Black Leaf is a brand of Near Dark GmbH.
They also have Blaze, DEA, Breitseite and Astronaut.
The company is german but most the product are made in China.

Here is a peek of the chinese factory.

What a guy!
Thanks for posting that. Interesting to see the factory, makes me want to give BL, and their other labels.

Well done! It appears that the Chinese are people too.

I use a Black Leaf ashcatcher as a make shift bubbler while I'm stacking up a bit more $ for a decent piece.

Definitely not 'top of the line' pieces, but it's taken several falls (onto carpet), and the ashcatcher itself is still ticking after one drop broke the J-hook. Would say it's a good 3-4mm thick.

That, and it makes bubbles:shrug:. Would not steer anyone away from the line if they're just getting into smoking/vaping.

My biggest (only? that comes to mind) gripe about it is how finicky the water line can be. An 8th inch can be the difference between water in the j-hook, or a nice hit.

My biggest issue with glass made in China is knowing that many of these blowers probably have some serious talent and are unfortunately most likely neither payed nor praised as they deserve. Of course I have other issues like glass quality and things like that, but I feel it isn't right. At least some of these people are not living up to their ability.

I get that same feeling when buying chinese electronics. The though that some genius level guy in China who knows more about electronics than I ever will is working in shit conditions for less pay than I got at McDonalds just makes me sick. Unfortunately, morality falls by the wayside to profit far to often in this country.

Agreed! China glass gets a bad rep but I feel like these people have potential that won't be realized where they work.

I've had the inline ashcatcher with a j-hook as my daily driver in combination with the solo...cheap and very effective...

Yeah, for sure, the welds are not superclean and not everything is 100%straigth, but it feels sturdy and has not broken in over a half year of use and transport in my backpack...

what piece exactly are you talking about? If I can give you a personal tip, some might feel different, try to keep the piece as small as possible for the solo...With bigger pieces you can deifnately ask too much from the heater:2c: (now with my minivap the opposite is the case, pull harder get bigger clouds...one of my reasons to make the switch and invest shitloads in this minivap, couldn't be more pleased)

actually Chinese glass workers aren't treated poorly - of course they work more than 40 hours / week and don't get paid vacations but its not exactly "sweatshop" conditions and they actually make a pretty decent wage compared to other industries in that country.

That being said they don't make as much as the "rock stars" in the States but its pretty comparable to most production workers here ( if factor in standard of living ).

iPhone workers on the other hand I can't speak to - Never visted Foxconn but heard horror stories, but we all need our cheap cell phones

Well, I snagged several Black Leaf water pipes: an Octobong, a Blaze double cage perc and a Lazy bong with inline defuser. All of them are pretty good quality in my book for daily users especially since the most expensive was like $130.

Sure compared to then locally blown glass I have here in the Portland area (know like 8-10 blowers within 15 miles :) them are not up to those standards, but these cost over $500 each. The small bubblers cost $250+

For me I like a variety and I don't use my $1000 glass daily even though it sure draws like a Ferrari drives. You just don't drive a Ferrari to work, its a weekend fun machine for me (if I owned one - for me its a Harley) :D

Yes, sorry. Dad went in Hospital and had to go to CA. Its sitting at home. BTW I own most of the BLA B series if you want to see one in action. I own many high high American glass: Sheldon Black, Dirty Rico, David Goldstein, Mothership, J-Red, 2013 DC, Worm/2BA etc and the high end Black Leaf almost nearly matches them even though its made in China. they are great budget pipes. Sure my Mothership Egg is awesome in look and operation, but it was $1600. The Blaze pieces don't look as good, but its 90% there at $160 :)

Really? Been there and work for a Taiwan based company so I am there and China often. The funny thing is you are judging the situation with your perspective which is based on your standard of living which here is very, very excessive and materialistic. Personally I think they are much happier except for the Government of course. To them its a great wage compared to previous choices. However, yes it isn't great conditions, but just wait things are changing and infrastructure is being quickly uopgraded. Experience nice material things will quickly change their happiness level to be like ours - always upset what I don't have instead of enjoying what I have...

You think China is bad - go to Cambodia - a order of magnitude worse than China. Of all my travels the Cambodians are the happest people I ever met and they have little or nothing.

Also keep in mind we (USA) treat 3rd world countries very poorly. We rip off their resources process it and resale back to them. Our standard of living requires us to use others. Heck think about the oil situation...

Sorry - rant over :)
