BHO vs CO2

I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to tell the difference between BHO and Co2. To me they look the same but, Co2 is much more expensive. Thanks.

CO2 extractions will result in a sticky, amber oil. Many dispensaries will say their concentrates are made using CO2 even though they're actually made with butane simply because BHO is illegal, even under medicinal laws. This is why you may see waxes, shatters, and budders labeled as CO2 even though they look identical to the butane extracted concentrates you've seen around. It's just false advertising.

i'm not sure i have ever used CO2 oil.. probably due to the price? but it's more jelly-like from what i understand.. and it lacks some flavor compared to good BHO, i hear...

BHO has been illegal to sell in dispensaries since just after it showed up.. i don't really see much BHO labeled as CO2 anymore.. they just don't claim it's BHO, and they seem to get away w/ it.

Tried the green crack o-pen the other day and that really tasted like garbage. Is good taste attainable with CO2?

I don't personally find CO2 extracts to taste badly, at least the ones that I've tried. But they do typically lack the flavor you can get using other extraction methods.

that is a relief - i will have to go ahead and try them. that will go good in a cartomizer.

In my opinion:
Most Co2 oil is BHO that is mislabeled.


I make bho and wax for several collectives
I use butane.
I have never seen co2 extracted oil.
in theory it is possible with a very expensive and complex supercritical fluid extractor which requires knowledge and a shitload of permits to operate
SCFEs reach 8000+psi and up. To 1000f
That can level a city block with pressure alone
This can't b done in a back yard

Co2 can produce crumble-like concentrates but it is basically the waxes scraped from the filters, Co2 is typically a jelly-like substance. It is generally 15-20% less in THC potency than butane extracts according to my testing. The highest Co2 oil I've had tested was a 65% THC while the highest BHO I've tested was an 85.3% THC. The predominant terpene pulled in Co2 is Caryophyllene, the terpene that makes black pepper spicy. This is why Co2 generally has that same flavor from my findings.

That was the most common response. The lighter color shows that the product has more water in it than it should. That's to be said for all Co2 oil. This batch tasted great but sizzled on the nail. With time in a vac oven it gets to be the darker color you see around the sides. The terpenes get trapped in the water so the better tasting Co2 will always sizzle.

Another thing I forgot to mention is how well Co2 pulls a full plant spectrum, not just THC and CBD. I've seen some crazy numbers on CBG's with Co2.

Indeed. The stuff that looks like blond crumble tested in the 70's for THC. The problem is only a few grams of that quality gets scraped from the filters each cleaning, which isn't every run.

It's not my machine and I've never run one but I've seen/tested enough to comment.

That is 99.99999999% Co2, gotta leave a little margin for error. If it's very liquidy I would say it's cut but if it's the consistency of jelly or thicker you have a winner. I know O-Pen cuts their carts.

Its very much a jelly consistency, although it'll run like water when heated. Flavor kind of sucked but it vaped super easy and was pretty stony. This stuff was made at MedWest, who do the CA portion of the Organalabs products (O Pen, CO2 honey oil syringes, etc...). From what I gathered this stuff is what they start with before adding the PG to the O Pen carts to make it feed easier... as well as what I assume is some flavor enhancer.

The flavor sucking is another sign it's Co2. No Co2 will have as good of a terpene profile as BHO.

Any knowledge as to the effectiveness of using Co2 oil in things like glycol or glycerine tinctures? I regularly make candy with hash or bho in glycol and have dispensary oil that says its Co2 that I would like to try

I for one prefer C02 oil when buying from an unknown source... C02 requires a significantly more expensive and professional setup and I am willing to sacrifice a tiny bit of taste for being sure that there's no butane or mystery oil leftover.. That and I tend to use my oil in pens so the thinner oil tends to wick better for me, nail users probably prefer a more solid concentrate

I'm intrigued. I get cartridges for my open vape under the brand name Gold Star Concentrates. It says on the package that it's CO2, but it looks nothing like these pictures. It's an amber color and moves kind of like fresh sap no matter what its temp. Do you think it's actually BHO?

At my dispensaries, co2 come in syringes. I'm wondering if that will work with pen atomizers or do I need to use one of the tanks you mix with glyc. I would love to use it on waxy atomizers because the syringe makes life easy. Plus, I feel it will soak into the ceramic rod covered in ti coils easy.

I tried the eureka prefilled, but tastes weird. Pure gold tastes the best. Will the co2 oil (looks like honeywith about the same density) work with my dabbler or dr dabber pen? Thanks

the co2 in syringes will work well if you do not overload the atomizer, the co2 oil is much more runny that wax or shatter so you cannot put as much in once the atomizer gets warm from one or two hits the oil will run so dont load much more than that...

Yeah I'm up here in Maine and they were wicked harsh about concetrates, not even keif at first... we've had the program (MMJ) up for a while just not the dispensaries.

Finally in August of this year kief and ONLY c02 extraction is legal. Dispensary I went to said they'd have it in by September.... it's almost Christmas and no word.... heh.....

State keeps very close eye on how many dispensaries (there's like one per county or something, meaning 8 or so hah), caregiver delvery only has like 3 options for you...

Kinda off track there but yeah watching our ELECTION COVERAGE!!! we really are like 47th in business in USA, shown off by the fact dispensaries CAN'T SELL outside product, all has to be made from own flower, etc. May sound good in theory to some people, but really kinda suuuucks when you can't get Pre-Made Concentrates, Wacky edibles, pre-loaded vape pens... etc......
