hello
marijuana is one of the only things I find interesting in life. I would love to get a job related to it. unfortunately I am in europe and opportunities for this is very few even though some countries are progressing but very slowly. I am not sure what area of expertise would best best to get into. growing, extractions, testing/analysis etc and I am not sure how I should go about getting educated in the area. Does anyone know any places that offer good education courses around marijuana that could lead to a job down the line?
I am just not sure how I should get into it or if its even possible.

thanks for any advice people can give

I would get a degree in chemistry, agriculture, marketing, or any areas that would be valuable when your country becomes more progressive.

In the states those skills translated into canna jobs. Like most companies the grunt work doesn't pay like the more technical jobs do.

If it becomes legal, all sorts of services are required that might be specialized. While your post seems to want a hands-on approach, you might just choose to train in something generally useful that can be directly applied to the business portion of legalization.

In other words, the world always needs more accountants. There will be special needs for accountants who deal in the cannabis industry. (Need lawyers too. But, there are too many as it is in the U.S. Your country may be different.) Then, you can get your hands dirty without actually getting dirt on your hands.

Im based in ireland. but I would be willing to move to another eu country with a more favourable policy.
there does not seem to be much education opportunities even though there is a couple days course in amsterdam.

I think some of the advice people are giving is based on the fact that many jobs related to this industry require training in a specific field more than with a specific plant.

If for example you wanted to work in a lab that did testing for cannabinoid levels in samples, you’d probably need an organic chemistry degree followed by a little training or research into how to do these particular tests.

If you just want to work in a dispensary or vaporizer shop someday though, maybe just work on your sales ability and general knowledge of the industry and study whatever else you want.

Also, while there is a lot to be interested in in this industry, there are far too many other interesting things in the world to limit your options this much.

If you’re not really into chemistry you probably shouldn’t get a degree in it just hoping that someday there will be a cannabis related chemistry job for you, but you also shouldn’t ignore whatever else you’re good at or somewhat interested in. I often find that once I start researching or working on something there’s a lot more to keep me interested than I expected. :)

I don’t know the laws of every EU country though, so maybe you could get a job you’d love today. I hope so!

I was just thinking, what with yesterday being St. Patrick's Day, that I needed to pay attention and see if there were people from Ireland on FC, and here you are ! What are you good at? Science ? Math ? Horticulture ? What does your dream job look like? Are you with plants, behind a counter, behind a desk?

IIRC the EU allows CBD to be grown/sold with minimal interference.

You may find a place in Ireland that is growing for "legal" use, ie CBD. Even if you need to start out doing "grunt work" you would have your foot in the door while you may study a cannabis-related field of study.

If that does not work out, find a location that has legal cannabis and has job openings.

It is always easier to find better employment while working than expecting to find a dream job while unemployed.
