV is great when it works and Elevape provides outstanding customer service, but I've had to send it in several times, and even when it's generally working, it can be fussy. So I'm looking for a pocket sized, discreet, reliable, no fuss (no constant unclogging, cleaning, fiddling to get best results), good tasting, battery powered portable for flowers (don't currently do concentrates). Although the ESV's on-demand vapor is a nice feature, I rarely mind waiting 30 seconds. From what I've read, the Crafty is a very good and reliable unit, although it's expensive and has so-so battery life. A few questions:

1. Any portables that I should consider other than the Crafty? The Air looks good, but I lean away from having to deal with stems when out and about (not necessarily a deal breaker). The Alfa looks interesting as well, but I've mostly stuck with pure convection. I've heard some nice things about the Haze, but it seems to need a bit of cleaning and fuss.

2. What is the best online store from which to purchase the Crafty? I inquired about purchasing one from Vapornation, but they (and apparently some other portals) do not honor any coupons for S&B products. Looks like some stores do though. I sure would be interested in a 10% discount on such an expensive product.

3. How much material does the Crafty bowl usually hold?

4. Any other advice?

Because I need to send the ESV in for service, and I need to hit the road soon, I'd like to make the purchase very soon. Many thanks.

I wouldn't call the Crafty reliable… One of the reasons I have switched back to flame vapes until I get a Grasshopper…

Maybe you could pre-order a Grasshopper or a RBT 18mm unregulated single battery unit?

Thanks natural farmer. I didn't realize that there were significant reliability issues with the Crafty. I wasn't considering a flame vape because torch lighters aren't good for plane travel, and I wouldn't consider anything that needs a lighter discreet. But I welcome your input on that. Based on your signature, you have have plenty of experience an knowledge with portables.

Almost only portables for me, I can't stand having to be attached to a wall!

I wasn't talking only about the malfunctions some (if not most) Crafties eventually have but the very short battery life as well… It could suit you though if you don't vape with company and you don't go through many loads per day.

EDIT: Oh, and about discretion… Imo no portable is discreet enough when you vape herbs that smell. Been there, used the most discreet vapes out there, even vaped with the MFLB inside the airport in Paris but let me tell you, I felt much better when visiting the WC and had a mini session there. Since then, when I am out, in a place without heavy odors (smokers), it's always the toilet for me!

Thanks nf. I am a pure medical user. I don't vape with company, and I've used .2-.3 ounces per month consistently for several years. If I creep toward .4, I make sure to get myself down to .25. But your comments about the Crafty certainly have raised a concern. For >$300, I expect consistent reliability.

I need something ASAP, and the Grasshopper seems to have had some issues getting out of the gate.

I don't think I'd call the Crafty unreliable by any means. There have been units that have failed, but those people are taken care of quickly. Imagine how many Crafty/Mighty's have been sold. If there were really a significant issue, there would be a LOT more people complaining.

I have one of the oldest Crafty's (SN below 500), and mine is still working hard.

It's true the battery life for the Crafty isn't great, and that it's not good for groups at all. But since you'd be alone, and with the amount you go through, I don't see the battery being an issue for you.

By the time the Grasshopper gets to you I doubt there are any issues left, but you my friend are in trouble if you want something asap (and by trouble I mean getting the Crafty which is very expensive)! Not many battery-powered ones to choose from yet imo. Not any that can compete with the Crafty in vapor quality and quantity, except the new miVape maybe if it starts rolling with no issues soon. For lesser vapes you have plenty choices of course…

The Crafty is a great portable vape. Well worth the $ and the flavor is wonderful. I think where you are going to use it outside is important. it's not very discreet for big cities , but if you just want a reliable vape for outdoors away from home-Get a Crafty .

Definitely go to PuffItUp, they'll do you right and I doubt you'll find a cheaper price. Just message them on here and ask for the FC discount.

I've honestly never measured what I put in the Crafty, I just load a small, medium, or large bowl. I've never had an issue loading a small bowl (maybe 25% of the bowl's capacity?). Some people like to use the liquid pad to take up the extra room in the bowl, but I don't really find it necessary. It would increase your conduction, and could result in a larger first hit, but I don't worry about it at all.

I can tell you the bowl can hold a decent amount if packed fully though. I'm a heavy vaper, and a fully loaded Crafty bowl can get me feeling right But if you prefer smaller loads, that's no issue either.

In fact, you'd experience greater bowls per battery that way. I usually get about 3 bowls per charge, but that's because I usually load large bowls that take a while to vape, and I'm not rushing it.

Crafty is 4.3 tall x 2.2 x 1.3"

Can you make a cardboard model of each to really see/feel : is the Mighty small enough for you?

This is a good point. The only reason to get a Crafty over a Mighty is if you really want/need the smaller size. The Mighty is larger, but it's really not that big, it can still fit in a pocket.

If you can deal with the slightly larger size, the Mighty is definitely the way to go.

I love my Crafty, but always recommend people go for the Mighty if they don't need the extra stealth. In my current situation, I need the stealth of the Crafty.

My buddy and I found the Crafty and Mighty in a B&M, and despite both being smaller than we thought they'd be- he went for the Crafty- but only because he loves tiny gadgets and gimmicky tech
Also they have a discount for card holders, so he ended up buying it there (other option was massdrop at the time)

With the FC discount at PIU, the Mighty is damned cheap, cheaper than the old Crafty price. I don't own a Crafty, but my Mighty has ruled my little world since I got it two months ago. It's completely portable and has excellent battery life. I doubt you will regret purchasing either.
