Best vaporizer for around $150

Hi guys. My buddies and I (there are four of us) have decided enough is enough with smoking and want to go with vaporization. I will spell out plain and simple what we are looking for, and if you guys have any suggestions that would be great!

  • Cost effective (Our budget is around $150. We're poor college kids) We can stretch about $20 above if it's an exceptional deal, but preferably not.
  • Has a decent company reputation (I've heard good things about vaporBros)
  • Can handle up to 4 users.
  • We are all partial to the whip style over a bag (On that note, is hands-free worth the money?)
  • Will provide a good (hopefully lifetime) warranty
  • Doesn't contain a lot of plastic (for durability's sake, we prefer wood. And we're all a little iffy about breathing from a hunk of plastic).
VaporBrothers is having a great sale right now here: http://bit.ly/cr7q4A. We all like the look of this one and it comes with a life time warranty. Also, the sale ends in less than a week so we're really considering this one (however, the hands free model looks appealing as well).
Thanks!

I am not knocking the Vapor Brothers vape, but when I was in your position I was deciding between the Vapor Brothers, the Extreme Q, and the DBV. I purchased the DBV and could not be happier with my purchase; it is simple, nearly indestructible (except the glass), clean air path, and has a “better” wand insertion angle compared to the Vapor brothers. I was not interested in doing bags; therefore, the Extreme Q was the first of the three vaporizers that I discounted. With that said, I am sure you would be satisfied with any one of these vaporizers.

Note: the Extreme Q is probably a bit better for group situations.

it comes with a life time warranty.
Vapor Bros has their own, unique version of a lifetime warranty. After 2 years (got to send in the registration to get that 2nd year too) you have to pay for repair. Not really a warranty at that point.

Da Buddha (DBV) has a better vaping angle for the whip, and a much sturdier housing. You can get one close to $150 with FC discount and you get a 3 year warranty- a year longer than the VB, with the option of a 10 yr. or real lifetime warranty.

DaBuddha and the VaporBros look like two good options. Does anyone who's had experience using one or the other have any personal testimonial (or pros/cons) of each product? From mwhale's and max's posts, the buddha is starting to look like a better option.

While I don't have experience with DBV or a VB, i've had experience with a box style vaporizer with the same 45 degree angle as the VB. What a pain in the ass! With regular herb I had to pack it down so I wouldn't combust from herb falling onto the heater's screen. And if you want to vape hash, it's impossible without combusting the small grains that fall onto the heating element. Also, the "discount" on that VB is bullshit. It's always been $154, and always will be. Just slapped on there saying that you "save" $45. The DBV also comes with alot of cool accessories for beginners too, like a carrying bag/stir tool/extra screens/etc. I'd go with the DBV for sure.

Edit: Don't get me wrong though, the VB is a good vape, i'm sure, bud DBV has its obvious advantages.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I'm gonna talk it over, but DBV is looking like what we're gonna get. Now, I have one more question. Where is the best place to buy it? Are there some reputable online retailers where the FC discount is available? I looked at the list Max linked to, but I've never had experience buying a vape online.

Honestly, I think the Extreme Q is the best value desktop. It's just so versatile and seems to do everything pretty decently. DBV might be of simpler and more robust construction, but I wouldn't think the EQ would be anything but top notch after owning the Arizer Solo for a few weeks.

Just the opinion of a previous DBV owner (which was an awesome unit, but isn't 100% user friendly by any means).

For 4 people that rotate usage, the DBV is really easy to learn, but it seems whenever new users try it out there's chances that they knock herb into the heater.

Total tangent, but I've found:

New users tend to want to get as big a hit as possible (which is annoying during casual sessions, everybody is getting high, just calm down!), which general leads them to hitting it awkwardly.

While they don't realize draw speed matters, some people hit it as hard as they can and get very little vapor. This makes me giggle a little, something with instant karma I suppose. The next hit, or if you explain to them how it works, is usually worse. They draw too slowly, because again they try and take as big as a hit as possible. They scorch the bowl :S.

Just go through through the list of retailers that max listed and buy from one that carries the DBV, is located closest to your state (assuming you live in America), and offers you the best price after shipping fees and the discount.

Any of the retailers max linked are good. Puff It Up and Vape World are two that I've done business with multiple times and always had excellent service from. ;)

it seems like you might like a log vaporizer. i have an Underdog and absolutely love it. they're conservative on material while still being able to medicate quickly. i'm sure there are a few on the site within your price range. it also has no learning curve which makes it great for groups. i see that you also make it a point that you prefer something made of wood which again Underdogs, log vapes, are known for. The maker of UD is Dave who is a real nice guy and is known for his great customer service. if there's ever a problem with your UD, he'll just tell you to send it back to him for a 'vet visit' to help fix any issues. here's a quick little video i threw together not too long ago of my Bamboo UD.

Versatile yes. Does everything "pretty decently" yes. Does it provide whip hits (OP rules out bag fill as a preference) as rich as the DBV? No. You get very close using the elbow packing method, but that's not the intended design, and makes for some aggravating cleaning. I gave this design a good try, using the cyclone bowl, and it was the most unsatisfactory whip experience I've had. Lots of hot air hitting my throat, making a bottle of water a necessary accessory. You could go for heavy loading of the bowl to help minimize the low vapor/air ratio, but that didn't suit me. For whip use, the DBV is generally considered the best bang for your buck when used as designed.
