i have recently had the opportunity to try an older version of the cana vape (it doesn't have the nipple for blowing bags), and i must say that i am very, very impressed by its performance! infact, i immediately fell in love it! it seems to meet all of the criteria that i look for in a vape, super quick heat up time, great taste, all glass and ceramic air/vaporpath, easily adaptable to all of my glassware, and it allows for one handed use.
the unit i borrowed didn't come with any of the adaptors that are currently advertised. so i had to try to make something work. first, i found a 14mm - 18mm gong adaptor, and i tried to put a screen in it, but i couldn't get it to stay. the 14mm male joint is just too small, and the screens i had wouldn't work. so then i noticed my glass vapobowl, and its a perfect match! the 18mm male joint on the cana vape mates well enough with the sides of the gvb, and the screen pinches keep the cana vape from sitting in the product. i never leave the cana vape in the glassvapobowl though, its only placed in the gvb when its time to draw.
so for the first attempt i let the unti heat up for three mins (same heatup time as my ha which i use as a benchmark), the temp setting was in the middle. first rip is instantaneous super tasty vapor - dramatically better than my ha, sv, and even the glass vapobowl itself! give it a quick stir and back at it, great taste and instant vapor again! after the first bowl, the gvb starts to absorb some of the heat, and so sometimes i either turn the heat down a little bit to compensate, or just vape the next bowl a little darker. as long as the temp isn't set too high its impossible to combust! however, it would also be able to handle concentrates very easily!
currently, i have refined my technique a bit. i can be blowing clouds in under a minute with this thing now! turn it on to max, fill the gvb with product, then start drawing! after the first few pulls i drop the temp to half, and finish the bowl! a one bowl session is done in under 3 minutes! that almost matches my sv, which was my previous standard measure. the cana vape is easier to use than the sv though (don't need a torch and a steady hand), and gives better taste, and doesn't use as much product.
i am not so impressed with the workmanship of the cana vape. the temp control box, the electrical cord, and the glass all seem fine, its just that the label, and the black heat resistant tubing that holds the glass and the electrical cord on, don't leave an impression of a professionally designed unit.
i tried to do some research on the web about the cana vape and there really isn't much. the link in the op doesn't work, and i have only been able to find a few vids on youtube about it. one of them is just terrible. and other three i found weren't any better. i can't find any references to how its made other than the 'obscure vape' thread here on FC, where its stated that the heating element is a hakko.
it seems to be sold at a very few places, and at $210 its expensive. it does come with a lot of adaptors, which is part of the reason i think the price is high.
i think if they dropped the price to 130 - 150, by getting rid of all the unnecessary adaptors, and just offered it with a an 18mm to 14mm adaptor and a lo pro 18mm to 14mm adaptor, (the 3rd and 2nd adaptors from the right in the pic) it would be an amazing bang for your buck.
at the price its currently at, i would suspect that unless you need the bag blowing attachment, you'd be better off buying a vhw. i have never used a vhw though...
