I'm assuming a lot of us here have used Pandora Radio. Though it does a good job of giving you similar artists, it is very limited when it comes to variety. I've heard many songs multiple times on that site, among other radio's like it. I don't blame us for wanting to use something like Pandora, who wants to look up a song every five minutes or so?

But here are a few groups to check out:

Trip Hop- Sneaker Pimps, Portis Head, Morcheeba, Massive Attack

Art Rock- Tool, A Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Nails

I'll think of more and add..

I like your trip hop choices - my fave Portishead is "Third."
8tracks | Handcrafted internet radio -

You might like this because instead of a computer selecting complementary music, listeners create playlists -
I think this is more fun than Pandora.

Old-School radio show recording. Bill Cosby based his Chicken Heart skit on this!

when i was young i saw Yes Songs at a midnight movie. everyone was getting stoned, and i couldn't help but think that Jon Anderson was so straight that he had some disdain for ME, sitting in a theater all stoned.

Anyway, that was a long time ago, and seeing them do this Live show from 2004, they all seem a whole LOT more accessible, and powerful enought musicians that they can tool around their own hits pretty well...

I was going to post a song of a guy who plays Beatles covers on ukelele masterfully, but this wins

i see old groups doing these videos sometimes, and end up skipping through some of the songs, but only skipped through part of one on this. tho, i was tempted to skip thru the first song, i was like, WTF?? but figure they've done other stuff since the old days, i don't mind hearing some of it...

VW,

Thanks that was amazing. I saw Yes the first time 9/1978. I had balcony seats at the International Amphitheatre and the same lineup was playing in the round. The morning of the show I wrecked my knee playing flag football. The venue had no service elevator and that was my first time on crutches. A good thing I saved a golf ball size, hard as a rock bud of the gold of 1978 for the show. That is still one of my atf shows.

The uke player I am pretty sure is Jake Shimabukuro. He is considered to be the best there ever was on uke. A couple of years ago he toured with Jimmy Buffett.

Here is some Jake anyways....

Star Spangled Banner, everyone stand please.

i thoroughly enjoyed the accordian bits, so am glad Jake got added too.

yes in concert must have been something, sorry it involved physical trauma!

in 1987 I tried to quit smoking cigarettes, and driving home I heard a song that seemed to perfectly match the anxiety and anger i was feeling...it was Industrial music, and is still a love of mine...

some samples on Industrial Dance...

Skinny Puppy - Goneja

Skinny Puppy - Addiction

Einstrzende Neubauten - Z.N.S

Einstrzende Neubauten - Haus der Lge

I think you can easily understand the vibe is good for mad times, like trying to quit smoking - it was a style of music that was very popular with young engineers at the time (mid-90's) as some imagined it matched an angst undercurrent at the time. It was also a style of music known to embrace social and political issues. I don't know.

Einsturzende Neubauten translates to collapsing new buildings i believe.
