Not so recent news, been meaning to post it here,

(Nov 13, 2018)
WHO finishes this week its historic review of cannabis

"This week at the headquarters of WHO (World Health Organization) in Geneva (Switzerland), the Expert Committee on Drug Dependence (ECDD) meets to undertake the final part of the scientific review of cannabis, resin, extracts, THC, and CBD extracts [1]. Their outcome is likely to change the scheduling status of cannabis within the international drug control Treaties [2].

WHO never updated its policy on cannabis since 1954 [3] – although THC was identified in 1964 and its mechanisms of action on the human body, in 1994....................

................The outcome of this 41st ECDD meeting will be made public at the United Nations, in Vienna (Austria), on Friday 7th December."

Key UN summit could lead to international rescheduling of cannabis

(06 DEC 2018)

"A crucial milestone for the global industry could be achieved this week, as the World Health Organization (WHO) presents its findings on cannabis to the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) in Vienna.

The CND reconvened its 61st session on Dec. 5.

The WHO’s Expert Committee on Drug Dependence (ECDD) held meetings in June and November dedicated to pre-review and review cannabis and cannabis-related substances............

..................The UN will vote in March 2019 on this week’s recommendations.

The anticipated recommendations could have a quick effect on the global industry."

So, tomorrow we may see the future!

Yeah I've been clinging to dear hope and telling all my friends! I feel like a sheep waiting to be told if it's ok lol. Unfortunately, I've just found an annoying update:

WHO postpones recommendation for rescheduling cannabis at UN summit

The World Health Organization (WHO) postponed its much-anticipated recommendations about the international scheduling of cannabis, citing a need for more time to review its findings.

The recommendations were expected to be released today at the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) 61st reconvened session in Vienna.

Recommendations about several other substances were included in the WHO presentation, but the organization’s spokesperson said they needed more time to complete the evaluation process of its review of cannabis.

No new date was provided for the release. Member states are expected to vote on this issue in March 2019.

I have no doubt that their decision will not be in our favor, and will be solely based on monetary and political viewpoints and not benefits to humans. They will also claim that these are not the reasons for their decision, but it will be. If people really think they will side with cannabis rescheduling then you have more faith in worldwide power than I do.

Cannabis will always be the underdog and we will always have to fight for it. I think the civil disobedience is one of the reasons I love it so much.

Marlboro Maker Places $2.4 Billion Bet On Legal Marijuana

One of the world’s biggest tobacco companies is diving into the cannabis market with a $2.4 billion buy-in. Marlboro maker Altria Group Inc. is taking a 45 percent stake in Cronos Group, the Canadian medical and recreational marijuana provider said Friday.

Altria will pay another $1.4 billion for warrants that if exercised, would give the Altria a 55 percent ownership stake in the Toronto company.

Legalizing pot was supposed to reduce crime, or so advocates argued. The theory was simple: As cannabis buyers beat a path to the nearest dispensary, the black market would dry up, and with it the industry’s criminal element.
that " save the state " scenario only works when states do not try and rape / gouge the people and their finances charging gun point prices for weed like it so happens to cost on the street.
taking already illegal price points and transferring to in store sale costs for state gain is a lost cause... hemp infrastructure will be the Only save for any of our States and the sooner this happens the better

When you read the cascading articles underneath, this seems more of an argument over who is supposed to profit on cannabis rather than a mere hindrance of research from those who oppose it. Those that profit now, don't want the BIG newguys in and the BIG newguys seem to be using the research application as a dodge to obtain grow and dispensary licenses.

Its sooo simple right in there face and they did touch on it in the artical but....

Obviously to even the biggest idiot it should be , if its legal in one place but not another then the black market isnt going anywere they will export it to illegal area . it actully will encourage people to set up shop in legal areas to export ...

Exactamente. I missed this news last week though I had been waiting for it. I've been flummoxed from the beginning as to why these hospitals have been able to, in the name of medical research, make private deals with growers and bypass the licensing process that the rest of the newly opened medical marijuana businesses had to go through. Not that that whole mmj licensing process was filled with righteousness (this is PA, after all). But I'm happy to see this back door process slowed down and hope that the lawsuit mentioned in the article has enough teeth to bite. We're talking about big money. To see well funded out-of-state growers make behind-the-scenes deals with well funded hospitals and bypass the competition other licensed growers in PA had to go through is bs. The arrogance is apparent on both ends, inasmuch as none of the applicants deemed it worth their effort to even file a proper application. Beware big mj. I'm getting all worked up now. Might should take this to the fu thread.

Fuck Civil Disobedience. Been there, done that, have a closet full of tee shirts. I wanna quit looking over my shoulder. We need full legalization TOFUCKINGDAY!!!! Lets get this done. Take it off the schedule here and relax the international prohibitions. It is INSANE that you can walk into a store and buy it some places and in other you can go to jail for life (or many years in the US) for having a joint. INSANE!

Cannabis industry expert: 2018 big, 2019 could bigger for marijuana
(Illinois News Network) — As big as 2018 has been for marijuana, one industry expert said 2019 is likely to be even bigger.

Over the past year, Michigan and Vermont legalized recreational marijuana use, and Utah and Missouri approved medical marijuana programs. And the entire nation of Canada decided to allow people to use cannabis.

David Goldstein, with the cannabis information company Potbotics, said 2018 was a huge year for marijuana. He said 2019 could be even bigger.

“What I would like to see in 2019 is a de-schedulization,” Goldstein said. “From a Schedule One drug that says marijuana has zero health benefits. To either a Schedule Two or a Schedule Three.”

The federal government considers marijuana to be a Schedule One drug, the same category as heroin. Schedule One drugs have “no currently accepted medical use in the United States, a lack of accepted safety for use under medical supervision, and a high potential for abuse,” according to the Drug Enforcement Administration. Many prescription opioids, including some preparations of fentanyl, are classified as Schedule Two controlled substances.

Goldstein said he’d also like to see the Justice Department clarify banking rules for marijuana businesses.

As for the money to be made in states, Goldstein said there is a lot to be made.

Which is good, because leaders in Illinois are eyeing legal marijuana as a way to pay for everything from potholes to pensions.

Illinois’ incoming governor, J.B. Pritzker, has said legal marijuana could pay for new roads, or bridges, or social services. Chicago’s outgoing mayor, Rahm Emanuel, says government-approved-pot could pay for the city’s pension debt.

Goldstein said there might not be that much money, but he said there will be a lot of money to go around.

“When we look at scales up to 2025, expectations are that the U.S. market will be worth about $100 billion worth of cannabis sales,” Goldstein said. “That’s slightly below beer, and just north of coffee.”

Goldstein said the market for legal marijuana will vary from state to state, as will the taxes.

He said states are also looking to see which early legal marijuana state is doing it best, and which is the national model.

I think it should be taken off the schedule completely. It's just a fucking plant, Damnit. It's not a synthesized chemical or drug. It's just a plant that NATURE produced. And nature even gave us receptors SPECIFICALLY FOR IT. Damnit.

That ! I was being nice claiming sched 5 but decrim 100% tomato model is what we are after eventually

I’ve ranted around here on the exact same thing, you are absolutely correct: cannabis needs to be de-scheduled entirely and returned to general use in agriculture, and needs a lifting of penalties for production and use at every level.

It is within the authority of the sitting President to schedule, reschedule, or de-schedule any drug: this was an intentional end-run around Congress. The president could change enforcement policy with a memo in such a case, ordering that no federal agency or personnel enforce cannabis laws, policies, and regulations, nor assist in their enforcement, nor reimburse enforcement efforts.

I am interested to see how the legalization of Hemp farming will affect Schedule I (Which I think this source erroneously reported as being removed) https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/sur...-mcconnell-pushes-farm-bill/story?id=59760327
THIS is the big - really, the ONLY question: what does “hemp” mean? Especially at the time Robert Clarke is pushing a frankly nonsensical redefinition of cannabis taxonomy.....

I have been reading about him and his support of cannabis. Personally I think he is a hack who is in government solely to steal what he can from us all while the robber in chief is in the white house holding open the coffers. The fact that I have no influence or ability to make any kind of difference in this admin doesn't reduce my disgust for Mulveny or any of the other thief's that the president has selected to raid the treasury. After all, birds of a feather and all that..

That being said, a hack who may support legalizing cannabis is still better than one who wouldn't...

Trump Says He is Likely to End the Federal Ban on Marijuana

Following the forced resignation of US Attorney General Jeff Sessions, stock in marijuana rebounded. And now, President Donald Trump says it is likely the psychedelic herb will be decriminalized during his term in office.

He did say this, but it was back in June. And in Politics Timeline, June is the equivalent to about 10 years.
It would be awesome, but I highly doubt Mulveny will be the one to push him along. On the other hand, it could be a good distraction tactic for him. So you never know and like @cybrguy said, better to have an advocate than not.
