Convection friendly weed

Lately I got some weed that was claimed to be strong (by a smoker), but I felt almost nothing using my daily drivers Anvil and Solo 3. I love these devices for their conduction part, which I need to get satisfied. But with this particular strain they didn’t do much for me.

Today I tried the same stuff in my Tempest and TM2. Usually these devices don’t satisfy me enough due to their lack of conduction. But with this particular strain they seem to make me higher than my hybrid devices. That’s weird, isn’t it? Has anyone experienced similar behavior of seemingly weak weed that needs a different heating method to work?

Is your strain dense or fluffy? Conduction needs good surface to surface contact to conduct the heat and roast the load, while convection needs space for the hot air to pass and extract the actives.

So if it was super fluffy, maybe you just weren’t getting the best extraction via conduction.

Have you tried grinding the herb a bit finer and giving the bowl a tamp? That should help with conduction.

It’s neither very dense or fluffy, just normal medium dense buds. I tried fine to coarse to unground nugs, that doesn’t change the potency. I get decent clouds, just lacking of effect when using my trustworthy hybrid devices. Maybe the strain is just crap. But that doesn’t explain why it seems to work better with convection heavy devices 🤷

The only thing I can think of, if all other variables are roughly the same - bowl size, type of grind, maybe even the time of day you're vaping... is that conduction can suppress terpenes in some instances. Long heat soaks or really high temps can mute terpenes and maybe reduce the entourage effect they have on your perception of the overall high.

I would try vaping the same bud in the S3 for example and try 3min at 175C, then 3min at 185C then finish it off at 220C and see if there's a difference. The temp-stepping should help preserve the terps more and see if the high is better. 🤷‍♂️

Hmm, this may be. Although this weed smells good, there’s almost no taste. My other theory is that this really is weak. I have a wpa for the TM2 that holds a lot of herb. This paired with its fast extraction might just do the trick of squeezing out that little THC.

Is there any reclaim in your TM or tempest stem ?
Unfortunately not. This would have been a good explanation for sure.

Do remember to draw slowly, especially with convection vaporizers, as drawing more room temp air will lower the oven temp.

Yeah, I’m aware of that effect, tried it all. Turned out my combusting friend got handed weak weed without realizing it. To me that stuff worked more like CBD, just making me a little tired. So I did the test and handed him some CBD weed, claiming it’s good stuff - and he liked it 🤷‍♂️

I got better weed afterwards, since then everything worked as expected again. Idk what has happened. Maybe CBD prefers convection, maybe my perception of this little to nothing effects was wrong, I have no idea. But it was interesting to see the placebo effect working.
