But with these prices over here you could aswell just order one from the manufacturer in the colors u like and pay almost same.
If youre still checkin out grinders let me give you a brief review once I get mine!
My last grinder was the Weedo SS one, which is pretty good but not excellent and Im really lookin forward to threadless design with the Bcg

You are right, ordering from the European site won't save me much $$ (they have some hefty postage fees too), but it will save me some time. The site was the reason I was pondering getting a BCG at all. :-)

To me, that just looks roughly brushed out.

@bizwaxzion - That definitely looks like the color has worn off quite a bit.
Did you get yours during the first run or later?
Have you reached out to them to see what they have to say about it?
What do you clean it with?

Like I said earlier, I have had mine for over a year and have seen zero signs of wear - curious why there is such a big difference.

It might be dictated by the color used for anodizing – I have seen pictures on Vaporasylum which do not show any wear at all too, so maybe some colors wear off quicker than others.

The full set grinder was purchased during the 4/20 sale last year and has been in daily use since then. It was cleaned with warm soapy water followed by an iso wipedown. The color is sapphire. I've never used the coarse plate and the fine plate (sky blue) is only used once in a while - it too shows some wear but to a lesser extent. I emailed GFL yesterday with the same picture but have not gotten a response yet.

I bought one last September and just ordered another.

The grinder works exceptionally well and puts cheap grinders to shame. ALWAYS smooth, never balky.

I cleaned mine last week, for the first time. I soaked it in hot water and dish soap and then rinsed.

It is true, these are not that large. I haven’t really attempted to quantify but my perception is that the bottom cavity will hold much less than 1/8 oz. Maybe 2 grams, comfortably, is my guess. Possibly a tad more.

I ordered a second unit (which will give me 3 grinders total) because I like to rotate between a few strains and just leave ground herb in the grinders, ready to go.

Quick google on “can anodized aluminum finish chip”. Pasting first two results:

“Anodizing is an electrochemical process that converts the metal surface into a decorative, durable, corrosion-resistant, anodic oxide finish. ... This aluminum oxide is not applied to the surface like paint or plating, but is fully integrated with the underlying aluminum substrate, so it cannot chip or peel.“


“By anodizing an aluminum surface, this atmospheric corrosion can be reduced, but not eliminated. Anodizing provides a thin aluminum oxide layer, which will deteriorate over time. Depending on the thickness and quality of the anodization, the surface should last 10-20 years.”

Let us know what BCG says, maybe it was an early run, but it doesn’t seem like you should see any surface “chipping” at all. I own a lot of “aluminum” things that have been anodized, and while they can scratch, never saw any chipping of finish.

My grinder looks the same, I first noticed wearing of the coating where the magnets meet in the centre. There's been pictures of this posted in the thread before of the same ( I can't seem to find them ) My grinder color is Hematite and it was ordered Nov 2018

I think the uncolored surfaces have lost their anodizing from metal to metal contact. Mine also had this wear. I attribute it to me putting a bit much in, pushing the two pieces together and while they're becoming aligned. I don't think anything has flaked or chipped off.....

At least the medium plate is shown on the pics, I couldn't choose but suppose it's the default one.

@color chipping – I found some serious wear in →a review by Sneaky Pete, apparently this one is in sapphire too:

Both the center post and the edge seem to have some issues – the same clip shows some closeups of differently colored BCGs and they do not seem to have the same symptoms.

Honestly, I'm not even sure it's an (health) issue at all. I'm looking forward to see what the GFL-team will reply to @bizwaxzions request and I'm still looking forward to receive my BCG.

Anodization should not wear off, either.

Agree with MonkeyTime. I think this is when someone puts to much herb in to grind, and the plates/teeth do not align right away and they rub against one another.

No wear or tear on mine. I don't grind near as much as others i am guessing, daily user but don't need a lot to get where i'm going. One thing i do, is only fill the middle ring with herb, then apply the top and twist rather then smush/press down. Now and then if i put in a little extra or not the right size, i can feel the teeth making contact so i back off and get it set right.

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in as well, so can't take this for the gospel, just my experience and observations. Have loved my grinder coming first from one at a headshop, and then the gr8tr v2, to the BCG. Started with only using the fine grind, but switched to the medium grind for 2 reasons: 1.) I had read medium grind can be a litle better for convection, which is primarily what i use and 2.) the fine plate is great, but absolutely everything falls through on the medium plate.

Since I'm a microdoser, I only grind a small amount at a time, & I break the herb into small pieces & insert them between the blades, thus, the lid & the grinding plate are pretty much in alignment when I begin grinding. I, too, have the sapphire & it's showing no wear to-date.

Seems like something the company could immediately address and respond to. Guess they are not part of this thread?

I will say that if you're smashing the metal parts together in a way that they rub against each other in areas that they weren't designed to, then I would expect some metal marring to happen. Is what it is.

I got a response from GFL that this is normal wear for any aluminum grinder and does not affect the function.
