BHO/QWISO Purity Question

Hey there FC!

I was able to acquire a moderate quantity of BHO budder of questionable quality. In an attempt to remove any possible leftover waxes, lipids, or butane, I dissolved the budder into 99% ISO and then evaporated on a plate for 48 hours.

I scraped it up, put it into a container, and had to leave home for a while. Now that I am back, I'm curious if the product is reasonable safe to consume. It is an extremely viscous dark amber oil somewhat similar to honey in consistency. It bubbles when used with the CT in my MFLB.

Here's a picture:

You have done nothing to remove plant lipids and waxes.

Redissolve that in 99 Iso, freeze for 24hrs alongside your filter rig, and then filter.

I use a disposable 25 micron sryinge filter, but dudes I have mad respect for use reusable 316 stainless steel screens in a glass funnel over a mason jar.

Interesting, I neglected to mention that when it was dissolved I poured off a milky white phase of the solution, which I thought was the lipids and waxes. I will admit that I passed over the filter process as I was more concerned with making the product solvent free.

In that regard, would this product be safe? I'm ignorant to health concerns of waxes and lipids, but I thought their presence was more relevant to the quality of the extract (rather than the safety).

EDIT: Also, I realize that this picture makes the oil look incredibly dark, but it more golden in color outside of the container (there are 4-5 grams in there)

The milky white is water that was in the raw BHO.

Lipids and cannabinoids are immiscible (do not separate) at room temperature.

0°F is a good temperature at which to achieve separation.

If you dab a lot, avoid inhaling plant waxes. Google "lipid pneumonia".

Is what you have safe? I can't tell you, because I don't know what else is in there. Would I dab that after winterizing? In a heartbeat...

Thanks a ton for the information! I had no idea about freezing it, how silly of me. :) I do not dab frequently, but will winterize soon to be safe.

One last question, what do you mean by raw BHO? BHO with water content? Thanks again!

The water mostly came from the plant material the wax was extracted from. Although there is a small amount of water in BOTH Butane and your ISO. IMO you ruined the BHO with the ISO.. ISO leaves a bad taste, IMO. and no amount of purging seems to get rid of it. Me I would have maybe floated the BHO in a pan of hot water, for a couple hours to purge the solvents. If you wanted to remove the waxes and limpids, an ethanol wash and low temp filtering would have made scence. Remember the ISO is a solvent.

Raw BHO = stuff that comes out the bottom of the extraction tube, after butane self-purges at STP (room temp and regular atmospheric pressure).

It comprises of cannabinoids, terpenes, plant waxes, and to a lesser extent chlorophyll, water, and butane.

Cannabis absolute = that shit ^^ stripped of water, solvent, and lipids.
