This often comes up when someone opens up about a condition they have, and asks people here if they know anything, or have similar experience. Labeling it a "medical condition" is in many cases appropriate, but also shows a bias; I believe you have stated elsewhere that you work in the field of healthcare.
I'm big on science, please don't get me wrong, but depending on where you live and exactly who you ask, the medical professionals' advice about the interactions of cannabis in the human body may be sorely uneducated, I would even say ignorant.
And, so, many are relegated to asking their "peers", their friends, etc., if they have similar experience.
I'm not suggesting random clicking around the ol' web, googling ED+Cannabis or such, but I will say there are members whom I've come to "know" for some years here on FC who I would trust to give me a straight story...on their own experiences.
I am indeed a medical professional and provide patient care, although i am NOT a doctor.
ED is in fact a medical condition. I am not labeling it as such, the AMA did. The OP also labeled it as that as well. No bias here, just calling it how it is presented.
As far as giving advice goes, i try not to give any as i am not a doctor, although people do ask me for medical advice from time to time. I tend to give half hearted advice and then request they speak with their doctor. It is not “backslapping” or “virtue signaling” as others have called it, it is what i was trained to do.
To be honest, i dont really care if people want to get medical advice from the internet or not. All i know is if it were me, i would want a professional to give me advice and not random people on the internet. What i need to do is skip these topics all together, keep my mouth shut and let people fail rather than try to have everyone’s best interests at heart.
I am big on science as well. The medical field is ALL about science. Most of our degrees are science based (applied science in my case). Yes, some of patient care is opinion based, but treatments are based on scientific processes. However, choosing a course of treatment is sometimes based on which treatment is better, but that “treatment” is most definitely based on scientific evidence.
Either way, and i am not calling anyone out here, but it is clear some people do not want to hear “you should ask your doctor”, so i will stop saying that and skip these types of discussions, so as not to be accused of “backslapping” or “virtue signaling”. Probably should have realized this after i went out of my way to get scientific information from a colleague of mine for a thread regarding anesthesia that apparently no one wanted in the first place.
Lesson learned. Thank you everyone for the education.
