Cheap High-Quality Supermarket Frozen Pizza?

Being a bachelor by choice (hers, not mine), I am a big fan of the frozen pizza, as it fits in quite nicely with my laziness, my cheapness, my stoner-ism, my alcoholism, and my "occasional" lack of health-consciousness.

I am a particularly big fan of "Bachelor's Delight," which is a combination of frozen pizza, chips, salsa, and alcohol. I traditionally have a variation of this on Valentine's Day.

So... what frozen pizzas do you eat when you're stoned, drunk, lost the will to live, or don't give a fuck anymore?

Sometimes I just watch this video. It's cheaper, and I never get tired of watching that cat DJ.

I remember these things back in the day, in the frozen section of the market. I think they were called Party Pizzas. They tasted horrible, but if you were brokeand tried of Ramen noodles, they did fill a belly. The toppings were minimal. Pepperoni sliced too small to see. Non-existent tomato sauce. Basically cheese on dough. I think they were on sale like 5 pizzas for $3 or so.

I used to work with a guy that was stealing from the company to feed his obsession with hot pockets. I mean, I think this guy ate like ten of them a day. Huge gut on him, and his skin always looked greasy and sweat. We miss your Tommy!

DiGiorno (sp?) are usually pretty good. Not exactly cheap, I think around $7. But they actually taste good. Mostly, because I can't leave ANYTHING in stock form, I will put some ground beef or extra veggies and some more cheese maybe some garlic.

On the embarrassing ones, I have a weakness for Red Baron Breakfast Scrambles pizzas.

I think the worst have to be the "store brand" pizza rolls (any store brand).

The ONLY frozen pizza I really like, the pepperoni is my favorite by far. Cheap at wholesale stores, not so much at grocery stores but totally worth it.

Highly coincidental topic EDA as I'm a divorced father with a teenage daughter living with me.

Sometimes I just don't feel like cooking (and I can cook and bake) so I'll resort to frozen pizza.

I'll stick my neck out and say that they are as good as any cheap pizzeria pizza, like Little Caesar, etc.
$5 at our local IGA, which tends to rip us off.... so they're probably less expensive in the real world.

We'll eat these cardboard crust pizzas on occasion too: http://www.bernatellos.com/brands/roma which are available at the gas station. They're not that great, but cheap @ $2 each.

Before the divorce when we were feeding a family of five I used to make them at home, but for one or two people it's hard to justify the all of the work...especially cleaning up the mess afterwords. By the time you buy all the ingredients, it's costly too.

lately, ive been gettin tony's or jack's. the $2-$3 range is my sweetspot for frozen pizza. i try to limit myself to 2 per week.

Ah yes, now I recall the maker of the infamous Party Pizza. I must have eaten them for quite some time, because I remember that slowly, over time, the number of "pepperonis" became fewer and fewer, until I could count them using both hands. It was the gold standard for cardboard crusts.

Edit: wow this pic is making me ill, thinking about times I pulled the pizza out too soon from the oven and it was soggy and not yet cardboard-like.

Will someone on this thread answer me this? Do I like pizza because I'm a bachelor, or am I a bachelor because I like pizza?

That was half off at my grocery store the other day, which is why I bought it, and why I started this silly thread. Except I chose the Margherita style and added olives....

I still prefer ANY frozen pizza to Pizza Hut...

It was number one selling in my house growing up too. I didn't mind it though because it was cheap what could you expect? What bugged me is Tombstone Pizza with its rubber pepperoni that could be swallowed whole, but could not be chewed through. And molten pools of grease dotting its uneven terrain. Bleh.

Think of it as him being frugal. A gram lasts a month and a pizza lasts eight years.

Naw, it's just that when I passed 60 years old, I became acutely more aware of my mortality and immediately took steps to extend my expiration date. No guarantees here, but I wanted to be as pro-active as I possibly could so diet and exercise soared to the top of my priority list.

But in regards to pizza specifically, if I could just have one slice and leave it there, I'd be good to go but I know that there is no way in hell that I can do that. It's just beyond my control, much like me trying to have just one cigarette or one line of cocaine.

Yes!, the Top Ramen of the frozen pizza (is that even possible?!!!) I've seen it selling for $1 a pie..if you can call it that.

OK now, didn't the OP ask for "high quality" suggestions? I'm not a food snob or anything and cheap frozen pizza does cleanz the palate from time to time, but some things need to be catagorized in a food group all by themselves.

I do find the Kashi 3-mushroom pizza to be actually quite good and fairly healthy, as far as frozen pizza goes...

Still never tried the California Pizza Kitchen ones... they're always ridiculously expensive and so damn tiny.

Supposedly the Home Run Inn ones are pretty good, but I've yet to try one...

For my money, a frozen pizza, or any pizza, is only as good as its crust...

Where did he say 'high quality'? In the category of supermarket pizza, Totino's is a (semi-) solid choice. What are you one of those DiGiorno snobs? Do you own stock in the Frescetta Corp? It's like asking about fast food and then saying 'gross' when someone mentions Taco Bell. It's supermarket pizza! It's not supposed to be tasty.

Remember cardboard crust is fiber. And fiber is your friend.

I don't know about the self loathing part (my wife tells me I have the opposite problem! ) but in our household the goto frozen pizza snack is this:

Manufactured by Kroger but we get them at Ralph's here in SoCal. Only about $5 apiece, 10" wide, exactly 12 slices of thin uncured pepperoni and organic! Not great but decent in a pinch! They also have other organic flavors too.

We also sometimes get organic Trader Joe's pizza.

Actually, one of the worst pizzas I've ever et was a Papa John's Pizza (not the notionally recognized brand, but the one located just a couple of blocks outside off of the MSU campus) They offered a 12" with pepperoni swimming in grease for $5,.... delivered. They delivered Stroh's quarts too (w. one food item required). How awesome is that?. There were regular deliveries of 10+ quarts with one small salad delivered to Armstrong Hall, Brodie Complex in 1985 The >21 YO who picked up the beer got to keep the salad.
