I have been living with the most impossible excessive mucus production for 12 years now, due to multiple infections in my lungs, throat and sinuses plus intestines.
Also the most severe allergies.
I am literally managing symptoms 24/7. My life revolves around it. Every time I eat food, my respiratory tract fills up with tons of thick mucus.
Different foods vary enormously in terms of the level of mucus produced. Most foods most people eat I have to avoid like the plague! You would not believe the gigantic list of things I have to avoid.
The same goes for virtually all supplements and herbs. With very few exceptions. To this day, I still cannot use any type of toothpaste. I use himalayan salt to brush my teeth, which are perfectly healthy.
I take oil of oregano every single day. I would not be here without it. It is one of the very few remedies that does not exacerbate the mucus production,,and it is a vital part of my symptom management routine.
I also take vitamin c, "ascorbic acid" powder. This I put on a teaspoon and tip into the back of my mouth/throat, being careful not to choke on it. I dont want it in my mouth. It is very sharp.
When the mucus is worse, I cant swallow the vitamin c for a minute or 2, as it is reacting with and dissolving mucus in my throat. Eventually, I can swallow it, but I make a conscious effort not to also swallow the mucus it has dissolved at the same time.
I lean over the toilet and mucus literally runs out of my mouth for 2 or 3 minutes. It has been thinned out by the ascorbic acid powder.
It doesnt work if I take the vitamin c down dissolved in water. It needs to be in contact with the mucus in my upper respiratory tract. This is another highly effective and vital part of my routine. I do this after meals, before I take the oregano oil.
Aloe vera juice is also very helpful, except I have only found one particular brand that does not actually cause more mucus production for me, for an unknown reason.
I also HAVE to use high quality essential oils daily to clear the excessive mucus from my respiratory tract. Especially peppermint oil.
It can be very painful, the menthol, a "no pain, no gain."
I used to put 2 or 3 drops of peppermint oil onto one palm, rub my palms together, and cup my hands over my mouth and nose and inhale deeply. It is necessary to hold the oil in for a while for best effect.
Rosemary is also good, but not as good as "eucalyptus radiata".
I get most of my essential oils from this US company. They are pure, the highest quality, and very affordable.

However, I developed hand injuries 4 years ago, and have not been able to use this "palm" method anymore. Even more effective for thorough, deep lung cleansing, is doing a steam inhalation with the essential oils.
You can use a bowl, cup or any suitable vessel. I now use one of those portable "travel mugs" with a lid and handle, for taking warm drinks out of the house. It is easier to keep the oils in the right place on the surface of the water.
In a large bowl they can drift around on the surface and you can miss the right area.
You just need to boil clean water (I use filtered, avoid chlorinated water for this), put into the cup, drop 2, 3 or 4 drops of peppermint oil onto the surface and inhale deeply.
Again hold it in. It can be painful, as the menthol forces the mucus up quickly from the lungs. At first it is impossible to inhale into the sinuses-too painful.
I begin with deep mouth inhalation, and soon the sinuses begin to clear. Then I inhale into sinuses. I do 2 rounds of peppermint oil.
The 1st round clears the passages, the 2nd gets deeper access into the lungs.,and takes the clearing to another level.
I then fiinsh off with 3 drops of eucalyptus radiata, which is never painful, and works in a complimentary way to "clean up". Rosemary is also good at this stage.
However, I ALWAYS begin with peppermint oil first. If I start with the other oils first, the result is not the same and the relief is much less.
The relief is ENORMOUS! It is like a vaccum cleaner for the lungs. I would not be alive today without this ingenious method for dealing with abnormally severe chronic respiratory mucus.
My symptoms are incredibly severe due to severe allergies and having had AT LEAST 2 infections in both of my lungs every single since I got Lyme Disease in 2005.
At times, 6 separate infections in both lungs. It is real murder, and I have to be so mentally strong to cope.
If I dont manage my symptoms very thoroughly every single day, I will choke on mucus and this would be fatal in no time, it's that serious.
I also have another method where I vaporize the essential oils using degummed hemp fiber in my Herborizer XL.
This is highly effective, but it takes a specific setup to work. A low temp, which will vary from vape to vape.
The trickiest bit is actually forming the bed of hemp fiber just right. It needs to be dense and compact enough to hold the essential oils for long enough without them dripping through too soon.
But not too compact to restrict air and vapor flow. And you need to get the exact right temp. Much lower than normal vaping temps. Just a smidge pver 150°C on my Herborizer, but vape design, bowl size, shape, distance will all be factors. So best to start low and build up. It is easy to burn the oils, resulting in irritation.
Here is a photo of the bowl setup with hemp fiber:
And a link to post about it recently:

It can be tricky getting the hemp fiber just right. I am having more success sqaushing it down slightly in the bowl, but first I cut the strands into short, half cm lengths, stretch them all apart, then gently bundle them all into a loose ball, and drop into the bowl and press down and make sure there is enough depth in the center to keep the oils from falling through.
The hemp fiber will not work for more than 2 uses before it is gummed up and a bit "sticky" from the oils.
I can get 2 good routines out of it (3 rounds of oils each time), but after the first use, it is necesary to pull apart the individual fibers and form another ball in the same way.
After 2 uses, it is best to make a new gauze.
There are many other supplements that are excellent for treating mucus, but I react adversely to almost everything, when these substances are no problem and extremely helpful to others.
However, one remedy I STRONGLY RECOMMEMD for mucus, is organic CAYENNE PEPPER.
It is amazing at relieving respiratory mucus. I take a "shot" of cayenne in the morning, prior to the essential oil routine- half to 1 teaspoon in a shot glass of water. It massively improves the effectiveness of the essential oils. I also add cayenne to all of my meals. Cinnamom and turmeric are also very beneficial.
And all 3 of these spices have enormous medicinal benefits. Look into them health maintenance is an interest. And organic spices are 100 times superior to non organic, aroma, flavor wise and most of all medicinally. We get all our spices online now from a UK company. They are very affordable. We use a lot, so I get 250 gr to kilo bags at a time.

I really hope some of this can help somebody.
