well.. yes and no.
yes, I do notice a difference in effect between strains/batches. but as you already said, there is no clear indica/sativa divide. and to add to that, how it's grown and the time of harvest also have an impact(for example I personally prefer a more sativa-strain, grown outdoors, harvested a little early). this is harder to notice when you buy, since you usually don't know much about how it's grown, but of you ever have a plant yourself you can easily test it out: harvest, trrim and dry 1 bud early(when the buds look well, plenty of crystrals, but only clear trichomes, no cloudy trichomes at all), and then let 1 bud on the plant longer, till there are mostly/only amber trichomes, and if you compare those 2 buds the effect will probably seem like 2 different strains.
but vaping does complicate matters since temp also matters, although in my experience difference in strains/growing/harvesttime seems to make a greater difference as the temp of vaping, but both/all have a noticable impact.
p.s. I do have to add though, if you would give me a hit/some hits from a vape, and then ask me to describe the effect and how it differs from some otrher strain, I wouldn'tr be able to answer you. but if you give me a supply for a few days-a week, so I can vape it on multiple occassions, in varying circumstances, I will get a feeling of what is specific/typical of the effect it gives.
