Cannabis and Ibuprofen

I read an article awhile ago about the ability of ibuprofen to block the psychoactive effects of cannabis. I never really tried it before, but the other day I smoked vaped and had a long drive. I don't really like to drive stoned so I figured I'd give it a try. It seemed to clear my head of the "stoned" feeling but I still felt "high" if that makes sense? I actually somewhat prefer those effects and typically hope to find sativas. Tried it again today and I'm kinda digging it.

Has anyone else tried this? Anyone have thoughts on this? Is using a 200mg dose of ibuprofen over an extended period dangerous?

Apparently thousands of people die from ibuprofen every year. I read a high dose over a long period of time increases the risk of cardiac arrest. I don't know about a 200mg dose of Ibuprofen. I personally don't like the idea of taking any pharmaceutical painkiller over a long period of time. I've never tried that combination, but I did hear Andrew Hill speak about it on the Joe Rogan Experience. He said he used it as a solution for when someone who has a low tolerance gets too high/disoriented and they need to/want to get more sober.

And yeah I was reading about the potential side effects too, which is why I was wondering. 200mg seems pretty small. My dentist was giving me 800mg horse pills after a root canal. So maybe not good for regular use, but useful as a safety net in case I ever go too deep or have a situation where I need to be clear headed.

interesting results, @Jambi619 . I never knew ibuprofen was capable of such. Based on your clear headedness, I imagine it blocks certain cannabinoids such as CBD, while allowing others, like THC. This could prove useful & I may end up testing this for myself. How much before your session did you take it?

200 mg is relatively low, I think 400 mg is the 4-6 hour dose. After a wisdom tooth extraction the doc had me on 600 mg ibuprofen + 7.5 hydro with 750 mg acetaminophen x3 each day. Luckily with my pain tolerance or maybe the opiates LOL, I was feeling better only on one medication by the second day. Once you start getting above ~2500mg (close to the daily recommended limit) things can get dangerous.

Too many people, my aunt among them, read the labels and say "I'm in a ton of pain, if I take two or three times the dose I'll feel better faster." After weeks of this she ended up in the hospital with damage to her liver. Seeing as you've felt a response with a mere 200mg I'd say you're safe in your experimentation.

The mistaken impression that regular use, and even overuse, of OTC pain killers is OK/not harmful, has resulted in thousands of deaths every year - "at least 16,500 NSAID-related deaths occur each year among arthritis patients alone."

It would be interesting to see poll results on the question of which is more dangerous on a regular basis- Cannabis or Ibuprofen? Even at recommended 'safe levels', I wouldn't want to take any NSAID on a daily basis. In fact it takes a whopper of a headache or similar pain for me take any OTC pain killer at all, and even though I have some arthritis that can bother me in cold weather, I never take an NSAID for it.

Although I don't think popping an occasional ibuprofen with a dose of mj is harmful, I do hate to see any drug that can be harmful with an overdose and/or chronic use, promoted for recreational purposes.

Sticky this in best of! I completly agree and even though sometimes I can't walk, I loathe the pills! Even antacid tablets urk me and build up from these can cause kidney stones and they are easy to abuse by the common person. Yet another thing Cannabis is less harmful than, this list is out of control! Schedule I my arse!!!

I hate to go even more off topic but the subject of antacids sets me off. That stuff, OTC or (worse) prescription is all wrong for digestive issues. Neutralizing or destroying stomach acid is not the answer. This is an excellent article on what can cause digestive problems (and opens the entire body to disease) and that you want to take not an alkaline product for relief, but an acidic one- apple cider vinegar.

I've used cannabis for many years. I used ibuprofen also for many years and other anti inflammatories. The anti inflammatories weakened my kidneys the doctors say. Go figure, that was what they told me to take the last 20 years.

I cannot take any anti inflammatories anymore to help with sever arthritis, so it's been a nightmare for me. I cried when the docs told me to go off of the prescription Indomethison I was on, because it helped with the pain of inflammation. My kidney levels went way down. I needed to go off that very day.

I didn't notice any difference how cannabis affected me with or without ibuprofen. I don't believe that theory. For a while I took ibuprofen every day and used cannabis also daily.

Tylenol will harm your liver and it doesn't help with inflammation.

Cannabis didn't harm me except for the combustion.

THC in marijuana actually increases the COX-2 process — a finding that would suggest it has both inflammatory and anti-inflammatory effects on the brain.

Add a COX-2 inhibitor to the mix — or even a non-selective COX inhibitor such as ibuprofen — and the anti-inflammatory effects of THC remain. The "buzz," the lethargy and negative cognitive effects of long-term use, however, are extinguished.

So that's the explanation of the mechanism of action.

I took the 200mg ibuprofen about 10 min after using cannabis and noticed a difference at around 30 min. I don't like taking pills either, OTC or otherwise, which is why I opted for the lowest dose. I also tend to be sensitive things in general.

I wasn't really trying to promote it, just seeking information and opening up a discussion. I think it's pretty interesting and was actually looking around for a drug in the same class with a better safety profile, but I think that's a bit beyond me.

My experience has been about like yours, minus the confirmed kidney damage. About 4-5 times a year, and with food, I take Motrin 800's. And I vape daily with no known effect from Motrin.
Until Motrin started bothering my stomach, I took it daily and vaped daily for some years, again without any effects.

Carol, you may want to try a high cdb variety for inflammation. We make cannacaps with 50/50 thc/cdb oils. It helps me with arthuritus, neuropathy and spinal pain. I find with some level of it in my body I function much better.
