Cannabis Gummies

kushkush

happy camper....
I bought a Levo machine which I'll receive in a couple of days. What I'd like to know from those who have made gummies is how do you make a gummy with only 10mg of Cannabis in it? Can someone break down the math for me?

I'm just hoping there's a gummy recipe in the Levo recipe book.... but for now and future reference, I'd love to get some responses from some great cooks.

Did you ever make these gummies? I've been trying to find a reliable recipe online, but no luck.

I've googled plenty, but its always so difficult to figure out which recipes will work and which wont. The recipe reviews are always inconsistent and dont offer mch help there either. Actually it makes it more confusing where one person says it came out like shit and the other person says this is the best recipe ever...

I think I have pretty much everything I need. I wasn't going to do AVB but just normal, fresh decarbed in the oven weed

It's good to know the volume of your gummy molds. Let's say you have a gram of decarbed concentrate at 80% THC. That means it has 800 milligrams (80%x 1000mg) of THC. 1/4 of that gram would be 200 mgs THC. It's just math. divide in 20 equal parts: 10/part.

Let's say you buy 7 grams cannabis @ 15% THC. Decarb in the oven. 7000mg(7 grams) x 15% = 1,050 mgs THC total available that you steep in approx. 84 grams (3 oz) oil and get the total good out of it. Every gram of oil should have 12.5 mg THC

Great info to have. My GF got me a edible cook book for Christmas and they explain in detail how to *estimate* the dosage of your edible infusion, pretty cut and dry formula they give you. Math was never my thing tho

My molds are 1mL gummy bear molds and I believe 2.1mL leaf molds

Many people recommend adding sunflower lecithin to edibles. Sunflower lecithin is an emulsifier which allows oil and water to combine evenly. Oil doesn't float to top. They claim it makes it easier for the body to process: "bioavailability". I add gram for gram. I'm not sure if that's too much, but it hasn't made me too "Sunny".

Perfect... I already have that on the way from amazon haha but I was curious about the ratios! I also didnt know that it helped keep the oil from separating. Also good to know because I saw a few recipe reviews & comments that they had issues with theirs separating but I dont believe the recipe called for Lecithin.

Gram for gram, meaning lecithin to bud or lecithin to oil?

Keeps the oil suspended in water: it emulsifies. Lecithin to THC oil. In the above cannabis example, 1 gram of lecithin (1,000 mg) to 1,050 of THC however you dilute it.

Here is a picture of infused THC concentrate/Honey in tea.

I have a simply method :

1) Use store bought gummies, they have to be the type thats coated in sugar i recommend Sour Patch Kids for good absorbtion
2) I normally use concentrates for easy calculation on the potency, if i add 1 gram of rosin i will expect that to be 650mg thc at 65% potency.
3) Mix 1 gram of decarbed-rosin with 6ml of MCT-oil,
4) This shjould give you a total of 140 drops depending on the size pipette used, 650/140= 4.6 Mg Thc/drop,
5) Align gummies on a parchment lined tray, Use your pipette to distribute 1 drop on each gummy
6) Place the tray in a dust free area and position a clean fan to blow on the tray for about 30min
7) Turn the gummies on the other side and distribute another drop on each gummy and leave with the fan blowing agian for 30min
8) Result should be gummies containing the amount of 9.2Mg Thc/piece .

If you dont have any oils and are going to be using herb then i would guess 4-5 grams would be equal the amount of thc that 1 gram of rosin holds. Depending on the quality on the herb ofcourse.

I use mg per tsp or in the case of the mj leaf molds from amazon they hold 1/2 tsp each. Then it helps to know there is 48 tsp in one cup and 96 1/2 tsp in one cup. From there it's just divide the total mg of marijuana by the number of portions.

I bought these molds off amazon to make gummies with along with everything else I needed to make gummies with. I made one large batch and they molded before they were half gone, lol. Never made another gummy batch.

But I do use those same molds for chocolates. Works great. The chocolates last a long time. I'm a caregiver for a few patients and the chocolates are by far everyone's favorite medible.

You can do this with RSO too, very simple and pretty effective, I go right onto Haribo Bears. Albanese are where it's really at though!

Making homemade gummies as good as store bought definitely takes some practice. I got pretty good at it but I'd make them pretty strong for high tolerance folk and they started getting pretty bad tasting lol. I pretty much only do capsules now for that reason, but I'm getting an itch to throw a batch of gummies together after reading this thread.

Do you do the RSO method or do you have a different way you make them?

Well California only sells Diet Dr. Everclear with the lower proof, so the solubility is not as good as what less "progressive" states allow their populous to legally own.

So for that reason I don't really do RSO. But if you can get the good stuff, no problems. You can make RSO with Diet Dr Clear too, but the solution can't hold as many 'noids as the good juice.

For me, I'm lazy so I just press rosin -> decarb -> infuse into coconut oil and just fill that into gelatin or cellulose capsules. Gummies are water based so I got bored of struggling with emulsifying oil into them when making homemade - it can be done but at higher amounts it's frustrating, affects the texture, and it's simply not a challenge commercial gummy manufacturers face. It depends on what you're making, isolates are ideal for making gummies since you can bypass the oils, but also pharmacologically less complex than other extracts.

I saw a product recently for easily making water soluble edibles though which might be awesome for making gummies. If you were asking about making gummies I make them from scratch based on a combination of a few recipes and techniques. Definitely a learning curve over the simple jello based gummies going around on a lot of blogs. I'll look through my notes app and see if I still have that info saved. I will say it's surprisingly finicky, candy making is a bit of a science, if you boil your sugar to a different temperature it will change the outcome completely. I once tried a cornstarch based candy like a Sour Patch Kid (no gelatin in them so not considered a gummy) and I overcooked the sugar syrup into this unchewable thing somewhere between a chewy candy and a jaw breaker lol.............. talk about a weed waster, tried to salvage it a few times but it shamefully ended up in the trash.

Honestly I didnt think it would be that complicated haha (making gummies from scratch) I googled some stuff and the recipes sounded *relatively* straight forward, but when you get into the details I see where it can get pretty tricky...

I dont have a press and I'm too lazy to do the hair straightener method or otherwise processing flower into a concentrate lol so im gonna go the old faithful route of decarbing flower and infusing something. I think I can get normal everclear here? Not entirely sure to be completely honest but I'm not aware of any restrictions we have here.

I appreciate the help!

Check out https://organicalcohol.com for high proof to CA. From their site "There are no state permit requirements for non-beverage industrial use alcohol in California at this time." Know anyone with a business license?

And there's

And you can even get food grade ethanol from amazon.

I split with another grower on 5 gallons of the 200 proof from extractohol a few years back and still have quite a bit left. I use a distiller and can recover the expensive alcohol.

The State of Oregon sells full-strength Everclear. Washington State sells Everclear Lite.
What do you mean? I just checked and Washington sells 190 proof, which according to Everclear's website is their highest proof in production.

Regarding anhydrous, is it ever worth the extra price given it pulls moisture from the air and quickly reduces in proof?

Are you talking D.C. or Washington State? It must be a recent change. They used to only sell the 151. It's $17 a bottle in Oregon. I live in Washington State, but the Oregon liquor store is only 2 miles away. Washington State has highest liquor tax in the states: Washington ($32.52/gal of spirits) but Oregon is second at ($21.98/gal of spirits)

What States Can You Buy Everclear 190 Proof??

it is illegal to sel
l the 190-proof variety in California, Florida,[3] Hawaii, Iowa,[4] Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota,[5] Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina,[6] [7] Ohio, Washington, West Virginia, and Virginia.

Washington state, since I'm bored I called Bevmo (large chain there) and they have 190 in stock and ready to sell. That website was a terrible place to get accurate information IMO. The change occured when they went from being state run to privately owned which was years ago.

Sorry to OP for getting off topic.

The math for milligram is not so hard. 1000mg of flower with 20% THC in it is: 1000mg x 20% is 200mg. total thc.
Most recipes i see call for 1 cup of oil, 1 cup of flower. But if you don't use a whole cup just try to keep the ration 50% flower/50%oil.
Or for every 1000mg of flower you use about 10 grams of oil, so 3 gram flower is 30 gram oil
So if i take 1 gram flower and 10 gram oil that would be 5 portions of 40mg thc, and if i take 4 portions of 2,5 gram oil i have 50mg thc portions.

My oil method in a nutshell.:
- break down the weed in smaller chunks but dont grind
- decarb the chunks of weed in the oven at 115 celsius / 240 fahrenheit for 35 minutes.
- i put the chunks of weed in a tea glass and add enough oil to cover the herb.
- I put a big pan with water on the stove close to boiling point.
- Inside this big pot of hot water i put a smaller sauce pan with some water
- inside this small sauce pan of water i put my tea glass with herb/oil mixture
- i leave it gently heating up for 3 hours.

You may put a lid on the tea glass and you have to add some hot water if the water in the pan starts to evaporate.
If you want to make oil for 2 or 3 different strains make sure you put them in seperate glasses and label them or write down which is which.

If you are interested in some recipes i found this youtube channel on how to make cannabutter and how to make edibles.
I asked her for a gummy bear recipe and she is working on it.

How do you know it does not infuse 100%?
Because of testing.

Here is a link with testing results. It's a site that sells decarb/infusing machines but it has a lot of good information.

Ok thanks for that info. I already was on that website before but i see still numbers of 96% infusion rates.
I guess it has to do with saturated fats vs non saturated fats ratios. Although i can't really tell that for sure. Anyone got any thoughts on what oil would be best. I personally use either rice oil or peanut oil because thats what i use for cooking also. And i think olive oil is overpriced and overrated and not to be used for cooking.
