Discontinued Chewy 2.0 Portable Electric Grinder

I got one of these last week and have been using it ever since. It didn't take but a minute for me to get used to not handling my bud between the grinder and vape...instant love.

Unfortunately, I haven't been testing anything with a normal bowl...just small stuff like vapcaps. But even with those I prefer to grind it in the Chewy and then suck it out through the vapcap, log vape style.

I'm sure I'll find shortcomings over time, but out of the box it's an instant hit for me. I stick a bud in there in the afternoon and spend the rest of the night using it to spit herb into all the vapes I use.

When I first saw this thing it felt gimmicky and like something I would have no use for. Instead I'm using it every day...what else can I say?

Got mine too!

This is an awesome tool and it makes the job done. The grind is perfect for me.

Although there is some small issues:
- the spring doesn't seems strong enough to push the entire load, I always get the last gram (or so) in the unit and it doesn't grind it except if I add more weed...
- the noise is pretty loud
- grinding speed, it take some time to grind a large bowl
- it was difficult to find enough place for the battery and the wires in the battery compartment

Finally I have a question, is the handle for the spring is normally loose while the grinder is loaded?

I'm very happy with this grinder but I would love to see a third version, quiet and faster to operate. Why not a mechanical version without battery but using the same idea ...?

@PPN very happy you like Chewy.

i'll try and answer your questions as best I can.

- the spring and strap stops the push block a distance of about 1-2mm from the blade so that the blade does not hit the push block face. Basiaclly we didnt want the blade hitting the push block and scrapping plasitc into you herb or casing damage.
Tip: If you have a little herb left inside. To get it out flick the handle/trigger in quick sucssesion. That should knok the herb into the blades and out. you can do this with the funnel mouth facing up or down which ever you find easiest.

- Can't help you with the noise. Its a small geared motor. Its not that loud though is it? I would say it is similar to an electric tooth brush.

- Speed. Chewy was never meant to be fast for a number of reasons. The first being the faster you go the more the herb turns to dust and knocks off the trichomes. If you grind slowly it keeps the trichomes intact and where they should be. Second if you go fast you loose torque. So the small motor simply wouldnt cut the herb, it would jam. We would need to put a bigger motor in and make Chewy twise the size. If demand is there we might consider it. Third you can easyily control the output of herb so you don't loose any weed to the weed god. If you take into concideration the steps you go through grinding the normal way (Twisting, dump onto table, fill container, then fill bowl). Chewy is just as quick and less messy.

- Everything fits and works but Yes I agree the wires are a little tight, we will imporve the battery connector wires.

- yes the handle is meant to be loose. It makes it easier to cock back the trigger and is for the reason I mentioned above. It is so you can flick the trigger in quick sucession. If we had the trigger/handle lock when we release the spring you would not be able to flick it. Flicking is quite usfull, it can knock out herb that gets stuck in the funnel. If your unit is getting a little gummed up you can flick the trigger in quick sucession which will free it up, self cleaning if you will. If you are grinding sticky icky flicking the trigger helps it along.

We listen to our customers and are always improving. Great minds think alike ;) We have already designed a mechaniacl version just need to sell a few Chewys and Chubes first

@PPN I was doing some testing today and notice some triggers are a little more loose than others. You can adjust this by tightening or loosening the screws on the side of the unit. In your case you would need to tighten the screws a little to the desired stiffness. You will need a small torques screw to do this.

Thanks for your replies @Splat

Still not find the perfect curing for my weed.... please guys, could you share what works the best for you?

edit: the battery I put in was already used maybe that's cause of my little issues... I need to buy a brand new.

Its the drying part, you want it to be like hours away from "snapping stems" but nearly soft enough to bend

I find it much easier to finish the last days (1-4) in a closet brown paper bag, then when it goes into the jars to hit 60-65% Ro

Also when you jar it and the Ro raises in a hour to 60 instead of couple of them then it's still to moist

You want it evenly moist so it sweats slowly in the jar

So if it raises really fast then just return it to paper bag and wait 12 hours

But it's easy to over dry it also so it cures badly

Curing is really the hardest part of this

Edit: also sorry but no time I post is accurate because every bud is different

Fluffy air vs dense nugs

I had the same issue, and I think the super cold air in the airplane perhaps kills the battery? A brand new battery made a massive difference in performance for me. @Splat I hope you don't have any shipping issues that are the result of including batteries? May not be worth it, cost and hassle IMO. With that said, i'm still on my first battery!

I do share similar issues with you though, my biggest gripe being no grind coming out, and having to open, push, fiddle, and try again.... but if I load up enough and jam it into the blades hard enough it doesn't seem to be an issue until the very end. The sound is somewhat annoying, but in the right time and place a non-issue, but for someone that grinds a lot, it could irritate your spouse significantly!

I very much look forward to a manual chewy, as I still love crank style grinders!

Battery wasn't included in mine.. I read PPNs post as he provided his own used battery.

I think a manual chewy is counterproductive these products even the Chube seem oriented to help out people with hand issues. I loved my SCS but recently cut the top layer of skin on four of my fingers and couldn't bear to use it because of the pain. Even still I've personally had issues getting grinders to start their initial turn which has really ended up with a lot of hand pains.

Still not find the perfect curing for my weed....
I hang the bud until just about dry, Then I cut off the flowers.... and trim them.
I leave them out in an open box for a few days, then put them in mason jars.
I open the mason jars for 10 minutes a day, and re-close them.
I do this until the nugs are hard and solid.
I then consider it to have a basic cure and leave it alone.... it lasts for years this way.
If there is any "life" (bend) left in the buds, I leave them out for 1/2 hour before grind time.
I never add humidity, boveda packs or anything similar.
I keep it dry.
If I were a smoker, I might use Boveda packs.
Again.. I have meds cured this way.... hard and bone dry that still have retained their potency for 6 years!

Yes that's what I want to say.

@Vitolo and @Hjalmark I appreciate your recommandations although I spoke about the perfect cure for the Chewy2...

That's exactly my issue, it happens to work well half of the time at max now, at first it was working better and grind was coarser, now I have the same issues than @biohacker , grind is finer and I need 10s to grind a log bowl sized load. Blades are covered of kief/trichs.
I'm convinced my battery is too old so I'll come back here with a brand new battery to report if it was the causes of my issues... I hope cause I really want it to work!

Yes, you are correct. I did receive a duracell with mine, but perhaps after feedback to @Splat about it, he changed his shipping practices?

A manual Chewy IS in the works AFAIK. Crank style grinders make a massive difference for me vs conventional turn, and that includes that initial turn (as long as you don't go overboard with loading). I think it would be a fantastic alternative to the Chewy 2 IMO.

Did you use a brush to clean it all out? @Splat also mentioned the use of coconut oil so things move more smoothly, although I haven't tried it myself yet. Looking forward to hearing your feedback after the new battery.

@PPN pretty sure either method will work fine for the chewy but scientifically I have no idea

I would need to get the chewy first.

@PPN out of the box Chewy is not lubricated. I wanted to leave that to the end user so that they can lubricate or clean it with somthing they are comforable with. My recommendation is organic coconut oil.

By the sounds of it your herb has alot of pollen in it. Blades are covers you said. That tells me that its also on the sleeve and the underside of the push block. That would cause the push block (the black moving part that pushs the herb into the blades) to not move freely or stick a little. That would stop the full force of the spring acting on the herb. You can tell this if it seems like it is stiff when you pull the block back. Cleaning or seasening with the cocnut oil will fix this and actually make the unit work better than out of the box and you dont have to clean it as often after seaening.

I will PM you some videos

I sent Biohacker a battery but after the his was depleted of enrgey I stopped.

I need herb to be very dry before hand grinding or it turns into a stringy, sticky mess. Sixty percent is way too moist in the vape world. I clean grinders with a toothbrush almost every load which keeps blade tips exposed nicely. I would expect regular cleaning will be needed with the Chewy 2 too. Some strains retain trichs better through the grinding process also.

OK, here's my review:

The innovative Chewy 2 electric Grinder has become me-&-my-vapes’ best friend. Still healing from a broken wrist and rotator cuff problems, I don’t miss twisting and turning a conventional grinder.

Running on one 18650 battery, the device has a cylindrical blade arrangement that can turn both clockwise and counterclockwise to grind your herb, which is held in place in a large deep chamber and pushed against the blade assembly with a spring trigger. The chamber lid closes with a strong magnet, so it also doubles as convenient stash box.

You hold the device directly over the vape chamber, bowl, stem, crucible, etc. of your choice and Chewy 2 slowly (very slowly) grinds and dispenses herb piece by tiny piece. So in effect, it’s a great funnel for tiny bowls. It actually is the only possible way I can load my tiny Firewood 4 capsules without spilling material everywhere.

Personally, the first thing I noticed was that it seemed built for right-handers. Being a lefty, the button placement felt a bit unnatural to me. Just means I have to hold the button with my finger, not the thumb, which was a little awkward at first, but I got used to it. Just like right-handed scissors…but I digress.

This gadget is super streamlined, with a classy silver-grey anodized aluminum finish. Very sleek and tech-y looking. It almost looks like a weird futuristic cellophane tape dispenser at first glance. Nothing about it says “Weed Grinder!:”

Don’t laugh, but the first time I used it, I was already rather medicated. I kept pressing the button, grinding and grinding, but nothing was coming out. Damn! Look at the instructions. Apparently the little plug over the dispensing mechanism was still plugged in. Duhhh…When I opened it, a big blob of unruly herb emerged all over the table. However, it was definitely a nice fluffy vape-appropriate grind. OK, you said you wouldn’t laugh…

By the way, when you pull out the silicone plug/poker to grind and dispense, it even has a tiny little hole to park it in so it doesn’t get lost. Details like that really impressed me. How considerate to include something like that for us.

It took a minute to get used to the spring trigger. Sometimes the last little bit of material gets stuck in the blades. Plug/poker to the rescue! Although the poker is a little too short to easily get into the blade area to clean it out. I’ve taken to just shaking the whole thing out over some paper when it gets stuck. Sometimes when nothing comes out, it seems empty but there is still some stuff trapped in there that can surprise you when you tap on the device. Now I just press the button a second or two at a time repeatedly. It’s very slow but more careful and stuff doesn’t get lost,.

I’ve only had it for a few weeks so it’s hard to tell at this point how long the blade assembly will stay clean and sharp. Well-cured herb doesn’t stick, but the icky might. Time will tell. Perhaps they will sell replacement blade thingys in the future, although I can’t tell if the blade parts come out for cleaning.

Anyway, if you have steady hands and good near vision, holding it and loading a vape is no problem. The button takes very little pressure. On the other hand, if your grip and vision is compromised, it could be frustrating and messy, but that might be true for holding anything.

The Chewy 2 definitely makes the whole process easier. It’s a nice fluffy grind, but be careful because it will also chew up any stems into little pieces, and vaporizers aren’t fond of stems. So try to remove them before loading herbs into the Chewy 2.

The unit I received for review also came with a flashy gold padded soft plastic case. Kind of cheap looking compared to the grinder itself, but it does protect the machine, and seems to be airtight. Opening the velcro on it took a lot more effort than using the grinder.

As for the Chube that was also included, my impression is that it is for much larger quantities than I’ve ever possessed all at once—or loaded into a vape. I also imagine that material would stick to it inside because it is silicone. It’s a clever idea, but It might be geared more for smokers. On the other hand, it doesn’t require any twisting or batteries and might be suitable for carrying a larger amount, say, on a backpacking trip.

All in all, I am pretty darn pleased with the Chewy 2. It does the job and could certainly improve quality of life for many people.

Nice review but there is a mistake, the unit runs on a 9v battery not a 18650.

Woops! So sorry for the error.

Actually that was something I had wanted to mention: inserting the battery was the most difficult part of all. Took a good bit of struggling with the too-short wire on the battery connector thing in a very tight space. I was afraid the wire would break in the process of trying to fit it back into the battery compartment.

The good news is I’m using 9v rechargeables.

Yesterday I cleaned my Chewy2 loading chamber cause the block wasn't moving freely at all, even without weed loaded!

There was some resin/kiefs glued on the floor so the block wasn't able to move... and the grinder was not grinding anything...
After cleaning everything came back right, I'm slightly reluctant to lub it with a drop of coconut oil since I don't want to vape that substance! Maybe my unit was dirty quicker than expected cause the cure is not really ended.... now most of my stash is totally cured but still very moist (stocked in jar with the Boveda's packs 62% since 1 week , if I take it out of the jar, and the weather is dry, it's dry enough to crumble between fingers after 8-10h. I wait this moment now to load the chewy2. For some vaporizers (Inhalaters+glass capsule, vaponic, M) I like to take it direct from the jar, very moist for maximum taste, without any sort of grind (sorry just realized it's off-topic... totally:lol:).
