Better than a Splinter Z?

G’day everyone,

I’ve recently been approved for medicinal cannabis here in Australia (can’t believe it’s actually real yet, what a time to be alive!) and thought to celebrate I might treat myself to a new vapouriser.

I’ve been using a Splinter Z for the last few years and I love it. It basically seems perfect for me, got it setup in temp control and it takes a few seconds to heat up, tastes amazing, extracts a bowl in 3 - 4 tokes and the batteries last for ages.

I also have a few dynavaps. Don’t get me wrong, they’re great, simple little things. But I find myself reaching for the Z the majority of the time due to the flavour and less cleaning.

Other vapes I’ve tried that I didn’t really like are the volcano (uses too much herb, bags are inconvenient), plenty (uses too much herb, long time to heat up), mighty (uses too much herb, battery life) and boundless cf (not the best flavour).

So after that long winded introduction my question is, are there any vapes I might like more than the Splinter that I should look into? I’m considering a sticky brick but I’ve heard they get quite dirty and are hard to clean, and I’ve just seen the new gtr log vape thing that looks interesting but I don’t know if I would use it often enough in a sitting to justify a log vape.

For context I usually have one bowl every 2 - 3 hours in the afternoons, small bowls (Splinter size is perfect), mainly looking for flavour but it has to hit reasonably hard, prefer convection vapes and on demand is more suited to my habits.

I’ve been considering a sticky brick for a while now and had been considering an Ed tnt log vape but I quite like the look of that gtr as I prefer glass airpath and it would work with my rbt stems. Haha, I think I just talked myself into the gtr. 😂

Cheers. 🤙

I have always had some sort of log for home use, but recently started using a tinymight as my portable when away from home. It's the closest to my logs as far as taste, ease of use, and very easy to keep clean. I'm using some 5 inch glass stems that Mike at OregonGlassBlowers made for me. The extra length helps cool the vapor & since most of my herb is pretty fresh, I just break off a small nug and squeeze it into the stem.

I'd consider a TM, GTR & e-nano xl. If $ is no object, then also take a look at the Couch Log. You can't go wrong with any of these. If you love the Z, then you will probably love the TM. The beauty of a log vape is that you can keep it on all day so it's always ready. If you find the vape isn't for you, they all can be easily sold.

Hey, @Shit Snacks , I would think the Halo would also fit the bill for the OP considering it has a fast heat up, but how does it do with microdosing?

Thanks for all the suggestions! Much appreciated. 😊

I think I’m leaning towards the gtr at the moment. I have wanted a log vape as it will be something a bit different to the Z. As Summer says, I like the idea of just leaving it on next to the couch and having it ready to go.

I’d looked at the tinymight but thought it was to similar to the Z and didn’t think it could be better. After what Shit Snacks says though I might have to look a bit deeper.

I’ll check out some of the others mentioned too, like the halo and couch log. Hadn’t heard of them before. I think I’ll get a sticky brick at some point too but am definitely leaning toward a log at the moment.

Thanks again people, take it easy. 🤙

The Tinymight is super handy and consistent. Changing the single battery is annoying and flavor won't surpass your Z. For best vapor quality pair it with a j-hook to get the steel cooling unit (which clogs in just a handful of bowls) out of the airpath.

The Z is also excellent with a j-hook but I get best results stem packing the wpa as opposed to the typical basket screen. Not sure why

I like the WoodScents logs...so much I sent Ed a slab of Huon Pine to get a custom job made. He now has an upgraded heater in newer units that is supposed to be even better. The kit even comes with an aromatherapy oil cup that is handy for citronella when camping (12v logs are great) while not vaping from it.

Citronella is working magic,
My Missus is like a magnet to any mosquito, And when she's awake and declaring war with them, my sleep sucks.
Sooo, quite important too tackle that problem.
At Home I have Citronella plants ,(they stay green all year in this climate anyway)under every single window planted in the dirt, they grow like a ground cover plant,;so I have to prune them back every few months;.
This works so well ,that we don't even need a citronella plant on the bedside table.
But when on the road, cramping(sorry I mean camping)A plant in the tent and a plant in the van keeps us all happy.

we forgot them once,.......I do not want to talk about that........very bad memories.@LesPlenty
