Cannabis Cup CA 2017

Hey guys, my wife and I will be headed to the Cannabis Cup in San Bernardino this year, the first recreational California Cannabis Cup.

We've never been to a Cannabis Cup before, and are looking for any tips/tricks/advice/etc.

Has anyone gotten the VIP package before? Was it worth it?

Is going to all 3 days worth it, or are you pretty burnt out after a day or so? We live only 30 miles from the Cup so we'd likely just commute to the Cup for each day in lieu of a hotel.

Should we bother bringing a vaporizer/grinder/oil rig/cannabis/extracts? I have a n

Should we bother bringing a vaporizer/grinder/oil rig/cannabis/extracts? I have a nice collection of gear, but I'd rather not break/lose it and I imagine it'll be a Cannabis playground of samples and giveaways/etc.

Any other input is of course welcome!

Just remember that to participate in the consumption area you still must be a medical cannabis patient. The general public over 21 can get in to see exhibits and speakers, listen to concerts and buy paraphernalia, but if you want to buy bud, concentrate, or edibles you must be a patient according to California law. You cannot legally purchase any cannabis products, until Jan 1, 2018, unless you are a patient. Maybe if you bring your own supply you will be allowed to consume but you better be ready to show your letter of recommendation.

I don't see anywhere on the FAQ page stating that the "specific area" is the only area where consumption is allowed. One of the other FAQ items mentions this:
Is there a bag search?
YES. You CAN bring legal limits of cannabis and smoking accessories.
The fact that they didn't make a distinction between medical and recreational makes me think that consumption is unhindered.

Also, they have other cannabis products (besides smoking/vaporization) which make no mention of medical usage. See here:

Just curious - have you been to other Cannabis Cups, or Hempcons, in California? High Times is having some problems with the Cannabis Cup in Las Vegas, Nev that is on Native American land. The feds just let them know that consumption and distribution isn't allowed per federal law. I'm not saying that they won't get away with having non-medical cannabis consumers in consumption areas. But frankly I think that's still illegal in Calif. We shall see. Good luck.

Like I said, first time attendees. I'm definitely no lawyer- I have my medical card, but my wife does not. We're both 21+ so hopefully consumption works out alright for both of us. I'll keep the thread posted on what I hear back from the email I sent out.

Any input on what the VIP room/gift bags are like? They also mention water stations and designated bathrooms are included with the VIP package- any guesses what the General Admission water/bathroom situation is like in comparison typically?

Edit: Also, totally anecdotal evidence, but I know of a number of Southern California dispensaries that have started advertising recreational sale in addition to medical on their WeedMaps. Perhaps California state attorneys have issues a soft repeal on recreational vending as long as it's kept on the down-low.

I think maybe both need to be 215. It has been a while for me but last one I went to you needed scrip to be in the medication area.
Personally I would think 2 days is enough. Find out who has the best shit to scoop. I would think VIP maybe at Chalice but not sure what you get with HT events. Probably worth a splurge if you want to.
They were writing scrips on site but not sure how much of a premium they went for.

I personal would not worry about it. I've attended the Paid Dues festival at the same events center since like 2006 well before rec. was in effect. No medical card because I don't like being on a list for possible future blackmail, denials or manipulation. Blazed up all day in front of the mounted riverside county sheriff's officers without incident and security gave zero fucks! I've also been to cups at other locations and done the same thing without incident. Could I have been ticketed, maybe but that's not a big deal really. This is southern California life... most law enforcement turns a blind eye to it.

I'm in the Lexus with 5 friends headed out from san-burdue up to Palmdale on the 60... all but the driver are blazing up big-time and he's pulled over for speeding. Blunts all burning as the officer walks up to the driver and asks him for his papers, asked who all was smoking.. says okay....then checks the drivers tongue for cotton mouth and eyes for redness. He then heads back to his cruiser runs my boys info. Comes back and looks at us all and says "okay then y'all be safe tonight, slow down and have a good night" Cheahhhh another nothing happened. So basically go with your gut I say and if something goes wrong then own up to it or don't risk anything. Enjoy the cup!

I'm glad nothing happened but that is pretty foolish advice. Counting on highway patrol or any cop to let that slide when it is clearly against the law is a poor bet.

Ummmm read again. I mentioned my experiences and the fact that southern California is petty relaxed for the most part. At no point did I say it's 100% safe. I even mentioned GO AT YOUR OWN RISK if one decided to CHANCE IT. That's sound advice because in the end ACCOUNTABILITY rests with the person making any decision. AGAIN reading slowly you'll catch onto that I was very lucky and this was years ago..... I almost bet that everyone breaks a law every week even if they didn't realize it. Many so called laws are actually in violation of our constitution and thus null n void but the sheeple still follow them... however I digress.

I guess my point is that you are kind of over-stating how relaxed southern california is. At least for those wanting to make sure they have no felony arrests.
