Boundless Tera

Up to you to take the chance...... Only way you will know is to do a tear-down on yours....or keep using and see if it eventually has issues. But then again....you could also send it to a lab and have them do an analysis of compounds put out to see. But then....you probably dont have or want to spend the huge sum of coin it would take.

So.....you take a chance seemly with what Boundless just stated....or even possibly more of a chance with what might be known in the future with further scrutiny.

True but on the other hand, I don't want anyone else touching my girl.. let alone strip her and mess around with her :D. Fair chance that the full recall was done to be on the safe side and for legal reasons. So if this thing could be further clarified by Boundless then maybe return can be avoided, as some here were suggesting. Just sayin'

Apart from the tape, we will be modifying the water pipe adapter and other flaws noted by pre-order customers.

God knows what else they gonna do to her :uhoh::p

do they plan to fix each Tera or are they just replacing them? Do we have an ETA of when the new/fixed Teras will be shipping?

I think first run Tera's were beta testers, to make any changes or improvements and finalize 2nd edition.

I believe they will be new units (normally cheaper to replace then fix).

I wouldn't say it like that tbh (BETA implys it was planned :p ).

It was a flawed first shipment by the manufacturer . I assume they're just taking the opportunity with the recall to fix the little issues (such as the WPA) at the same time.

From the company's statement it appears that they will be sending the returned units back to the manufacturer in China to be fixed and then sent back to the company and returned to you. I wouldn't try estimating how long this is going to take...

Also, as BNDLS won't respond to further questions asked here regarding the recall, I'm not sure what's the right thing to do.. but I'm leaning towards keeping my device :leaf:

@sammuel, just a question for your health's sake - don't you want to open your device to determine whether smiss wrapped tape around your heating element? Since that is the only offgassing culprit reported by BNDLS at this time, if you have no tape on your element, sounds like you should be in the clear. If there is tape, probably just a matter of time before it degrades into particle dust since the tape "was not intended to be used at the temperatures it was being exposed to."

I highly doubt that will happen. Do you want a used unit that has dog/cat hair in it....smells like some cologne...and some burnt smell from something that was burning in the bowl.....?

If they were going to do that....I better get the one back I returned....I cleaned the hell out of that thing for 2 days......it will be the one that is the cleanest they have in the returns. lol

That's my fear here, and since Boundless won't address this issue or answer questions - I assume this is their plan.

The questions that me and others raised here after the recall were:

:leaf:How come only some units had off gassing if the tape is the supposed culprit? Did some units not have the tape or had it taped wrong? I think they are not sure either and simply want to send it back at this point. So it could be another reason, some reported the heating chamber not being aligned for example.. If I remember correctly @Boden checked the tape and found it to be ok (correct me if I'm wrong).

:leaf:Speaking of the tape, another reason for suspecting it as being the problem is, as mentioned, the CFV having tape in the same place (as shown on the teardown) so how come they say the tape is not supposed to be there?

:leaf:Are we going to receive new Teras, or the returned Teras after they are going to be fixed (/refubrished) and then returned to us? From my understanding it's the latter.

Why won't Boundless address these concerns? Myself and others here already have trust issues with this company, so when they now ignore us and won't clarify things - We are left to speculate and I assume the worst.

well as far as I can tell, @Boden noticed tape (and insulation) around the outer chamber, which I expect is by design and also is like this in the CFV. Boundless and PIU have identified tape around the actual heating element, which defies logic and I would not imagine was part of Boundless design. I guess @Boden never dismantled the actual inner chamber.

@Boden did seem to identify that the tape he found around the outer chamber was not reacting even when he applied 600F, which seems to be the only positive thing related to tape in the Tera besides its intended purpose of insulating the outer chamber.

Well maybe that's another positive of you tearing down your unit. It would be very interesting to see whether yours has tape on the actual heater element.

All I said was the tape was pretty good quality. There are two heating elements, one inside the other.

The white goo used to seal the bottom of the heating chamber where the wires enter the air path is the most likely culprit. IMO

Hey together...
I am wondering about the tape too!!!
Eventually it is to hold the ceramic if the heater is old and the ceramic get brittle.
So peaces from the ceramic could fly into your loungs while pulling.
I think the heater isn't seperated from the air path like for example in the alternate, or is it?
Mhhh...maybe this all is far-fetched.

You know what they say about "ASSUME"ing things. Why don't you just wait and see what they do.These things take some time. The manufacturer is in China as you know. Boundless wants this to be a done deal I can assure you! Besides I shouldn't mater, to you, because you have said repeatedly that your not sending yours back anyway! Yours "works" fine! Vape on dude!!!

Hey there best buddy  It does matter to me, I'm not sending it back yet but I might, it depends on the mentioned unaddressed concerns.

Firstly, to address the questions of sending the unit back. We have stated in our emails and posts that we strongly advise not to use the first production Tera units and have sent return labels to all our pre-order customers to facilitate the return. To clarify, we are asking our customers NOT to use the first production units. It is understood that there are reports of good units, unfortunately, we cannot recommend the use of these units as it has been determined that the first batch of Tera’s were not released to our standards and expectations. We have also offered our pre-order customers any other unit of their choice to use while the Tera’s are being updated and re-shipped. The heating in the Tera is one of our most powerful systems developed, unfortunately, our team missed the necessary adjustments to compensate for the higher-powered heater. This, coupled with other inconsistencies found, has led us to issue the recall and ask our customers to patiently wait for the new version of the Tera.

The new Tera units that will be sent out will NOT be refurbished first production units. The reason for us to ask for the units back is due to the number of reported issues found in first production units. Even if there was not visible off-gassing or noticeable smells, it was determined that these units did not meet our performance standards and we do not want those units to represent Boundless Technology to the consumer and in the market space. If you need assistance on the return process please email me Eric@bndlstech.com.

We are currently waiting for sample units. Sample units should be arriving this week. Confirmed improvements to the Tera so far:

No gassing

Reverse display of LED - When the unit is on press the “+ (increase temperature)” 3 times to reverse the display.

WPA improved:

Manual quality has improved

The number “201803” will be printed on the bottom of the unit’s base

I will update once our sample units arrive, please let me know if you have any questions and thank you all for the support.

Great post, Eric, & thorough -- right down to the coding of the new units coming off the assembly line -- The number “201803” will be printed on the bottom of the unit’s base.

And implementation of the reverse LED during next production run.

The heating in the Tera is one of our most powerful systems developed, unfortunately, our team missed the necessary adjustments to compensate for the higher-powered heater.

My guess is that the white goo @Boden referred to & maybe the tape used didn't hit temp spec.

We have also offered our pre-order customers any other unit of their choice to use while the Tera’s are being updated and re-shipped.

Listen everyone, BVT, would not be offering loaners if they weren't serious about not wanting you to use this Tera batch. Do your body a huge favor by playing it safe & wait for the next batch. No matter how remote a chance, you don't want to take a any chance of diminishing a healthy or long life. It will, for sure, be worth the relatively short wait, especially w/ the inclusion of the reverse LED & the wpa improvement.

Don't make me stop this car and come back there!................:p We will be there when we get there.

Agreed!

Speaking of loaners... Although I have no need for a replacement unit, I was wondering how this is supposed to work? Those who opted for replacement will be loaned a different device that they can either keep or return to get the new Tera?
