Choosing a portable! Would really appreciate the help

Hello gang!

I'm a lifelong crohn's disease patient and have been vaping for three years now (on and off) and been a long time follower of this forum, but only recently joined the community.

I('ve) own(ed) an MFLB, GPEN, EasyVape, VG, Omi, and VaporBlunt.
My favorite of the bunch being the VB, it had the most consistent actual vapor production, as opposed to slightly or totally scorching my herb *looking at you EasyVape*, but was stolen from me 6 months back.

Finally with a new job starting, I want to set a goal for myself, and that being a new vape!
That being said, I've been out of the game for a bit, done a lot of searching through these forums but cant seem to make a match for me - could be my own indecisiveness or just that I have too many options bundled in my head.

I'm looking for something that has portability - i can charge it and take it on the go.
Looking also for dual function of dry herbs and oils/concentrates for i dabble in for frequently.

Lastly, and this is the more difficult part, I'm looking for something that wont wear down my throat/vocal chords. I am a professional classical/operatic singer, currently using my voice for many hours on a daily basis. I know the obvious choice would to turn to edibles, but my body doesn't absorb nutrients well at all, its landed me in the hospital more than I'd like to state, and therefore i get minimal affect for edibles...if anything at all. So vapor is where im at!

So in summation,
Portability
Dual Purpose
Non-throat wrecker

I have taken a look at the "Things to consider.." thread before posting this, in case that were to be suggested by vets or mods here, and still feel like I need to turn to the community for advice.

I thank ya'll for taking the time to read through and hope that this kinda post is welcome in the ask section =)

Sincerely,

4DaCrohns

PS

please feel free to ignore my sig at the bottom proclaiming my wishlist! I want this to be based purely on ya'll experiences and opinions! Merci!

Inhalator, the Solo, or the Da Vinci, but if your throat is an issue I'd also throw in a VHL Hydratube or the Pinnacle water pipe as well.
Best of luck bro!

Perhaps the Cera would suit your needs. It has interchangeable herb and essential oil/concentrate cartridges. It isnt cheap, though, and the consensus seems to be that the EO cartridge works better. You could buy it with the EO cartridge first, then get the herb cart if you want. It also has an ecig cartridge. Thermovape claims it is designed to stringent medical requirements to keep the vapor as healthy as possible. It has a pretty positive following in the portables section.

Thanks for the reply hoptimum, I like the vape and its premise a lot but sadly Out of my price range =/

Adobewan , now i had no idea the pinnacle had a water pipe attacment, mus do some research! And what is the VHL hydratube for?

PS Feel free, all who read this, to throw in anymore suggestions you may have! Going to do a lot of research before purchasing so any addition helps!

Thats a shame, it sounds perfect for your needs and I like the modular design. Its too bad the Cera is so expensive. I almost bought a used cera last week, but the cartridge was for ecigs. I probably would have bought it if it had either of the other cartridges. I might suggest the cheaper Solo, but its really better suited for flowers than concentrates. Its a pretty smooth, albeit restricted draw, which could be good for you, and has good battery life.

I'd say VaporBlunt 2.0. Not sure of your budget, but maybe start without the water attachment and add that later.

Edit: I see it's already on your wish list. Is it the price that's stopping you? It seems to meet your criteria. I also agree with the Solo suggestion. I think some people have adapted it for oils, so maybe that's something to look into (and you can gong a water pipe onto it too later).

Actually it fits well in my budget. I was thinking of going with that plan of me getting the vape first and then the tube later. the VB2.0 looks awesome, and the fact it can do oils and herb is very enticing. That may be the one I go with. I've heard a lot of people have trouble with parts breaking or things generally not functioning 100%. Do you hve the VB2.0? Would love to hear your experience with it :3

Pinnacle Water Attachment

Vapexhale Hydratubes
http://www.vapexhale.com/collections/hydratubes
Hydratubes are waterpipes that have a 18mm female on the bottom so, not only do they seat on top of The Cloud, they work with the Underdog, the Solo, the Hot Pod, as well as others I imagine.

Oh wow! Thats really sick! Thanks so much for the links, I love how the hydra tubes can be placed o multiple vaporizers...its making the VB2.0 setup look even more economical.

I probably will start with a budget of $150 and slightly over. I know that means i cant buy things like hydratubes or upgrade kits (i.e, FVS2) right away, but I can work towards it! Thanks again for all the suggestions so far

I had one at my disposal for awhile, but not currently. Not a big cloud device, but adequate and it medicates nicely. Oil attachment works well. Seems to be a solid machine except for what I hear about the stir cap melting. Maybe those people are vaping at the 4 & 5 heat settings (which is really meant for oils)? Nice long battery life. Really more of an all-around deal than the Pinnacle from what I can tell, but a little bulkier due to to the extra battery capacity. You can also use it with the charger unlike many vapes.

Hmm, well having not giant clouds might be a good thing, less chance of going into a coughing fit or having too much dry heat and damaging the vocal chords. However, what could you compare the VB2.0 clouds to? I'm hoping at least more than my MFLB.

Good info so far ya'll! :)

If you are dead set on getting a device that does both oils and flowers, then IMO you will have to settle for something that excels in neither.

The VB2 has a rather gimmicky oil rig that almost seems like an afterthought that was thrown in at the last minute TBH. The vapor is denser than the MFLB to be sure, but I found it to be rather harsh.

The Cera is a very well made device that excels with oils, but I wouldn't recommend it for flowers.

My advice is to choose between a flower unit and an oil unit and get something that can reliably medicate well. Otherwise you'll be compromising IMHO.

Good luck!

I wouldn't argue with the gimmicky comment, but it did work well during my limited experience. The oil straw takes a little practice and requires some lifting to get good airflow, so that was a little gimmicky I suppose. I haven't tried the Cera so I can't say how it's better for oils, but it does have a good rep (although you said earlier you can't afford it).

I'm not a big oil guy, so if that is a main focus then Stu's advice may be appropriate for you. I suggest maybe posting in the VB2 forum a question about pros and coins of using oils with it. I know there are some there that love it for that, but they, like me, may never have been exposed to a more high-line oil rig.

I had no problem with the VB2 vapor, but it's not as tasty or thick as with the Solo, for example. It was thicker than my Firewood, but also not as tasty. It certainly didn't taste bad to me, but I'm not a big connoisseur of that. I vape for the effect and unless there is a noticeably bad taste, I'm not too fussed. I thought the end-result effect was very satisfying, but seemed more head than body compared to some other vapes I've tried (however, that could be down to variables that with more use I could have adjusted).

There is the Ascent coming out BUT no one knows how harsh it is, or how well it works, its beyond your budget a little, and we really don't have much to go on yet, but it looks promising . . . :)

I haven't tried the newest portable vapes on the market, but I have extensive usage with the Solo and Planet Vape's PVHES stems, they have great air flow. It's mainly a flower device, but wrap your concentrates in a cotton swab and put it in the bowl, you're on your way to getting medicated!

Thanks for shootin' some info my way!

It seems to be the case where dual function vaporizers lack in one area or another...
However, financially, getting a vape that can do both to at least respectable degree will suit my situation =)
In addition, from what i've now read in the forum, although it has its issues...its a generally liked piece. Not the top of the line, but above average. Also, a lot of talk how its better for oils than dry herb, but It gets the job done both ways.

Also, I know you already recommended the Cera for oils, but do you have any other suggestions? Contradicting my self now and am asking for dedicated pieces (specifically flower) that meet the other criteria....just in case I change my mind on the way I'm going about things.

thanks again for the input!

I took a stroll into the VB forum and looked at all the comparisons to oil vs dry herb
A lot are looking for towards it being a oil piece, but inversely some swear its better for herb.
Meh  it looks like its a coin-toss-type-vape, you'll most likely enjoy the piece...but only on one side of the spectrum. Interesting :hmm: Still lots to consider.

I've had a few oil rigs, oil bubs, oil vape pen, and a oil pipe...all of which were pretty harsh (apart from the vape pen...and sadly, because it was a g pen, started melting plastic all the time -_______________-). That being said, does the DLX work while the unit is using oils too? Or only the straw? In the oil vs herb arena, were there distinct vapor differences (i.e, cloud size, taste, harshness?)

I do appreciate a good tasting vapor...but like you I wont be to fussy about it as long it doesn't have a negative taste, plastic tasting or situations like that. Also interesting how it's more of a head than body affect. In general thats been my experience with my vapes, varying of course depending on material used, but I'd love to hear some info on vapes that offer more body than head affect. Thats not something I get to hear disscuseed a lot.

Thanks again for yours and everyones contributions to this thread! Its nice to feel so welcomed to FC :)

Oh my god...I want this soooooooo badly. It has such huge clouds (although using an MFLB will make most other vape clouds look ginormous) I love how sleek it is! Dual purpose, easily portable, long battery life...ahhhh. If the price wasn't so high id jump on this guy. Although $250 isnt that high for what looks like an amazing vape. Curious to its release date, couldn't find it snooping around the website, but I am definitely keeping an eye out.

Okay ya'll,

I've had a couple PM's going more in depth about which vape I should choose...and I gotta say I'm now leaning towards the Solo as my unit f choice.
I can get it for near $150 and sits well in my ist of needs

However one last comparison I'm gonna ask you guys for help with.

The FVS2 vs SOLO !!!

Both do concentrates
Both portable
Vapor harshness (unknown)

No asking for you guys to do all the work, I've done my research on both, just some personal anecdotes or opinions are always nice to have !

Thanks!! :peace:

The FV has more of a learning curve, IMO, and will combust if you're not careful. The Solo is easy to use, relatively maintenance free and will not combust. Just my opinion. Check out ebay for low prices on Solos

The VB2 DLX hydrotube cannot be used with the oil attachment, at least not without some special rigging (anything's possible I suppose).

Generally I get more head than body high from battery units that can't roast as fast and deep as higher power sources like fire. It's not that a torch vape like the Hammer isn't head friendly also, bit the high from it is more all-encompassing IMO from fast release of a wider spectrum of cannabinoids.

I think if this is your primary vape and you're comfortable with some of the gyrations you have to go through for oils, then the Solo is an excellent choice (especially for the money!). The Solo is always a safe choice and may be my choice also if I were in your shoes.

Solo is an excellent choice, no learning curve and very easy to use. It works well with oils using either a cotton ball or a dram bottle and tube doing micro dabs. You said you are interested in body over head high which the solo is capable of with its max temp of 410 but it does get harsh at that temp so I would recommend a small bubbler to go with it.
the best part is the price, you can get a solo AND the $40 vapor bubbler at pipesdaddy for less than some of the other vapes mentioned

I think running the Solo through a bubbler takes it to another dimension

The consensus seems to be that a bubb/bong go great with the solo!

Gosh, now i gotta get the wooden stem AND a bubbler to go with it :lol::lol:

Question for clouded vision, how does that bubbler work? I went and found the one you were talking about ( http://www.pipesdaddy.com/product-p/vp-0022.htm ) But I dont get what separates its from a regular bubbler...minus the odd glass attachment. In addition, how does that attachment even function? Would a GonG adapter be better? Am I asking to many questions? (maybe -___-)
