Coughing while vaping = BAD vaping?

many of us has got it at some point: coughing while vaping. But what does it really mean?
It usually happen to me when I vape at higher T, probably too high, or when my starch got to an end, no more cannabinoids in there coz I've vaped them all... Keep vaping would be useless

Coughing while vaping = bad vaping.

What do you think?

I find it's more strain dependent, rather than with temps... some strains make me cough and some don't.

Obviously regardless of strain I get the odd time I might overdo a hit and cough a bit, but mostly it just depends on the strain for me.

Depends on the strains to make me cough. I usually cough when I pull for 20 seconds real slow. But then I think I'm also out of oxygen too. Normal sessions I do not cough cause I don't normally pull for 20 seconds, very rarely.

Ok. So if it is the strain also that contributes to coughing, does it mean you are hurting a little bit somehow your lung? Coughing is quiet often a symptoms of discomfort. If that's the case it would emply trying to vape only up to just before the coughing starts

Not necessarily, cannabis has expectorant properties, so maybe its allowing you to cough rather than making you cough..?
Not all coughing is bad

Exactly what @Gray Area said:tup:...

Cannabis in general possess a myriad of Terpenes that are multi-functional, there are a few different Terps that fall into the Expectorant category. Much like Mucinex, these help expel excess residuals along the lining of the lungs.

A-Pinene acts as a Bronchodilator also (Causes expansion of the Bronchi and can ironically be found in Inhalers to alleviate the symptoms of Asthma)

These Terpenes vary at different levels throughout differing strains, and may actually vary from flower to flower on the same plant.

Being somewhat new as a Vaporist, I noticed a huge difference in the cough induced from a huge combusted bong hit, and the cough induced from a large hit of vapor.

I notice if I vaporize a strain that is dry I find it more harsh and I'm more apt to cough. Some strains need to be vaporized at a lower temperature or I cough.

Some vapes run hot like the Pinnacle Pro a real dry vapor. The oven is one of those units where it is too close to the mouthpiece - a short air path. I needed a water tool most of the time. The micro shower wt cooled the vapor to make it tolerable.

My goal is not to cough and usually if I realize that the vapor is harsh I don't take as large of a draw. I can pretty well gage as I draw.

One of reasons I vaporize is so cannabis isn't so hard on my lungs.

That's very interesting, I never really considered that but now that you mention it I realise that some of my strains don't make me cough at all. Do you think this is just due to some strains having denser vapour production or something else?

One factor is whether or not the grower used an air filter for their air (if grown indoor). There are all sorts of little particles than can get into the bud. I've definitely noticed when otherwise really dank bud was quite harsh and I'm pretty sure it's because an air filter was not used.

Also I believe higher temps create more particles, so high temp hits are harsher.

Cure time will also effect harshness
This is a very relevant observation.

Remember that during the cure, microbes are feasting on the inactive plant components like chlorophyll. You are literally losing inactives from your bud as it cures and this can almost be considered a very mild concentration of active components as a result. These inactive plant materials can be quite harsh when heated and inhaled.

Also terpenes and cannabinoids are often themselves expectorants as said above. Coughing is not necessarily a bad sign and should be expected when one inhales any expectorant :)

I'm only using 1 strain grown by a friend's partner. I don't know the name. Nevertheless, I cough with some vapes and not others. I use water with the ones that induce coughing to reduce it. As an example, I cough quite a bit with the Lily and not at all with the Peace. No coughing with the Air but cough with the Solo dry.

I've had a similar experience. I used to cough alot and had an slight itch in my throat accompanied by coughing, that affected my voice the whole day, after I vaped from yhe Arizer extreme q. I dont know what is was, I played wth the temps, dry or bubbler hits, it was always present.

I dont get this with my e nano.

The MFLB always makes me cough after a few sessions. I get a tickle that becomes more sensitive with each session.

The Solo not so much unless I really heat saturate a new bowl at level 7 before starting the session and deliberately chase dense clouds. I can't speak to whether a particular strain causes me to cough because I don't live in a legal state and have only been able to get my greedy little hands on one good strain for years now. As soon as my state goes legal I'll be really, really, really happy to report back about different strains.
