One really bad result of big business interest in cannabis is that they will resist/ lobby hard with BIG money resources against "home grows".
Here in AZ we're still medical-only, and registered patients/caregivers are only allowed to legally grow if they live more than 25 miles from a licensed dispensary.
I wonder how that will change down the line if/when recreational becomes legal.
I always thought one of the biggest problems with medicine where children are concerned was it sometimes looks too much like sweeties.
Of course there's always been that problem with OTC and script pharmaceuticals - medications looking like chocolate bars, Skittles/MMs, and more recently even gummies. Not to mention household cleaners and other chemicals that look like tasty beverages. The solution has always been to take care to keep such things away from children.
With cannabis-infused edibles able to be almost anything it just means we must take even greater care to make sure they aren't eaten by the kiddos (or, for that matter, unsuspecting adults).
A good solution is to keep all edibles in their original packaging until consumed, and to keep that in a special place (a certain shelf of the cupboard, or a special box or other container) that is reserved exclusively for medicinal foods/treats and is plainly marked as such. If there are children in the house, make sure they can't get to it, or store it in a locked cabinet or container.
Same goes for the fridge - reserve a shelf or crisper drawer for medicated goodies or ingredients and plainly mark it. If there are children around, you might consider a second small, lockable refrigerator if you frequently keep such things on hand.
Also, it isn't just kids. Keep out of reach of pets, too. Dogs love sweet treats. Heck, who am I fooling - dogs will eat almost anything. And cats are attracted to the buds.
