Can you tell the difference between Spice/Synthetics and MJ?

A buddy of mine was doing some one-hits and told me that it was some of the best he's had in awhile. It looked like weed. I smelled it and it kinda smelled like weed. I took a hit and it kinda tasted like weed. The high was very head-heavy and somewhere between weed and shrooms. Things were 'cloudy'. When the high subsided I told him that I don't think that was weed and he got offended. I don't know if it was weed treated with something or a pure synthetic or maybe it was a strain I've never experienced before. I've never tried the synthetics so I have no basis for comparison. I will say this...I'm not interested in doing more of it so on that basis alone I don't think was MJ.

Anyone have any experience with this and based on my description what do you think it was?

All "spice" mixes I had the occasion to test so far clearly didn't look nor smelled like MJ. They were more like crushed herb mixes in loose form (no buds) and while some had not awful smells (once there was some vanilla flavor to it) it was usually nowhere like good kind bud.

Now if you live in Europe, the market is flooded with laced weed, it's just horrible! Most users will deny it is and will say it's perfectly fine but it is not (and sadly most don't have the choice anyways, so they take what they can get)

It's gone to such a point where about 10 different people around me all had 10 different looking buds, bought from 10 different dealers and places, but they all had the exact same trademark taste and a very un-natural effect (as well as being heavy on the lungs)

I've had the opportunity to watch many buds under a microscope and what I saw was freaky! The stuff is either sprayed or dipped, usually after having all the hash removed...

I have no idea if what you tested was laced weed or not, it's hard to say with the little info you have and without having access to a sample. But if it's the case or if it was some kind of spice-like mix, you are right to be not interested in doing more.

Once smoked spice exclusively as I was worried about legal things, two biggest tell tales for me;

-Taste, never tasted like weed, more like potpourri or just herbal blend. Have had vanilla hints before as well, but NEVER anything like weed.

-Longevity of the high. 40 min max. More around a half hour. Very short lived and more psychedelic.


Not sure if you had it or not, but seem like you may have.

I assumed it was already put through a grinder before I got to see it. It did look potpourri like but so does some ground up weed if the grinder isn't a fine grind model. I'll ask him, if I can without pissing him off further, whether he put it in a grinder and whether it was in bud form before he did.

The high lasted longer than 40 mins but I'll be darned if I can remember for sure how much longer, and the taste, smell and look as I mentioned, was 'kinda' weed like. To be more specific...it didn't look, smell, taste like it wasn't weed nor did it look, taste, smell for sure like it was.

It definitely had some mild psychedelic overtones to it... a sort of 'cloudy like' visual that muddled the colors a bit and didn't feel 'weed like'.

Maybe I should just ask him if he liked the buzz because I didn't like it very much even though it kicked my ass, ..... that might be the truth teller right there because I never met a MJ buzz I didn't like and I've got a few decades under my belt.

Something I forgot, but lots of the spice I smoked was exceptionally fluffy and I believe marshmallow was in it....if you were able to look at it closely or touch it, you'd know instantly not sticky at all, doesn't bind together either very well.

Though I recommend just staying away lol

Staying away it will be .... If I had known in advance I'd be questioning the stuff I would have paid more attention. We hit it up and left the apartment and didn't return so I couldn't say 'lemme see that stuff' afterwards.

What really worries me is I get some of my stuff from him and I'd hate to lose a friend and connection by saying words I can barely force outa-my-face when it comes to the blessed plant.....'I don't want it'

i can certainly tell a difference or at least when i think its not mj ive always been right, which means im not being told ahead of time so for those folks i end up just saying "im good", which i am.
