converting thc to cbn

hi , im interested in finding out how to convert thc to cbn . been googling and finding the standard info about leaving it in the sun and air . and how aged cannabis has more cbn just from the natural degradation process .

but im interested if anyone here might have anymore detailed info then i have been able to find so far .

im wondering if there is a way to do this with the oven or one of the decarb machines .

also i have some old samples around 2 years old but it has been stored in mason jars with boveda 62 packs .im wondering how much thc could have possibly been converted in two years time but stored in dark place .
and just how fast this process could be if i tried just putting a jar in the window . anybody have any idea how long for maximum cbn ?

I would suggest you make canna-coconut oil and use several heat and freeze cycles. That should break down THC to cbd.

You can test after a couple of heat-freeze cycles to see when it turns sleepy enough.

FYI, I have had good results sleep-wise using Indica and CBD together.

thanks for the reply sickman , i looking more for vapeable or smokeable rather then edible . i have tried the edible approach a couple times, but im not a fan of the unpredictability of edibles .

also have tons of experience with a lots of cbd strains , and making salads of different indica sativa mixes and cbd thc mixes . i have found some work great , and some not soo much . im interested in cbn though now after doing some reading .

i just got off the phone with tweed to ask if they tested for cbn or thcv or any other canabiniods sadly they only test for thc and cbd .

cbn being a degradation of thc im not surprised most people probably would not be interested in this , and most would regard it as something to avoid . but im interested in it for its possible sleeping and anti anxiety qualities .

@chris 71 I bet ABV is pretty high in CBN, not that I would touch it myself :D Dumpster diving right @ataxian ???

lol , hey that might be worth a try ;) i do have lots of that . i could just try mixing it with fresh stuff to hopefully add some cbn . it would be nice to know for sure though if and how much is in there.

i found a video on youtube with a couple guys smoking what was supposed to be cbn oil . i hope this stuff might become more available i would defiantly try it

Shame that it's not in stock, but it was in stock not long ago. I was thinking about pulling the trigger on it, but then saw some reviews that turned me off somewhat.

I’m quite fimilar with what you are looking for.

It’s most effective to do this while finishing and curing the herb but it can be done after. Sunlight is a blunt instrument. Easy to over do. I’d stick with a warm (~75*F) dark space with some ventilation. Put the herb in a open paper bag sitting on its side (needs to breathe) and let it sit there. Keep the humidity below 50%

When ~75% of the glans are medium amber it’s ready.

Yes and for me personally cbn is entirely undesirable. I just don't need those sleepy, lethargic effects, with little to no real perceivable high. I do cook my abv into coconut oil. The abv itself is from organic weed so not nasty like chem abv can be. Not exactly appealing but in coconut oil it is still damned delicious.
Trust me dude, as a condiment on your favourite food, it opens up doors of orgasmic flavour that non-cannabis cooks can only dream about. Spread over a simple piece of baked or roasted sweet potato is the most delicious thing I ever have eaten.

But I only really use the abv edibles as a digestive and bowel aid. Still does wonders there, just don't like the balance of the buzz, so heavily leaned towards cbn and other high temp sedative compounds left over. Small amount of thc.

Hi Chris hoping you are well today. Juat to say that as somebody did mention above, the besy way to get a higher level of cbn is by timing the actual harvest, and then the cure process can further aid the conversion depending on how performed.

I know less about this, but I know for sure that letting plants run right to the end of the harvest window (or beyond), basically until most trichomes are amber, is the best way for high cbn levels.

I know this because we have harvested too late before and the effect was not my favourite due to too many amber trichomes. I prefer thc any day of the week.
But I understand your reasons for gravitatting towards cbn, I read your story through the break thread last year and the difficulties you had with anxiety.

I know you are looking for a more immediate solution for now, but in case there is ever a late harvesting opportunity, just somethinf to keep in mind.

Im not sure I am convinced the cbn is the answer you are lookong for. I wish I had some good ideas to help you with your anxiety, but widhing you the best bro.

@chris 71 I still think the oven is your friend.

I would say to heat your medicine in small amounts keep records and see what works best.

I am suggesting starting with a regular decarb of 240F for 40 minutes. Then increase the heat/time until you dial in the right "decarb"(for want of a better word) so the herb has more CBN.

Do you only have trouble falling asleep and/or staying asleep? If staying asleep is a problem you may need to use edibles and vape.

Alexis , thanks man . my anxiety is a much , much better then when i wrote in that thread . im positive it was my other medical condition that was the root cause of that , and taking the stupid t break in the first place lol as cannabis was helping with that condition . but still have issues a bit.
im just interested in experimenting to see how cbn might work .

sickmanfraud , i think your right i will probably decarb a small sample way past the thca to thc convergence right to the cbn and try it out . sleeping has always been an issue for me im such a light sleeper also .
i wake up to the slightest noise or disturbance and sometimes have a hard time going back to sleep . i read soo much about people writing how cannabis helps them sleep . i cant say as it really has ever helped me in that sense . other then to stop some bad dreaming which is helpful .

the biggest reason for me wanting to try it was this little snip bit , i found while googling

" CBN’s most pronounced, characterizing attribute is its sedative effect, and according to our friends at Steep Hill Labs, 5mg of CBN is as effective as 10mg dose of diazepam "

if this is true , which im not so sure i believe it is . it could be such a useful and helpful medication it could really help me out a lot .

i have been taking benzos for years for my mental health problems . and its about the only thing i really want to take. the docs always want to try and get me to take other meds like ssri anti psychotics and that type of thing . but i just cant swallow them . the risks of unwanted side effects and there consequences just are not worth it for me . and i have experienced many side effects from the ones i have tried crazy stuff i dont even want to mention . but ya

i am currently almost off the benzos as well i only take a tiny dose .125 clonazapam thats a . 5 mg pill broken into 4 pieces of which i only take one piece once a day . and i miss a day here and there .

i would take more but the way our whole medical system is going with the fear of addition . and the protocol of doctors to get people off benzo and switch them to the other types of meds i mentioned . has me in fear of being addicted to those and then one day being cut off . which i have read stories of happening . i would hate to be in that situation .

anyway if cbn really does work like a benzo that would be incredible . but i kind off doubt it . but want to try it would be a natural non addictive and much less dangerous and damaging medication

After Decarboyxlation you could make a vented light box using a reptile UV lamp. This would be a slower degradation process but with more control.
