I've tried several times qwet and bho can't seem to get it to burn away clean. Maybe I'm breaking it up to much. I'm not grinding but using my fingers to break it up into green pea sized pieces maybe a little bigger.
I recently got the ss screens that 2clicker recommended (btw excellent customer service from clickers link) and was hoping they were going to make the difference. Definitely better than using coffee filters but didn't fix my problem.
Freezing my materials and ethanol for a day. Then doing a 3 min soak with a little shake every minute. Then filtering through the screens and evaping between 100 and 110 degrees.
It does come out a pretty transparent shatter but leaves a black residue behind on the foil.
Any suggestions?
P.S. Happy 420 everybody
sounds about perfect to me. not sure whats up. how close are you holding the flame to the foil? i found i was burning the oil when doing a "foil test" i backed off the flame a bit and then it didnt leave anything behind.
I was putting the flame close to the foil. Now trying it further away and not getting a black residue anymore but i do get a brown stain left behind. Is that normal? It looks a lot better than it did with the flame up close.
Hey man, my delayed start is being fulfilled tonight! I am doing my first QWET run with the most trich covered fresh buds I have ever seen in my life. Even the trim on this stuff have trichs caked thick on them! *drools*how much trim are you working with? would it even take a whole $30 bottle?
and if you have used QWISO then you have used shatter/honey oil/wax. QWISO will make those forms of oil. QWISO is not the same or similar to bubble or keif. QWISO (quick wash iso) is just like QWET (quick wash ethanol) except it is extracted using a dif solvent. both will make oils of dif forms (shatter, wax, etc). no solvents are used to extract bubble and keif.
I find that white fluid often too. I was under the impression that it was water contamination. Either from the 5% of everclear that is not ethanol, or from the condensate created when exposing the ice cold liquid/collection dish to warm air...or quite possibly both. When I warm my dish it does appear to mix up real well. Maybe ethanol extracts more polar molecules than thought?....I guess that's why these shorter washes are better? So I made a fine Keif QWETH after reading up, all went well until ..
Letting Evap over night and found it sitting with a white fluid on top .... shocked I called for help from Forum members and got it (THANKS)!
Turned out to be waxes, seperated from the evap and cold (had it sitting in rather cold), in room temperature it mixed back up.
Nevertheless Purged more and now have a 1A homemade product!
Thanks FC

My theory on this is that it isn't the plant waxes so much as it is the terpenes and flavonoids which are water soluble. Once the alcohol evaporates you're left with the remaining water which holds whatever remains. Stuff smells more than the oil IME but I don't remove it or anything, just let everything evaporate. So I made a fine Keif QWETH after reading up, all went well until ..

So I picked up all the materials needed and tried this out. I think I got decent results. I used a quarter of improperly trimmed flowers that weren't the best. I yielded .7 combined from 2 runs. Now, I have no experience with concentrates prior to this, the oil is dark brownish, if its stretched out its somewhat translucent. It doesn't taste that good but that could be because of the buds I chose weren't of the highest quality, it kicks though. Over all I'm pretty happy, thanks for all the info on this thread, never thought that I would be able to make this stuff with a little everclear and a freezer.
