Dat heroin...
:zombie:
Heroin is coming back in a big way. People are getting hooked on prescription opiates, then they get cut off, and switching to heroin becomes very natural. I know that when I was quitting morphine sulfate, and going through withdrawals, that had I not been committed to a positive outcome for me and my family and had been cut off involuntarily, this could have been a serious temptation.

H and Meth are slow suicide (and sometimes not so slow). The only upside to legalizing them would be to get the govt involved in getting people off of them, and no matter what else happens, that will not. Joe average republican will never understand why that is necessary and will prevent it. :(

 So many shitty reporters. This guy is no different than the shitty reporters who report anti-pot stories without checking their facts. We need to be careful, lots of misinformation out there. Its not unheard of for researchers to have to disagree with the medias coverage of their own study. Reporters need to be scientifically literate if they want to report on science.

You forgot to add alcohol, tobacco, sugar, to the slow suicide list. I have not heard of high mortality rates of H users in Amsterdam, I don't know if I can put it in the slow death category.

LET ME BE REAL CLEAR: I am not advocating H, nor have I had any desire to try it myself. But I swear in "The Culture High" documentary(there is a thread for that movie somewhere here on FC) a highly regarded Dr who specailized in addictive behavior, said that in countries where H users could get their H from the gov't as well as clean needles, that most of the habitual users lived normal lives. Albeit, an H addiction.

In countries where users did not have access to gov't(or regulated) heroin is where you see the overdoses from who knows what is mixed in the H they get, deaths from the "lifestyle" they are sometimes forced into due to criminal penalties for H. My take on the very little reading I have done on the subject is, take away the criminal penalties, allow for regulated access, and the prostituting, H dealing, overdoses from fuck-knows-what their H dealer mixed in, go down very drastically.

Again, not advocating, but I am certainly not going to believe the same people who STILL lie about cannabis, and try to deny its' legitmacy, to tell the truth(or even know it) about other "bad" drugs.

TL;DR----Enjoy all the great benefits of the new, and improved Cannabis®, and don't do H.
(But if you do, go to a country who will treat you like a patient, not a criminal.):2c:

If you don't believe me on sugar being right up there for slow death, please read, "Chocolate to Morphine: Understanding Mind Active Drugs" before bashing me. Either way, one of the GREATEST books I have had the pleasure to read(its an older book that has been updated for the times).

I've personally observed how certain drugs have little to no transition between 'the first time used' to the 'need to abuse'. H is definitely one of those. Not taking any political stance here. Someone close to me once said 'The first time I did H intravenously it was the warmest, most blissful experience of my entire life and I chased that experience with everything in my being but could never catch it again'. That's all I needed to hear to keep me from going down that road.

Actually opium is a time-honored and useful medicine. Ok it's dangerously addictive but it's just the thing for certain types of pain relief. I don't know why old people go through all sorts of hoops with shitty synthetic pain drugs being handed out grudgingly by a suspicious medical/legal system when this lovely plant is available and cheap. It's a primo high that people should be able to enjoy at the end of their life.

The lawsuit contends: "...the marijuana industry is stinky and attracts unsavory visitors".

What a stupid argument! On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised if, assuming this lawsuit (basically about state vs federal law) and the "neighboring states" lawsuit (mostly about inter-state transport) are settled in favor of Colorado, then this could actually end up paving the way for further legalizations by eliminating these concerns and even end up creating an unintended slingshot effect in favor of legal marijuana. And even if the lawsuit prevails and legal weed shuts down, there's always the trusty black market which has served us well for many decades!

Odd that there hasn't been any lawsuits filed against Washington (that I know of).

Huffington Post reporting:
"Two congressmen filed separate House bills on Friday that together would legalize, regulate and tax marijuana at the federal level, effectively ending the U.S. government's decades long prohibition of the plant.

Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo.) introduced the Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol Act, which would remove marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act's schedules, transfer oversight of the substance from the Drug Enforcement Administration over to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and regulate marijuana in a way similar to how alcohol is currently regulated in the U.S.

Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) introduced the Marijuana Tax Revenue Act, which would set up a federal excise tax for regulated marijuana."

Not exactly "news", but new to me:
Marijuana may help with diabetes
In May 2013, a three-authored study published in The American Journal of Medicine observed that marijuana could play a key role in controlling people's blood sugar levels. The study, which looked at 4,657 people, including both active and former marijuana users, showed that current marijuana users had a 16% reduction in fasting insulin levels and an accompanying 17% drop in HOMA-IR, which measures insulin resistance and beta-cell function. Surprisingly, marijuana users also had slimmer waistlines!

God I fucking LOVE this stuff. The paucity of research meant that the only studies being done were to "prove" all the negatives (mostly imagined) about the "evil weed". Now nearly all the research being done PROVES ITS VALUE!!!

I couldn't have dreamed of a better result. Well, actually I could, but you know what I mean... LOL

I've always wanted to go to Jamaica. They should have everything in place in a year or two. I like that they will honor med mj. certification from the states.

EDIT
We need to start planning an FC meet up in Jamaica when everything is in place.
